The immersive frontier

A TRIP TO MOST ATTRACTIONS

today will confirm that the trend towards immersive and interactive experiences is now in full flow. Experiential AV solutions have arrived. Some 20 years ago, we marvelled at how Sennheiser Guideport receivers had transformed the trip to the Asian Civilisations Museum. Since then, soul searching designers and ongoing user feedback have propelled the technologies employed in these experiences to new heights.

In Bangkok, multi-sensory immersive experiences are also rapidly gaining in popularity. This became apparent when Iconsiam Mall became the first Asian venue to host the immersive, highly popular Da Vinci exhibition. It proved so successful that it was

quickly followed with another multisensory experience, a collection of over 3,500 masterpieces in an exhibit titled “Monet & Friends Alive” which was brought to life through massive screens and more than 50 projectors. Now emboldened by the AI and cloud-based worlds, AV technology has developed at a quantum leap in the half decade that has followed. Audiovisual solutions are also revolutionising the hospitality industry, by transforming the way guests experience entertainment and by enhancing their overall stay. By adopting high-definition displays, large videowalls and ambient lighting, captivated guests entering hotel lobby areas are set with a visually striking and distinctive tone for the stay. By

reshaping the hospitality industry, AV is creating immersive and personalised guest experiences. From interactive inroom entertainment to advanced event spaces and virtual concierge services, hotels are applying AV technology to enhance guest satisfaction, differentiate themselves and provide memorable stays. As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, AV solutions will play a central role in creating unique and captivating guest experiences. Off-the-shelf solutions may be in short supply, but an enquiring mind will guide the successful AV designer forward in the creation of a bespoke experience for their client. That journey starts here at the QSNCC in Bangkok today.

BUSINESS: SUSTAINABILITY

All things considered

PPDS

discusses the manufacturer’s eco credentials and forward-thinking approach to digital signage sustainability

RESEARCH SHOWS THAT there is typically a negative correlation between the importance of sustainability and the average premium consumers are willing to pay. In categories that have the highest importance for sustainability in a consumer’s daily life – electricity, heating, groceries and transportation – this is roughly between 22% and 27%. But with potential alarm bells sounding over the health of the global economy at a time when sustainability in AV had just become a serious topic, is all that good work about to be undone? PPDS (Philips Professional Displays) doesn’t think so.

Sustainability has been on the agenda for PPDS for many years and, at the end of 2021, the display manufacturer placed it as a top business priority, actively seeking to help customers reduce their electronic waste and enhance their green credentials. This initiative includes more energyefficient products, a reconfiguring and reduction of packaging, and a move to provide greater access to information on energy consumption to aid more informed buying decisions. It’s resulted in PPDS being lauded with several sustainability awards as the company strives to bring the topic to the forefront of the industry.

“We certainly are doing a lot,” says Stefan van Sabben, global CSR and sustainability manager at TP Vision and MMD, the parent companies behind PPDS. “And I’m very pleased to see it being recognised. It certainly is a topic that has taken on increased interest with customers in recent years – in fact, we’ve reached a point where

customers are actively demanding that manufacturers are more environmentally mindful.”

As van Sabben alludes to earlier, while PPDS has long had an interest in being more sustainable, the postpandemic mindset from customers has elevated this conversation, making it all the more important for companies to back up their principles with more than just words. Product certification is vital but that does little to explain nuance and allow customers to make truly informed decisions.

“We certainly want to avoid greenwashing and so we think it’s important to explain in detail precisely what we are doing instead of simply applying X credential to a product. As an example, our 7000 Series LED display is near climate neutral. What does that actually entail? We begin with a lifecycle assessment to gauge how many CO2 emissions are involved to create the product, with all the assembly lines taken into account. Then we create a reduction plan together with an external party as a verified auditor. From that moment onwards, you can offset by, for example, planting trees or supporting forest growth.

worse than customers feeling a need to scrap existing working displays that are still serving their purpose but don’t match new sustainability expectations.”

“Lifecycle assessments are so key for us in being able to really evaluate our products,” adds global head of communications Vicky Fox, “and, as Stefan says, they’re a massive undertaking because they take in every aspect, right through their journey. Of course, it’s also important that our roadmap carefully considers the ongoing sustainability picture for each product. In that respect the lifecycle assessment is just a part of the story, and there could be nothing

This means that often the best approach for the customer is not to invest in new products, instead extending existing displays’ lifespans. “Beyond our own motivation, we have new legislation being introduced supporting eco design, the right to repair, etc., that is not directly linked to a hotel TV or signage display, yet in the bigger picture is relevant,” notes van Sabben. “So, as well supporting the extension of our products’ lifetimes, we also discuss options such as take-back schemes with clients. We take back the product (offering the customer a financial reward as well) and give it a second life in another country or

market where it can still serve a purpose.”

Arguably, that first-mover advantage period has already passed in many AV sectors and PPDS is no longer alone as an enterprise manufacturer focusing on its green credentials. The question for manufacturers therefore becomes, can your business afford to no longer take the topic seriously?

“Keeping ourselves at the forefront of this conversation is crucial and is why we take such a proactive approach,” concludes van Sabben. “We showcased Tableaux to our customers back in November last year but didn’t actually release it until February. Having that really great feedback relationship with our integrators makes sure we are manufacturing products that are needed, rather than just ticking a box.”

Driving collaboration

Singapore Management University has invested in Shure’s Microflex Ecosystem solution to enhance the learning experience for its students and instructors

SINGAPORE MANAGEMENT

University (SMU) is a leading academic institution in Singapore, renowned for its world-class research and innovative teaching methods. SMU is committed to providing its students with a holistic and dynamic learning experience that prepares them for the challenges of the future. With a focus on developing future-ready leaders, SMU is constantly seeking ways to improve its teaching and learning experience. To achieve this, SMU has invested in state-ofthe-art facilities and technologies, including audio equipment from Shure.

Educational institutions are constantly adapting to the changes in the learning and collaborative landscape, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. To provide the best learning and teaching experience, keeping up to date with the latest technology trends is crucial. With the rise of hybrid learning models, SMU was looking to equip its large seminar rooms with high-performing audio solutions that could enhance the learning experience of its students and academic instructors, regardless of whether they were attending in-person or remotely. To meet these unique audio needs, AV systems integrator Spectrum Audio Visual recommended a comprehensive

upgrade that included the installation of a Shure Microflex Ecosystem solution consisting of the IntelliMix P300 audio conferencing processor, Microflex MXN5W-C ceiling speakers and the MXA920 ceiling array microphone. The solutions have been designed

to provide the highest-quality audio in the most complete and demanding spaces.

The Shure MXA920 ceiling array microphone is capable of achieving voice lift applications that amplify the voice of the instructors and students, ensuring that they

can be heard clearly across the entire room, echo-free, while in a hybrid learning environment. The microphone’s Steerable Coverage technology allows it to capture audio from any direction, providing flexibility in installation and ensuring optimal audio pickup.

A Shure Microflex Ecosystem solution has been installed in two seminar rooms at SMU

conferencing processor paired well with the MXA920 to achieve the voice lift system.

Finally, the Microflex MXN5W-C networked ceiling loudspeakers were installed in each room, based on the room size for highquality sound reproduction. They are designed to deliver clear and natural sound, ensuring that students can hear the instructor’s voice.

“We are pleased to have concluded a successful integration with the support of Shure’s expertise. Despite facing several challenges such as structural issues, the Shure MXA920 ceiling array microphones together with the IntelliMix room audio processing software have allowed us to calibrate accurately and brought crystal-clear audio to the rooms,”

Shure’s audio solution allowed SMU to upgrade its seminar rooms, futureproof its audio equipment and provide its students with an exceptional learning experience.

The technology delivered clear audio for all participants in the room, eliminating the need for handheld microphones and providing seamless audio coverage for conferencing and hybrid learning.

“The MXA920s have been very helpful for our hybrid classes given its flexibility in configuration,” adds Gerard Chua, manager, integrated information technology services, SMU. “Its ‘Automatic Coverage’ mode is sufficient for our classrooms.”

The Shure next-generation MXA920 ceiling array microphone offered exceptional voice lift and sound reinforcement. Voice lift is the ability

of a microphone to amplify the voice of the speaker, making it sound louder and clearer, even in a large room. This feature is especially important in a university learning application setting, where an instructor needs to be heard by a large audience.

The MXA920 ceiling microphone’s exceptional voice lift ensures that the instructor’s voice is amplified uniformly

seated within the room. The Shure solution’s ceiling speakers provide exceptional sound reinforcement, ensuring that all participants can hear the speaker clearly. This feature is essential for a successful learning experience, as it ensures that all participants can engage with the lecture and any audio material presented.

Additionally, the ceiling microphones have eliminated the need for academic instructors to carry handheld microphones, allowing them to move around the room freely and engage with students more effectively.

The Shure Microflex Ecosystem

all participants can hear the instructor and any audio material clearly, no matter where they are

What trends are currently shaping the pro AV industry?

Two of the trends we are seeing are the smart workplace and hybrid working – making sure employees have the right tools to do their job, no matter where or when they need them. Smart workplaces need to enhance productivity and communications among the employees, whether they are in the office or working remotely. These tools include things like video conferencing, AI capabilities, digital whiteboarding or occupancy sensors that help monitor the meeting rooms. These tools are going to enable seamless communication and project collaboration, regardless of the location.

How is Neat addressing these trends?

Since the company started in 2019, we have designed our products to be all-in-one video devices but our main goal has been to create products that are easy to use and provide meeting equity to the customer. All of our products include advanced collaboration tools for a smart workplace. Before we develop and design our products, we try and think about the challenges our customers are facing. The primary challenge with any smart workplace is miscommunication where you can’t see and hear each other. Neat’s products include advanced AI capabilities so that remote participants can see and hear people in the meeting room, regardless of whether they’re standing, moving around or seated. This includes our patented technology called Neat Symmmetry where we use this AI to auto-frame and zoom into each speaker and make sure they are being seen all the time, even when they’re moving around. Now you can been seen all the time, can you be heard? The AI needs to be able to filter out background noises and any echoes in the room. This allows people to stay connected and focused throughout the meeting. Our remote monitoring tool helps the IT team manage all the devices from anywhere in the world – all they need is an internet connection. Everything is automated now so that IT personnel no longer need to be in the room managing the meeting.

What is Neat showcasing at InfoComm Asia this year?

Firstly, the Neat Center is our companion product to our main device and allows remote participants to see and hear people in the meeting room at all times. It gives them a 360° visual meeting experience if colleagues in the room are talking among themselves or they’re facing away from the main Neat device. Secondly, the Neat Bar Generation 2 which can be used with the Neat Center – it’s a redesign of our first-generation products but now provides exceptional video quality thanks to its 50 megapixel camera. Another new feature is that it can support BYOD with a single USB-C cable. We’re also going to be showcasing the Neat app hub which forms part of our Neat Pulse. This allows customers to select, deploy and manage different types of applications on all Neat products.

Why have you decided to return to InfoComm Asia?

We have been focusing on the commercial audio aspect of the company and we want to show our commitment to the region and to the markets that we are serving. It’s important that we’re able to present all our solutions to our customers.

What will you be focusing on at the show?

Audio-Technica has a wide range of products but our focus differs across Southeast Asia. Outside of Singapore, we place a lot of emphasis on our conference systems but, in Singapore, it’s more centred on boardroom or huddle room solutions. But since Covid, the situation has changed and hybrid is starting to settle in, and I think this is where everyone is focusing at the moment. Audio-Technica has such an extensive range of products that we can provide a solution for any application.

What sets your technology apart from others in the market?

I think every brand has its own core technology but Audio-Technica is an analogue company and we want to provide the best audio quality possible for our customers. Everyone is moving towards Dante and AV/IT solutions but what’s unique about Audio-Technica is that we want to create our own systems, such as our A-T Link communication protocol. Along with Dante, A-T Link gives systems integrators and consultants the flexibility to choose the best solution for each installation. Dante allows you to integrate with other brands, but if you want a simple, easy-to-use solution, then AT-Link is the way to go. We’ll also be launching our System 20 PRO which is a major upgrade from our current System 10 PRO which has been on the market for almost 10 years and increases the simultaneous channel count from 10 to 20.

What the most pressing challenges currently facing the market?

Everyone is facing the same issues – everyone is talking about how we can use AI and incorporate all this new technology into our day-to-day lives. However, the biggest challenge we’re facing is educating our customers so they can choose the best products for their setting rather than simply following the latest trends.

What’s so special about Bangkok?

For me, it’s definitely the food, but also the Thai people are so welcoming and the culture is similar to Singapore – it’s a very easy place to visit.

Front and centre

NEAT HAS released its Neat Center companion device that lets remote meeting attendees follow the conversation more closely by clearly hearing and seeing everyone in the room, even when those in the room are far away from the main device or facing inwards, discussing something among themselves. The solution has been designed to be simple to set up, giving users flexible placement options and improving the capabilities of other Neat devices for enhanced content and engagement.

Housing a 360° 3x lens camera, 16 omnidirectional mic arrays, plus advanced AI that dynamically analyses the room and people within it, Neat Center enables remote attendees to enjoy greater equity

and inclusion during hybrid meetings. Bringing them to the front and centre of the conversation, Neat Center enables remote participants to gain a closer and clearer audiovisual perspective when people face away from them on video.

Like all Neat devices, Neat Center is described as easy to set up and install, with just a single cable for network and power. Thanks to its flexible, self-calibrating design, users can also position it anywhere in the space and be assured that everyone stays seen and heard. It can be placed on or hung above the meeting room table, or mounted on the wall and “will make hybrid meetings on Zoom or Microsoft Teams feel much more rewarding and productive”.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q&

What trends are currently shaping the pro AV industry?

The first trend is the emergence of micro LEDs. The technology is developing faster than ever – if you look back 30 years ago, the market was mostly filled with LCDs and projectors but, now, LEDs are becoming more popular, the costs are coming down and new advancements in micro LED technology are being developed with a vast improvement in the performance of the display, increased stability and a higher accuracy rate. The second trend is extended reality (XR) combined with the developments in display technology.

How is Planar addressing these trends?

Planar opened a micro LED factory in 2016 and released its first micro LED product in 2019. The factory is still growing and expanding. We are also developing XR technology in the cinema and broadcast industries. Last year, Planar began mass production of a quantum dot micro LED chip with the aim of speeding up the commercialisation of micro LED display technology.

What is Planar highlighting on its booth this year?

We will be showcasing a 136-inch all-in-one LED solution which comes with an integrated speaker, microphone and touchscreen. We’ll also be bringing our command centre solution with micro LED. In the APAC region, most of our customers come from the military and security sectors so we want to highlight the benefits of our control room system.

What are the key trends that are currently shaping the pro AV industry?

Our research has shown that around 80% of people now have the choice as to where they’d like to work but interestingly, nine out of 10 people are still going back to the office on a weekly basis. This means that meetings today are not going to be fully in-person but they’re not going to 100% remote either – around seven out of 10 meetings are now online. So this shows that people are wanting to come back into the office for personal engagement and the increase in productivity when people talk face-to-face. So the challenge is –how can a company provide a meeting solution that equips the employees and the meeting spaces with an experience that is as close to personal face-to-face interaction as possible? It’s about providing the same experience for everyone – if people are working at home, they feel they are missing the personal connection with their colleagues. It’s not about productivity any more – personal interaction is just as important. It’s a hard challenge but also a great opportunity for the technology to solve the puzzle.

How is Jabra adapting to these changes?

Our focus is bringing innovation to help the modern workforce excel in this new hybrid way of working. Our PanaCast 50 provides a unique 180° field of view but it also brings the AI-enabled intelligent experience to help virtual participants engage with what’s happening in the meeting room. With continuous firmware updates, we can keep rolling out new intelligent experiences to our customers.

What can visitors expect on your booth this year?

Last year, we focused on our PanaCast 50 series and in particular the intelligent experience like dynamic composition and intelligent zoom. What has changed this year are all the firmware updates we have released and we will be showing customers how all these developments can help solve the challenges of our new ways of working. The device evolves as our ways of working evolve. And PanaCast 50 is not just one device – there’s a whole family of products so if you’re looking for a BYOD solution for the meeting room or a room-based system for Android or Windows, there something for you in the PanaCast 50 range.

One of the firmware updates we’ll be highlighting is PanaCast 50’s intelligent meeting space. With challenges such as glass walls in meeting spaces, we will show how to solve those problem by enabling the intelligent meeting space. We will also be focusing on the front of room device for intelligent speakers to show how to create an accurate meeting transcription and how the voice quality can increase the accuracy of the inputs. We’re also excited to bring our Jabra+ software platform to the show, which allows users to manage Jabra meeting room devices remotely and add scale.

What do you like about Bangkok?

It’s dynamic, diverse – it’s a city that never sleeps and you can meet people from all over the world. When you work for a global company, it’s about bringing people together – and that comes alive in Bangkok.

Redefining the workspace

Zach Snook, director of product management at Biamp, looks at how the practice of hoteling can be used to increase productivity and staff satisfaction in the face of shrinking office space

HYBRID WORKING, WHERE employees split their time between the traditional office environment and elsewhere, exploded in popularity during the pandemic. However, unlike other aspects of daily life that have gone back to normal, a return to the office hasn’t materialised, with the hybrid working trend apparently here to stay for the foreseeable future. In late 2023, desk booking platform Robin Powered surveyed 530 business owners and facilities managers across the US about how their office space is currently being used and what the future of the physical office will look like. The survey found that 75% of businesses said they planned to reduce office space this year, compared to 46% in 2022.

As employers continue to coalesce around hybrid work scenarios, shrinking office footprints accordingly, employees increasingly do not have their own dedicated deskspaces. Should all or even a majority of employees show up to the office on any given day, proceedings can quickly transform into an elaborate game of musical chairs. To better manage the reduction in office space, AV and IT leaders from family businesses to enterprise-level corporations need to think not just about how they accommodate a distributed workforce within a hybrid work environment, but also how best to leverage the scaled-down office without hurting productivity and employee satisfaction. In response, organisations are increasingly adopting hoteling strategies, meaning that instead of having dedicated workstations, employees reserve desks

or meeting rooms as needed. This approach provides maximum flexibility as employees can choose the most suitable workspace based on their specific tasks and requirements from day to day, or even hour to hour.

Hoteling is particularly beneficial for organisations with a significant portion of the workforce operating remotely. As a general rule of thumb for maintaining just enough office space for hybrid work scenarios without sacrificing productivity, a desk-to-employee ratio of 0.7 means that for 10 employees there should be seven desks. Of course, if everyone shows up at the office on any given day, not enough desks will be available. Giving employees the ability to easily reserve shared in-office resources such as a workstation in a hoteling environment ensures that the team does not find itself spread out or – worse – without workspaces at all.

Organisations can also utilise hoteling to address issues like equitable access to workplace technology, effective

communication in hybrid settings and maintaining company culture within a distributed workforce. Other benefits include reducing the carbon emissions of the organisation by making the office space as efficient as possible while reducing the need for employees to commute, especially if they know the office will be full that day or that a primary colleague or supervisor won’t be present. Scheduling systems can be incorporated into the existing IT framework and hardware, ideally within the conferencing solutions built on preexisting unified communication platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.   Creating an effective hoteling strategy starts with making scheduling and managing office space as simple as possible for employees, whether they are in the physical office or not. The company-wide scheduling platform should include a mobile app allowing employees to find and book a desk or conference room before going into

the office. Ensuring the app includes floorplans provides users with an overview of available desks on each floor to find and book a space that fits their needs. The app could also be used to view ongoing and upcoming bookings days in advance, enabling an employee to book the space and check in. The system should also assist users in finding their colleagues based on current bookings, enhancing collaboration and teamwork opportunities.

In-office displays showcasing the desk or room schedule and its current status should be provided for each workspace or conference room. Providing an option for an employee to book the space in real time as they review the schedule further enhances productivity. A traffic light system whereby devices might light up red to signal that the particular space is currently reserved, amber to show that the desk is reserved for later in the day or green to indicate the space is open and available to book could be particularly useful. The key is ensuring that such a hoteling hardwaresoftware system is cloud-enabled and integrates within the existing office software collaboration tools and AV hardware.

Those organisations that can master scheduling within effective conferencing AV ecosystems, including unified communication tools, will generate the most employee satisfaction in hybrid work environments well into the future, taking the stress out of a visit to the office and ensuring a productive working environment.

An effective hoteling strategy can make scheduling and managing office space easier

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q&

What’s currently shaping the future of the pro AV industry?

First, although Covid is largely behind us, the hybrid workplace is something that’s not going to fade away and companies are still facing difficulties getting people back into the office. Second, on the projection side, businesses are looking at how to make their workspaces more inclusive and create a more AVoriented environment to promote their products and serve their customers. And third, in the control room market, customers are wanting to remotely dial into the control room so they can access the workflow and monitor critical operations remotely.

What are Barco’s solutions to these issues?

First is the market-leading Barco ClickShare wireless meeting room solution and, specifically, the ClickShare video bars launched this year that are carbon neutral, easy to maintain, easy to install and budget-friendly. We are looking at providing a more inclusive end-to-end ecosystem and the video bars have been designed to provide a better audio experience for both in-person and hybrid meetings. Second, we are developing our projectors towards 4K and native 4K and offering various brightness levels from 20,000 lumens to above 40,000 lumens depending on the application. In the control room, we are launching Barco UniSee 2.0 along with the Barco Truepix LED videowall and new Barco Control software that can support multiple imports and multiple sources.

This year will be Barco’s biggest year for new product introductions and we’ll be bringing as many as we can to InfoComm, including the i600 projector, Encore3 Event Master, our QDX projectors, ClickShare CX50 gen 2 products and UniSee 2.0 and Barco Control. Despite being 90 years young, we are still going strong and we’re excited to show all our new products at InfoComm Asia.

What are the key trends that are currently shaping the pro AV market?

After Covid, every organisation was scrambling to come up with a way of supporting hybrid meetings and collaborations. Now, most companies have solutions that can do that but the trend now is to focus more on the quality of the meetings. In terms of productivity, we’re talking about how fast and how easy it is to start the meeting without every member of the company’s IT team having to help. And in terms of the meeting experience, the buzzword right now is meeting equity. When there are lots of people in a boardroom, everybody appears the size of a thumbnail, so how do you have engagement with this type of experience? We are having these discussions with our customers on a daily basis. No surprises that the other trend we’re seeing right now is AI. Every organisation is thinking about how they can incorporate AI into their business practices. And Crestron is no different – we are trying to incorporate AI into our technologies going

What key products are Crestron developing to meet these trends?

In terms of productivity, automation is in Crestron’s DNA – we’ve been working for a long time to help customers start their meetings within a few seconds rather than a few minutes. We coined the term “a 10 second room” in Asia – that means that from the moment you step into the meeting room, it takes less than 10 seconds to start the hybrid meeting – this is our commitment to our customers. For meeting equity, the common setup today is a front camera system, but the problem with this is that it is unable to select the best angle. The nature of today’s meetings is collaborating – we’re not just talking to remote participants but also to colleagues in the room, and the camera is not always picking up the face of the person speaking. When remote participants experience this, they lose engagement. The Crestron 1 Beyond multi-camera system has been designed to solve these problems. With multiple cameras placed at strategic locations around the room, 1 Beyond will automatically pick the best camera for each speaker and the remote participant will always see the front of the person who is talking. By placing a camera on top of every display in the room, we are increasing the engagement between the remote and in-room participants.

What solutions will you showcasing at InfoComm Asia this year?

Visitors to our booth will be treated to a full suite of our workspace solutions, such as room booking panels, wireless presenters, intelligent speakers, UC solutions and of course our AV-over-IP and VX products. In particular, we will be holding live demonstrations of our 1 Beyond multi-camera system setup. The other product we’ll be highlighting is our Videobar system. While other videobar products on the market are designed for small and huddle spaces, our solution has been created for larger rooms and is for customers who don’t want an elaborate setup.

DANACOID Global Intelligent Manufacturing Center is a super factory integrating software development, hardware production, supply chain, sales and exhibition hall. It has a world-class audio and video experience hall of over 3,500 square meters, including a command center, city cockpit, various conference rooms, lecture halls, VIP reception areas, network presentation rooms and other scenes, bringing you a zero-distance experience and a world within reach!

The park covers an area of more than 110 acres and has a construction area of 66,000 square meters. The factory has established several of the world's most advanced automated production lines, including COB fully automated production lines, CNC+ hardware production lines, the world's advanced LED+SMT automated production lines, LCD automated production lines, audio DSP automated production lines, conference series products, etc., truly realizing full-category products, intelligent production lines, high-quality assurance, and full-stack self-research.

We are proud to launch a new series of COB engineering screens and COB all-in-one products, which not only have excellent dust and water resistance, but also reach industry-leading levels in display effects and functionality.

The COB engineering screen series includes two highly anticipated products: COB Black Crystal Series and COB Ordinary Screen Series. With its unique pixel pitch design (0.84/1.26), the COB Black Crystal Series supports free assembly of multiple ratios such as 4:9, 8:9, 16:9, and can easily create display screens of any size such as 18:9 and 20:9. Its ultra-thin body is only 34.5mm, light yet strong, and the packaging method adopts advanced COB common cathode flip-chip technology to ensure delicate and long-lasting picture quality.

The COB ordinary screen series meets the needs of most application scenarios with its pixel pitch (0.93/1.25/1.56) and 16:9 standard display ratio design. It supports point-to-point display to ensure clear and distortion-free images. COB packaging technology makes the screen more stable and reliable, suitable for long-term operation.

In the all-in-one series, we launched COB Black Crystal All-in-One (110-inch/130-inch/146-inch) and COB Blue Crystal All-in-One (108-inch/135-inch/162-inch). Both products have an ultra-light and ultra-thin cabinet design, which is not only easy to install and move, but also brings the ultimate visual enjoyment. They support the wireless screen transmission function of PC, mobile phones, tablets and other devices, making content sharing simpler and more efficient. At the same time, they support up to 8 devices online at the same time, and can realize four-screen display to meet diverse display needs.

COB all-in-one machine supports small screen control of large screen, and can be easily controlled by mobile phone and tablet. The front panel or remote control can adjust the color temperature, brightness and volume, which is convenient to operate. The whiteboard writing function is diverse, including single-point and multi-point writing, picture insertion, etc. Scan code sharing and annotation functions, and the interactive experience is upgraded.

Get broadcast quality H.264, ProRes and DNx files recorded to SD cards or SSD media!

HyperDeck Studio lets you record broadcast quality video files directly onto SD cards and SSD media! The new redesigned HyperDeck Studios feature modern design with more codecs and quieter cooling. All models now support recording to H.264, Apple ProRes or DNxHD files with either PCM or AAC audio. For ISO recording, there’s even built in timecode and reference generators for syncing multiple units!

Elegantly Designed Professional Broadcast Deck

The new HyperDeck Studio models have been totally redesigned with dozens of new features! The Pro models feature a machined metal search dial with increased mass and a soft rubber surface that feels nice to the touch. Plus the search dial features an active clutch, just like a traditional broadcast deck! With dual media slots, you can change cards without interrupting recording!

Record to External USB-C Media Disks

If recording to other types of media is required, the USB-C expansion port lets you plug in an external flash disk for recording. USB-C flash disks have unlimited capacity because they can be physically larger than an SD card or SSD. Just move the disk over to a computer and instantly start editing! There are also menus for managing external disks on the built in LCD.

Popular ProRes, DNx, H.264 and H.265

Files!

HyperDeck supports the most popular codecs in use today! All models include DNx and ProRes file formats. However all models also include H.264 in quality up to 10 bit 4:2:2 when recording in NTSC, PAL, 720p, 1080p and true 1080i interlaced formats. While the 4K model adds H.265 when recording in Ultra HD. The Plus and Pro models have ProRes 4444 for fill and key playback!

Advanced Broadcast Connections!

Depending on the model HyperDeck Studio features a wide range of video and audio connections such as 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI or 12G-SDI. All models include HDMI for connecting to televisions and projectors. There’s even a dedicated SDI monitoring output on the Pro and Plus models with on screen status. The 4K model has 10G Ethernet for extremely fast network file copying!

Just what the doctor ordered

UT Consulting’s Daniel Knoche discusses the rising trends of AV within the healthcare sector, as well as challenges and considerations that consultants encounter during a project

STARTING OUT IN 2003 AS A team of three in busy Melbourne, UT Consulting had to set itself apart from other AV consultancies. It did this by providing specialist services for the then less-trodden courtroom and education environments, then extending to health, commercial, hospitality and government spaces.

Now, UT Consulting’s team of 15 is spread between Melbourne and Perth and is currently focusing on projects mainly within the healthcare sector.

Daniel Knoche, senior consultant at UT Consulting, says that a lot of healthcare facilities are looking to the future when requesting an AV system: “From a technology infrastructure perspective, we have seen futureproofing and options for expansion become more common during the design and development process. A common approach for a hospital project used to be to design and build for the site’s immediate requirements; however, today, we are involved in discussions on designs

that allow for additional wards or departments in the future.”

Knoche also notes that, globally, there is a lack of availability of clinicians, which means that hospitals are feeling the pressure to be an appealing environment for much-needed doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. “This macro issue has an impact on the facility design, where the focus is on creating environments that can incentivise talent acquisition and the retention of clinical staff.”

With healthcare facilities hardly ever underused, it’s a reasonable ask that the technology can keep up with demand and that the facilities receive reliable support, should it fall short. “The impact of downtime for an operating theatre can be catastrophic, especially if theatre space is limited. Therefore, a key emerging trend is ensuring redundancy in the system design, as well as sourcing appropriate support agreements. These agreements are

tailored to the facility to maximise uptime, with agreed strategies in place to address onsite support and the replacement of faulty equipment.”

Virtual Health Environments (VHEs) are another growing trend within healthcare technology, which see remote monitoring of wards, allowing two-way visual and audio communication to the bedside. Access and Flow rooms are also a popular request, according to Knoche. These systems enable staff to manage the needs of the hospital on a day-to-day basis via a single control room. “The information comes from various sources such as electronic medical records, theatre scheduling and patient administration systems.
