Welcome Established in 1967 as Arnold Sales and Engineering Limited, the company was formed primarily to assemble braided PTFE and metallic hoses. Two years later an opportunity arose to distribute plastic sheet, rod and tube for a mainland European manufacturer. Within three years the company was operating from leasehold 10,000 square feet premises having outgrown the space provided at a terraced house in Northampton’s town centre. In 1981 continued growth had made a further move necessary, this time to leasehold space at Round Spinney Industrial Estate. The extra space provided here persuaded the company to offer Plastic Fabrication and Machining services and thereafter the design and manufacture of the UK’s first transparent riot shields, and then onwards to a whole host of Plastic Products. In 1996 the company made its most significant investment to date, a freehold purchase of purpose built premises in Moulton Park, Northampton. Now with six manufacturing divisions including Fabrication-Machining, Vacuum Forming, POS, Acrylic Furniture, Personal Protective Equipment products and Signs and Graphics, the company’s prosperity has been consolidated with investment in the very latest computer aided design software and machine tool technology and of course a very skilled and flexible workforce. This brochure has been designed to provide you with a brief overview of the services and products available and to give you an insight as to how our company can benefit you and your organisation. We hope you find it informative and interesting.

SHAPING THE NEEDS OF INDUSTRY Fabrication Fabrication is a generic term that is often applied to all aspects of sheet plastics processing. Originally as a subcontract plastic fabricator we have gained a broad experience in working with all types of plastic. With our engineering pedigree we have risen to meet the ever increasing demands of industry and we have made the necessary technological investment in equipment and software to ensure we offer the most up to date and cost effective method of manufacture. Our technical sales team have a wealth of practical experience with industrial plastic components and product applications and are on hand to assist customers. Lin

SHAPING THE NEEDS OF INDUSTRY With Acrylic and plastic fabrication, therein lies the skill of our fabricators by bending and/or bonding an array of plastics creating a product purely by their labour and ability. We have a saying that “If we can’t make it no one can” and this has proved true throughout the years. Whether it be a simple construction of a machine guard or a complicated electrical housing we have the skills to create quality products. We serve a diverse range of industries, including electronics, food processing, packaging, pharmaceutical, distribution, printing, retail shopfitting, cosmetics and oil and gas. All of these sectors have their own special type of requirements whether it be special machining, bonding, intricate fabrication or marrying our fabrication with other wood or metal parts, or the use of very specialist materials such as PEEK, Nyloil and PVDF.

A specialist area for ourselves is the manufacture and installation, if necessary, of machine and equipment guarding. Using Polycarbonate, PETG, Acrylic or PVC our guarding systems are recognised throughout industry. As leaders of the field we have developed a modular framework system which can be produced in stainless steel, mild steel or aluminium, which is quick to install and extremely cost effective. Our guards adhere to current health and safety legislation and are produced to British Standard. Having produced guarding for industry for over 30 years we are the “guarding experts”, and invite you to tap into our expertise.

Machine Guards
Installation & Surveys Beyond the design and manufacture, customers often require a fitting service as well. Our experienced fitting teams are available to install within all types of environments including those with compliance overrides such as food, trading or security aspects. Our installation service covers all aspects of our manufacture from machine guards, signage, to retail displays.

Accurate trouble free installations are the product of accurate site surveys and to this end we offer site surveys free of charge. Carried out by one of our experienced workforce, the survey will detail not only the position of the manufactured item and surrounding area but in the case of machine guards it may include consideration to potentially hazardous areas. A full free design service is offered in conjunction with our free survey service.

SHAPING THE NEEDS OF INDUSTRY Plastic Bonding We can bond almost all plastics by using propriety adhesives especially formulated for particular types of plastic and for special applications, such as Acrylic to other plastics, or plastic to wood or metal or for waterproofing joints. We also UV bond which is particularly suitable for display cases, furniture and high end value products for which there is a requirement to achieve an invisible bond.
Plastic Welding An art form in itself, with hot air welding we can weld a whole variety of plastics ranging from PVC, Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, Polyethylene and PETG into tanks, chutes, hoppers, tunnels and even playground slide liners. This very specialist service is much in demand as industry requires more and more innovative manufacturing solutions.

COMPLEXIT Y SIMPLICIT Y REPEATABILIT Y We have a comprehensive array of conventional machining equipment including lathes and milling machines together with CNC linked HAAS vertical maching centres and lathes all operated by time served highly skilled engineers providing the technical expertise in producing complex machined parts to exacting standards. All our CNC machinery is linked to CAD/CAM technology with a permanent DNC link between design and programming departments. Modern plastics afford the flexibility and cost effectiveness which traditional metal counterparts just cannot compete with: stability over a wide temperature range, resistance to chemical attack, impact and abrasion resistant, self-lubricating and reduced maintenance costs.

Our Antares 2615 PX5, 5 axis machining centre, is at the leading edge of high speed cutting technology. Designed to produce complex production moulds in both Resin and Aluminium, it will accurately trim components in all materials including Kevlar and Carbon Fibre. As well as 5 axis machining the Antares can machine in 3 axis mode to very tight tolerances.

DESIGN With a comprehensive design studio we can assist customers with the design of their products or part, even with the most technical of briefs. Our SolidWorks software can highlight potential moulding problems and even highlight areas where cost can be engineered out of the product or part. Such is the scope of our design facility that we can visualise the item so well that it will often not be necessary to prototype, thus saving time and expense. With integrated software to CAD-CAM we can ensure an accurate link to tool making, which is vital to producing the finished product. So

We, despite having the most up-to-date and sophisticated CAD facilities and CNC machinery still place reliance on the ability of time served craftsmen who bring traditional tool making expertise to the creation of tooling. However it would not be us if we did not have the best in CNC linked tool making machinery and our Antares 2615 PX5 5 axis machining centre can machine the most complex of aluminium and resin tool moulds. This ability to in house tool saves time and money for our customers and gives ourselves the manufacturing control we demand.

Moulded parts may require brand or image printing either prior to moulding or after and we can offer UV or screen-printing from one colour up to 4-colour process and beyond. Pad and tampo printing together with engraving can also be carried out together with distortion print and the very latest technique of applying printed vinyl to material prior to moulding, thus being able to create Litho quality images with 3D relief. Cut vinyl text and graphics can also be supplied and applied in-house

D I D Y OU K NOW ? One of Arnold’s more recent success stories is that of the ‘Adguard’ pedestal cover. Manufactured from a wide choice of plastics and in a variety of colours. The covers are vacuum formed for stength and have high impact clear PETG interchangeable poster covers. Until now, the security pedestals have been ‘dead’ advertising areas for shops, but now with ‘Adguard’, promotional advertising can be brought right to the front of the store. The sleeves take minutes to install, and even less time for a retailer to change their poster promotions, which can be printed in house by our signs and graphics division. Whatever type of pedestal, whether it be a sensomatic, tag, or a mixture, the ‘Adguard’ range of sleeves fit all known makes of security pedestal with no impairment whatsover to the security function.
