I believe the design does not consist of a uniform style. Clever research and inspiration, analytic approach, openminded creativity, innovation and responsibility combined with understanding the situation and the needs of the user as well as respecting the space and time leads to creating excellent architecture.

CONCEPT PROJECT OF SCATTERED HOTEL IN SLAPNIK VILLAGE

MASTER THESIS 2014 Mentor: Location: Program:

prof.Vasa J. Perović MA BIA Slapnik, Goriška Brda, Slovenia Revitalisation of Abandoned Village and its surroundings with Tourist program

The goal of the conceptual design is revitalisation of the Slapnik village in the upper part of Goriška brda. The village has been completely abandoned and left to decay due to its remoteness over the last few decades. Revitalisation covers respectful architectural renovation on variety of damaged buildings. The new program in the village is a dispersed hotel with its programs placed into existing facilities. It includes accommodation of different categories, a restaurant with a bar, a wellness centre, multipurpose rooms for congress tourism and all the necessary infrastructure to operate. The new program turns the remoteness for which the village was for long in decline into quality that enables it to revitalize.

scheme: level of preserved buildings preserved building partially demolished building demolished building

11

APPROACH

DEMOLISHED BUILDING - CONSERVATION The buildings that are in the vast majority demolished, shall be conserved in order to prevent further deterioration. They define outdoor spaces where it is possible to feel the history of the building.

PARTLY DEMOLISHED BUILDINGS - RENOVATION The buildings that are partially destroyed, are rebuilt within the original dimensions. Missing parts of the walls are upgraded and reinforced by concrete, which is the building material of crushed stone from the local quarry near the village. In the buildings with changed purpose/program it is possible to interfere in the facade openings and interior of the house. This allows the use of it for the modern needs. Ather the renovation is complete it is obvious which elements are preserved and which have been added.

PRESERVED BUILDINGS - RECONSTRUCTION Most preserved buildings are reconstructed into the original state, while the majority uses traditional materials and construction methods. The renovation shows which materials and components are preserved and which are new. New elements are designed to meet the requirements of the modern user therefore they move away from the existing structure.

THE PROGRAM SCHEME Program of the scattered hotel in the village Slapnik contains a reception with the sale of domestic and traditional Brda products and crops, a bicycle rent, shared lounge, panoramic restaurant with bar and terrace with a corresponding service program. The wellness center contains a sauna with relaxation area and indoor hot tub with room for rest. On the outdoor terrace with panoramic views of the surrounding area is located 11 meter swimming pool with overflow edge, associated service areas are located on the terrace and an outdoor pool. Administrative areas of the hotel are located in a building with two multi-purpose rooms - conference room, meeting room, a small kitchen, a wine cellar with the possibility of tasting and buying wine and hotel service program. In the central part of the village is located apartment for employees, two rooms and two suites. The complex has about 15 employees. In the village there is a possibility of accommodating 36 or 52 guests. There are two apartments for four persons, six rooms and eight suites. All the accommodation spaces are designed for two people, depending on the configuration of the flexible bed regardless of whether the guests are a couple or not. Individual rooms have the option of joining in the case of more than two guests. Hotel guests have the opportunity to access in all guest spaces as well as the use of all hotel services with the card. Restaurant has a capacity of 32 people inside and 22 on the outdoor terrace. It serves meals every day for hotel guests and also outside guests by prior appointment. PALACE OF JUSTICE

5TH YEAR STUDIO PROJECT 2010 Mentor: Location: Program: Authors: Role:

prof.Vasa J. Perović MA BIA Ljubljana, Slovenia Republician Square Regulation, Palace of Justice, Parking House Mateja Pipan, Blaž Šolar Concept, Design, Sketches, Plans, Vizualisations

We had to find a new appropriate program for the area of Republician Square/parking space in Ljubljana. In Ljubljana we have a problematic area of Republician Square, which is now in fact a parking area. Our decision was to put a more suitable program of Court Palace, because of the linking with The Slovenian Parlament, Economic Center, Library and City Center.

Floorplan of the court halls and the underground garage

Section A-A

PALACE OF JUSTICE

Due to the urgent separation of the channels between employees, visitors, detainees and concealed witnesses, the programs are strictly separated from each other. Court halls are located in the basement (public), mailroom and dealers on the ground floor (half-public), the offices are in the upper floors (private). The paths in the basement are organized on the principle of two combs, so the court halls are fed by two major arteries - the public and private. Fire cores, staircases and elevators are also separated for the visitors (public) and employees (private).

The visitors enter the building through the public hall which extends from the 3rd basement all the way to the roof in the 8th floor. This enables them to see the entire structure and the functioning of the whole builnig although the upper floors are protected and private

The suqare in front of the buiding is paved with stones that can regulate water level and create various scenarios according to different events, needs and times of the year. One of the summer scenarios is shown on the picture below.

It is built under ground in order to have as less impact on the surrounding nature as possible. Green roof, olive trees on the teraces and natural stone on the facades makes it blend-in well with nature. WORKSHOP 2010 Location: Program: Authors:

Alanya, Turkey Pavilion for MEDS Blaž Šolar, Martin Tomažič

Our aim was to create a Pavilion that would enable to experience different climate conditions and temperature inside of the pavilion according to the exterior conditions. Summer temperatures in Alanya can reach more than 40°C. Therefore we designed the pavilion inspired by the technology of old Middle-eastern wind towers. They catch the wind and bring it through the evaporating water pools and than back out. This provides cooler temperatures inside the building.
