Inspiration
Jane birkin – Actress, singer & fashion icon ICHI’s autumn collection is inspired by the beautiful British actress, singer and fashion icon, Jane Birkin. Particularly her role as the enigmatic blonde model in Michelangelo Antonioni’s film masterpiece Blowup from 1966. With its artistic interior settings, its mystic and its cast of young beautiful actors, Blowup set the stage for swinging London with all of its coolness, casualness and extravagance. p. 05
In Blowup Birkin herself took the whole world by storm as the provocative blonde model working for a young handsome photographer. The film became famous for its nude-model scenes and the story has a touch of horror too as the photographer unwittingly takes photographs of a murder in a park. Blowup was the breakthrough for Birkin who soon became the it-girl of her time, famous for discrete boyish beauty and a mystic, intelligent appearance. Her fame peaked when she recorded the evergreen Je t’aime with Serge Gainsbourg in 1969, but that is another story. The aesthetics of Blowup and Birkin’s self-confident performance has been an inspiration for ICHI’s designers. Thus, our autumn collection is a tribute to Birkin, a beauty icon and a symbol of great style in a modern and intelligent way.

ICHI’s September delivery is arty and colorful with a raw attitude. There are lots of surprising combinations so typical for ICHI: Rich and warm materials, real leather details and jewelled knits meet delicate dresses and tops with 70’s inspired all over print. There are simple geometric shapes but also oversized elements of Japanese silhouettes. There is great attention to surface and structure. Cables, knops and voluminous patterns create oversized raised textures with graphic impact and many items are embellished with studs, pearls and rhinestones . Other highlights are fluffy, hairy knit yarns, and dip dyed fake fur. The palette is spontaneous and graphic with uniform basics, delicate pastels, fresh brights, black and white. It is spiced up with a luminous cress green and a mystic deep teal.
