1080 dropped on public track By Kristy Martin A tramping couple has made a formal complaint to the Minister of Conservation after poisonous 1080 pellets were dropped near them in the Marlborough Sounds over the weekend. The incident is being investigated by the Department of Conservation and the Nelson Marlborough Public Health Service. Kaiuma Bay residents Simon and Carol Caley were tramping on the Nydia Track in Pelorus Sound when they heard items “raining down through the trees” from a nearby helicopter and then spotted green pellets on the ground less than a foot away. “(Carol) smelt a strong smell of cinnamon and felt dust in her mouth and on her face and neck,” Mr Caley said. “She’s a little worried, still.
