Be prepared, fire victims warn

By Kristy Martin A Riverlands family who went through two fires last year and lost thousands of dollars worth of property are now warning others to be prepared. With Marlborough experiencing a cold snap and winter fast approaching, the Boyce family are urging people to have a fire plan. “We’ve lived through a lot – floods, earthquakes – but fire is worse,” said mum Kim Boyce. “Fire is dangerous. “Fire is real fast. “We now have smoke alarms in every room and I keep my important possessions, like my handbag and car keys, accessible.” Continued page 2 The Boyce family - Zarryn, Kellanie, Kim and four-year-old Mekka - with their new shed that replaced the one destroyed by fire (inset).
