Marlborough Croquet South Island Teams Champions

Brian Goodwin, David Grigg, Joy Hayes and Leah Thomson flew the flag for Marlborough by winning the South Island Croquet Teams event in Ashburton last weekend.

The team played their singles on the Saturday with Joy and David leading their grades and Brian second in his grade. On Sunday, Leah combined exceptionally well with Joy in the pairs, winning all their games. With the scores sitting on Marlborough’s 133 to Canterbury’s 134, it was winners take all scenario.

Spokesperson David Grigg says the game was close but with the last hoop scored by Marlborough, it gave them the seven points needed to win. Before the team winners were announced,
