Duck shooters prepare for open day Story and photo by Celeste Lodewyk The duck shooting season officially begins this Saturday and many avid hunters will this week be eagerly packing their equipment and readying their kitchens for Sunday’s roast duck. For the Neal family of Grovetown, duck shooting has been a tradition that has run through a number of generations. James and his sons Sam (8) and Finn (5) (pictured) will be amongst those out shooting this season, but more importantly, they will be spending quality family time together.

“Duck shooting is something that I enjoy doing with my boys. From gearing up through to preparing the duck to eat, it’s all time I get to spend with them,” he says. James first began duck shooting when he was three-years of age with his father and has carried on this tradition with Sam and Finn, taking them out at the same age. “They have always shown an interest in duck shooting and to be honest, I don’t get far without them,” he laughs.

Duck shooting is one of the highlights of the New Zealand shooting calendar. Stressing the importance of firearms safety is Mike Spray of the Mountain Safety Council. “Each season there are reported incidents involving careless use of shotguns and these could have been avoided if duck hunters had maintained responsible shooting behaviour and followed the seven rules of firearms safety,” he says. New Stadium makes a big splash By Robbie Parkes The Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000 official opening on the weekend went off without a hitch. Hundreds of children and their parents turned up for the Saturday morning opening which kicked off with Marlborough’s Big Splash - a live, televised countdown by the Mayor that ended with a lot of people getting soaked. Students from a number of Marlborough schools turned up in their school colours to take part in the Big Splash and get amongst the day’s activities. Kids from the likes of Renwick and St Mary’s Schools were excited about the new pools and were adamant they would be

there all day. Spring Creek School principal Andrew McFarlane said it was great to be there as part of the community. “It’s good getting involved and getting the best of it,” he said. A lot of parents said it was great just to see the new Stadium officially open and running. “It’s awesome, a lot better than what it was,” said Chris Andrew. He had to take the kids out to their sports games that morning but was pretty sure he would be back later in the afternoon, and the next day. Mayor Alistair Sowman said he was delighted by the turn out as well as the facility as a whole. “Alot of community feedback, and we have got a very exciting

War memorial clock foundations need work The first results of structural tests on the war memorial clock tower suggest it is sounder than initially suspected but work will be necessary to bring the foundations up to the standard required by the Building Code. The Marlborough District Council is still awaiting further test results on the masonry. Doubt about the adhesive strength of the stonework on the tower is now the primary reason the Council has left the area fenced off. “Our war memorial clock tower in Seymour Square is a very important element of the townscape and no one has enjoyed seeing it surrounded by safety fencing. However, most people also un-

derstood that legal liability for public safety required action once doubt was raised about its structural security,” said Council’s Assets and Services manager Mark Wheeler. “The Christchurch demands for specialist earthquake engineering expertise meant a longer-than-expected wait for detailed assessments but the preliminary assessment is that the underlying structure may not require major rebuilding. That’s a relief to us all,” he said. “However some work will have to be done and it’s hoped that a more detailed engineering report, due in the coming weeks, will give us the parameters, and some idea of the cost of the repairs that are going to be necessary,” said Mr Wheeler.

New owners for Blenheim PAK’nSAVE By Robbie Parkes Mark Elkington and Andrea Boock will be the owners of the Blenheim PAK’n SAVE. The supermarket is to be built and completed by early next year. Mark and Andrea currently own Blenheim New World, but Foodstuffs will be looking for new owners. “I guess they’ll put it on the market later in the year,” said Andrea. She said they put their application in three weeks ago for PAK’n SAVE, and the Foodstuff board approved them last Tuesday. “I guess it was a business decision even though we have had a lot of memories here at New World.” “It’s also a move up the ladder for us, we’re building a brand new store.” The couple have owned New World for two years. “There’s an excitement that comes with starting from scratch.” Robinson Construction Limited is in charge of the building process and excavation on the site is being done within the next week, with work expected to start after that. The new supermarket is part of the $56 million

King Salmon submissions close

Five of Marlborough’s seven Catholic churches are at risk of collapse in a moderate earthquake, according to preliminary assessments by the Wellington archdiocese. St Mary’s Catholic church is top priority for engineering assessment and repair. Renwick is yet to be assessed. The Wellington archdiocese is assessing all its 180 church-owned buildings for vulnerability to earthquake damage, and so far 41 of the 180 have been done, and of those, 36 are rated as being prone to earthquake damage.

About 1000 submissions had been made on King Salmon’s application to the Environment Protection Authority by the end of Friday. Subm ission s clos e on Wednesday at 5pm, and submitters’ evidence is due by July 27. Submissions can be made by email to kingsalmon@epa. govt.nz.

Students plea - don’t smoke An anti-smoking rap performed in front of District Councillors at last year’s annual plan consideration has helped encourage a stronger signal that all Councilowned reserves, parks and sports parks should be smoke-free areas. The students asked that all Marlborough’s parks, playgrounds and sports grounds, swimming pools and reserves be declared smoke free. G over n ment legislation already bans cigarette smoking from many places, including grandstands and pavilions.

Cr Terry Sloan

Council’s Assets and Services Committee deputy chairman Terry Sloan says the Council is not in a position to impose a public ban. But, he says, t he

Council does have signs discouraging smoking in public spaces, like playgrounds, although its signs a re often damaged by vandals. He and his fellow councillors on t he Assets and Services Committee think that sig nage shou ld b e extended from parks and playgrounds to include sports grounds, gardens and reserves and they want the smokefree logo included on any new signs that are put in. “It’s about sending the right signals – please don’t smoke in our parks and gardens and don’t

drop your butts in our green spaces. We want to get across the message that our sports grounds exist for the good health and wellbeing of our c om mu n it y – a n d smoking has no place in that,” he said. Councillor Sloan said the students who came along to Council last year with an original approach to making a submission should feel proud that their efforts had an impact and has encouraged councillors t o exp a nd it s no smoking policy.

By Robbie Parkes The Marlborough Youth Orchestra is undertaking Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major and will be performing in 2 months time, but they still do not have the numbers. Currently there are about 13 musicians in the Orchestra, but around 31 are ideally needed to play the piece to its full extent. “For the actual concert we have to have a functioning orchestra,” said Barbara Song, the Orchestra’s musical director. “In Beethoven’s time it was a big orchestra.” She said she would still like to have 8 violins, 4 cellos, 2 horns, 2 bassoons, 4 flutes, 2 clarinets, 2 oboes, a timpani drum and 2 violas. “The music’s there but no one is there to play it.” She said that the Orchestra leans towards younger levels, but this piece requires a lot of skill so anyone of any age with those talents is welcome to join. “It would be fantastic if there are people out there who would like to join us,” said Youth Orchestra Committee member Alison Fields. She said that opportunities like this do not often come up, especially when

this amount of talent is hard to come by at any one time. “We have the opportunity at the moment to do something well in excess of what we do,” she said. Also known as the Emperor Concerto, the 40 minute piece is difficult by any standard. “The music is extremely challenging,” said Barbara. “I guess it’s a great opportunity for the junior kids to actually stretch their technical skills and musicality.” The idea to do the piece was originally Todd Smith’s, the concerto’s conductor. “It’s a challenge, it’s what I need,” he said. On putting that performance on his fellow musicians, he said they were a bit reserved about attempting the 40 minute piece. “I think they’re starting to like it and getting used to it.” Nick Suminski, Todd’s classmate and fellow musician is undertaking one of the piece’s piano solos, as well as playing the Viola in other movements. The performance is pencilled in for June 20. Keen musicians wanting to join can contact either Barbara at barbaras@mbc.school.nz, 027 330 7313 or Alison at Alison.Fields@ openpolytechnic.ac.nz, 021 364 273

Disabled parking not an issue - Marl. Roads By Robbie Parkes Despite a few one-off instances, disabled parking on Queen St hasn’t been an issue according to Marlborough Roads. General manager Frank Porter said the majority of complaints received about that particular space have been about people without the disability card, getting tickets for parking there. “It has been an issue in the past,” he said. “We’ve instructed our wardens to be pretty vigilant.” Bob Kamea was threatened a couple of weeks ago when he confronted someone using the space without a card. Bob said the space had always been a

problem and more parks were needed on that street. Frank said no complaints of that nature had been made, but the need for more facilitation of those needs is always there. “Obviously we’d like to have more but that takes away other parking,” he said. “It’s a balance between getting the number of disabled parks right with other parks.” “A lot of them would be able to park in another space, but certainly at peak times parking there has become a premium.” There is no current consideration to change the parking situation on Queen St, but if more issues arise, Frank said Bill Mitchell (Spokesman Avanti Plus) has the sign outside his shop. it will be looked into.

Grant has been a Caltex retailer in Blenheim for the past 20 years but his history with the company extends back to his days as a mechanic working for Grove Road Auto Centre, where Eckford Engineering now stands. “After finishing there I purchased the Caltex site at 20 Grove Road in 1991, and then in 2008 I relocated to the Main Street’s Caltex and purchased the property and business from its Nelson owner. “What makes this business unique is the fact that both the property and business is owned locally, we are the last remaining Caltex in Marlborough and it is now the only locally owned and operated major service station in Blenheim,” Grant says. Blenheim boat builder Ron Perano says fundraising efforts to send himself and a crew of Marlborough Boys’ College rowers to London for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee boat pageant are continuing as he comes close to reaching his financial goal. Ron’s replica whaleboat Swiftsure is New Zealand’s only boat rowing in the pageant on June 3. The boat has already been shipped and is in transit for London, but back here in Blenheim Ron is running a raffle to raise the final amount needed to send the group. “We are just a wee bit short of funds so we are running a raffle starting tomorrow that will run until May 24. “There are two prizes, two handcrafted coffee tables made by myself. One crafted from mahogany and the other from a slab of walnut and the first prize winner has the first pick,” he says. Raffles cost $2 each and are being sold at Mitre 10 Mega Marlborough, at local supermarkets and at the Warehouse Blenheim store. Ron Perano with his boat Swiftsure 1.

Also known as The Needle, he was the longest living All Black, playing for the side from 1946 to 1949, and knighted in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Sir Fred was born in Oamaru, educated in Christchurch, and served overseas with the 2nd NZEF during World War 2. After the war he played for Auckland, and then the All Blacks. He went on to coach Auckland and then the All Blacks from 1966 to 1968, winning all 14 tests during that period.

At 12.01pm on Sunday Shadbolt set two other records - the world’s longest broadcast on radio or television, and New Zealand’s longestever broadcast. Viewers watched the live stream around the world, including the United States, Qatar, and Japan. He fuelled himself on pineapple juice.

Let’s celebrate Sign Language Week Story and photo by Annabelle Latz Robyn Carter shares the same wish with the rest of the deaf community in Marlborough. “We just want to have equal access to everything that hearing people take for granted.” This week is New Zealand Sign Language Week. Robyn, 50, a Renwick resident, has used it for 25 years. Sign Language is New Zealand’s third official language. Deaf Aotearoa New Zealand, with more than 2000 members over New Zealand, was formed more than 30 years ago, a major driver behind raising awareness of the deaf community. Robyn said daily tasks; like contacting power and phone companies need to be simplified. Only 20% of all available programmes on television are captioned. “We want to be able to choose what we want to watch, not be guided by what is available.” A letter from Robyn’s phone company recently offered extra broadband, informing her to ring if she did not want it. “I did want to opt out, but I find it very difficult to hear on the phone. This is quite a common practice for large businesses which assume that everyone

can hear.” Robyn was born with mild hearing loss, which gradually worsened. After a bout of complete deafness, she was fortunate enough to receive a Cochlear implant in her thirties; a device in which 22 electrodes are implanted in a part of her ear called the cochlea. It works via sound being transmitted to the electrodes which takes place on the little hairs inside the cochlea. The brain then translates that sound. Soon after the implant Robyn once tip-toed around her house thinking there was an intruder, but the sound was a dripping tap. “It gave me the best hearing I had ever had in my whole life.” The implant is not an option available for all deaf people. Her first major encounter with the deaf community was in her mid twenties in Auckland, before she had her cochlear implant. “I felt like I had come home. It finally gave me a chance to laugh at myself, we all understood each other.” Modern day technology has been wonderful; firstly the fax machine, then texting and skype. “There is a whole world of deaf humour out there, that is so particular to the deaf community.”

trevor sheldon, manager of Metallic sweeping shows some e-waste

Eliminate your E-Waste Story and photo by Annabelle Latz Get rid of your unwanted computer, television, lawn mower, and other unwanted electrical goods in a responsible way. Today the E-Waste Collection Facility will open its doors. It will run for three months, across the road from the Resource Centre on Wither Hill Rd extension. “This is a better alternative, with the added value of recovery, recycling and reusing,” said Solid Waste Manager at Marlborough District Council, Alec McNeil. Alec said the whole intention is to keep some of the goods in circulation, as quality elements like copper, gold, zinc and mercury can be recycled, rather than going to a landfill. During the trial, volumes will be assessed, as will cost and productivity. It will cost between $5 and $15, the same fee as for the Refuse Station. “What we need from the public is

volume support. If you have items that you don’t want, bring them in.” The Facility will be open from 10am -4pm, from Wednesday to Sunday. So far, one more job has been created, and more may be created, depending on volumes and demand. Trevor Sheldon is manager of Metallic Sweeping, contracted on behalf of MDC. He has been busy sorting through electronic goods at the Resource Centre, that from today can go straight to the E-Waste Facility. “I reckon we have gone through 500 computer screens and televisions in four weeks, and probably about three tonnes of other electrical goods like computer towers and laptops.” He said lots of it could be used again, especially motors from washing machines, dryers and dishwashers. Trevor said it is up to the public for this to happen. “It has got to be viable.”

Sun readers have their say... Q: What is your opinion on the new Ale House coming to Springlands?

Lindsay Green Blenheim It is good that it’s coming to Blenheim. We have enough places for wine.

Lyn Bowman Blenheim It’s a great location. Not all men drink wine so it’ll be good to have some variety. Wine tours for the women and men to the Ale House.

Karen Arnold Blenheim I haven’t heard too much about it. But it sounds like a good thing, we need more variety in Marlborough seeing as we’re so wine orientated.

Guy Young Blenheim It’s great that it will be in Springlands, I won’t have to walk as far to get a beer. It’ll be a nice change from all of the wine in Marlborough as most guys will agree.

“Bookworld is for the love of reading.”

Owen Keenan Blenheim Do we really need one? We already have plenty of wineries. But it’s good that it would be going up in Springlands.

Everyone enjoyed a night of fun and hilarity. From left: authors and guest speakers Jenny Pattrick, Denyse Saunders, Haley Pitts and host Kerre Woodham at the Blenheim Paper Plus Books & Bubbles .

Alan Todd Blenheim I am quite in favour of it. It’s about time for an Ale house, we have too much wine. However the Centre of Blenheim would have been better than Springlands.

Picton market Dear Editors, A huge thank you to all those who produced the wonderful produce to make the Farmers Market in Picton such a success, we look forward to next season. Thank you, Jean Smart.

Profits not service! publish a weekly weather summary including the important sunshine hours from the Research Centre at Grovetown. The centre is much closer to Blenheim than Woodbourne. The readings will more accurately reflect the town’s stats. By all means include Woodbourne readings as you see fit as they will give a good comparison on just how the two areas can vary. Yours Sincerely, Nigel Perry

Dear Ed, I see NZ Post are going to reduce mail delivery to three days a week. What a banana republic NZ is becoming! The SOE model was designed for profits not service. But it will result in a declining infrastructure. I thought we paid taxes for essential services like mail delivery, health etc? The failure of the SOE is shown by the lethargic, unsmiling “service” at the NZ Post post counters in central Blenheim. Don Coyote

Noad’s podium

It has taken him 12 years to win a first placing in Marlborough’s Flat Track Series, so you can imagine the grin on Blenheim motocross rider Mark Noad’s face as he proudly shows Sun reporter Celeste Lodewyk his trophy after last month’s win. Mark took out the top position in the MX2 class in the three round series which ended on Easter weekend. Competing on his Kawasaki KXF 250, the win he puts down to the physical training he had prior to the series. “I’ve competed in this series 12 times and only been able to achieve second and third placings, so I upped my cardio fitness and got better prepared for this year’s series. Fitness was definitely the key,” he laughs. At age 27-years Mark is a regular rider on tracks around Marlborough, spending most winter weekends riding up North Bank or at Golfers World’s track in Riverlands. During the summer he says it’s common for him to put down his tools at work and head straight out for a ride in the evenings. “Riding is something I have grown up with and since the days of hooning around home on our peewee 50 as a kid, it’s grown to be more than just a hobby,” he says. Mark raced in his first competition in 1997 when he joined the Marlborough Motorcycle Club. There he began as an enthusiastic 12-yearold under the watchful eye of father Geoff Noad and mentor Peter Grinter. “Dad has always supported me and even now enjoys travelling away with me when competing. “He was never far away when I needed help fixing my bikes,” Mark laughs. As his confidence and riding ability grew, Mark began competing at a higher level and achieved some great results.

“The most memorable moment would have been riding in the 2002 New Zealand Junior Championship. I finished ninth out of around 100 riders and for my first national level competition, it was a thrill at the time,” he says. Today Mark races for Team Pygmy Racing under the guidance of Peter Grinter. “Peter has shown me heaps of support over the years and I own him a lot. “I also wa nt to tha n k mum, dad and everyone at Marlborough Motorcycle Club for their help over the years,” Mark says. Mark’s skills under the bonnet of a car have come in handy when it comes to repairing and maintaining his bikes. He first joined his parents’ automotive business as an apprentice at age 20-years and is now a fully qualified mechanic at Automotive Solutions Blenheim. “I think I was always going to head this way with dad being a mechanic, and it’s been handy knowing my way around a bike considering how often things break,” he jokes.

Karen Jennison There are times when the body tells you that it needs help to relieve symptoms from back and neck pain, through to ailments associated with the nervous system. Karen, along with her husband Chris own Marlborough Family Chiropractic on Henry Street, Blenheim where they work to treat a range of complaints in all ages. Karen was once a civil engineer in Alaska before she returned to university and completed her training to become a chiropractor. The family moved to Marlborough nearly

Chiropractic treatment, referred to as spinal adjustment gently and safely restores normal function to the spinal joints, thereby relieving nerve irritation and allowing the body to restore health. Marlborough Family Chiropractic also provides nutritional counselling for overall health, orthotics to improve postural problems and cranial-sacral treatment for all ages.

WindoW solutions Deal to pests and keep the warm air in The coming winter months provide a challenge to many homeowners as they battle to keep insects out and the warm air in. This is where Renwick based business MagicSeal can provide the answer with its range of New Zealand designed and made products including secondary glazing, magnetic insect screens and security stays for windows and doors. Owners Rodger and Karen Winter says the benefits of using magnetic insect screens are their easy application, ability to be colour matched to existing joinery, easy corner tabs for pulling the screen off and their flexibility. The screen adheres to the perimeter of the fixed window frame on the inside of the window and does not restrict the view. The screens are held in place by MagicSeal’s unique Magnetic Sealing System and are custom made to fit each individual window by Rodger. In preparation for winter, Rodger and Karen have been busy providing quotes and installing their MagicSeal Secondary Glazing in homes throughout Marlborough. This cost effective and easy-toinstall product combines established double glazing principals with its unique magnetic sealing system

to achieve cost effective acoustic and thermal insulation for existing windows. The way MagicSeal works is a UV stabilised acrylic sheet is fitted to the inside of an existing window and held in place using MagicSeal’s magnetic system. This traps a layer of still air between the pane of glass and acrylic sheet reducing heat loss, condensation, noise as well as blocking out up to 90 percent of UV light. And because MagicSeal is a proud, locally owned business – Rodger provides free no-obligation quotes to every area of Marlborough and is happy to provide a room by room service.

Insect proof your home Eco friendly pest control for your family Keep harmful chemicals, flysprays and poisons out of your home with Magicseal, specialists in magnetic and retractable insect screens for windows and doors, as well as security screens.

Tinting - Prepare your home now for summer Tinting your home’s windows will bring you a range of benefits that will not only improve the health and comfort of your family, it will also protect the interior of your home from the sun’s harsh rays. Summer may be when the sun’s rays are the harshest, but window tinting in time for winter is advisable in order to help reduce heat loss from your home. By tinting now, you will also be preparing your home for when the warmer months arrive. Blenheim business The Tint Doctor, owned by Lloyd Yorke has been providing this service throughout Marlborough for a number of years. According to Lloyd installing solar window film helps control ultraviolet rays, heat, glare, fade and provides a level of privacy, all variant on the degree of tint used. Health and comfort: Excessive exposure to direct sunlight is not

healthy for the skin, deteriorating it and prompting premature aging. Home window tint helps to block UV rays. Protect your home’s interior: Sunlight that comes in through your windows can cause a lot of damage to carpets and furnishings. The heat can also damage electronics and cause wood to warp. Protect your possessions by tinting your windows. Conserve energy: Solar window film has an insulating effect during winter, helping to keep the heat in the home. Privacy: Home window tint helps to keep prying eyes out while still enabling you to enjoy your view. This is important when you have expensive items, and rather than having to pull your shades to hide them, have your windows tinted.

SEkAI: Sharon is pleased to announce the safe arrival of Jeremy (Mike) Mikaio on 23 April, 2012 at 12:06pm (9lb 6oz) at Wairau hospital. Thank you to my midwife Gwen, my mum, my aunty Sarah, family and friends.

Knowing who to talk to about having a home birth would help women feel more confident when planning their own. This is why mother and qualified midwife Olivia Doonan has chosen to help form ‘Home Birth Support Marlborough’ to provide a reference for women/whanau who are interested in home birth. Olivia gave birth to her 11month old son Amiri in a home water birth and says at the time she didn’t know anyone with their own experience to talk to. “Because I felt I didn’t know of anyone to talk to, I feel it’s important to provide Marlborough women with information and support so they know what their options are,” she says. Home Birth Support Marlborough is being officially launched this Saturday which coincides with the International Day of the Midwife. At the launch there will be a screening of ‘Face of Birth’, a new documentary that has recently been released. A $15 door donation is encouraged as money raised will be going toward a gas califont which will be used to heat water in birthing pools, though any donation will be gratefully accepted. Anyone is welcome to attend the launch which begins with afternoon tea from 2:30pm and screening begins 3:30pm at the Woodbourne Community Hall.

Live art performance

WIN a year’s subscription to new look Food Magazine

Sudhir Kumar Duppati (right) took his teaching role at Marlborough Boys’ College to a practical level on Wednesday. His Live Art performance was called ‘Devolution #5’, which attempted to transcend cultures in search of common understanding about ‘being’ a human. “My concerns about ‘presence’ and ‘being’ within a cultural context became significant to my performance,” he said. Sudhir works in the Visual Art Department at the College. He said the contradictory nature of human existence is in constant tension between its universal transcendent nature and its added social and cultural values. Sadhir said it makes this world into a paradoxical theatre.

This was what a group of seven women did recently at a fun fundraising night held at the Trout Hotel. A flair for flowers There will be hats, wall displays, clothes, and flower displays making their way to Nelson this week. Floral Art is art of any form, to do with flowers. Cheryl Greer is one of 12 Marlborough representatives taking part in the Flora Art Society New Zealand Conference and AGM, which goes from today until Friday. “I’ve been doing it for 12 years now, I just love the flowers, the colour, and the people.” Marlborough has one of the biggest groups of floral artists in New Zealand. “People here just love their gardens and flowers and art,” said Cheryl. She said having an eye for colour and design is a big help, but anybody can learn.

Celebrate our nurses Marlborough will celebrate Nurses Day on May 14 Story and photo by Annabelle Latz Claire Heng graduated from Nursing College four years ago, but is continuing with her studies. The 24 year-old, originally from Picton, has been practicing nursing for 18 months, and has recently taken the position of Clinical Nurse Leader at The Wairau Community Clinic. Over the next few years she will complete her Masters Degree, with an eventual goal is to be a nurse practitioner; the highest level of qualification a nurse can reach. “It’s challenging, it’s really hard work, but it’s paying off already.” Friday May 11 is Nurses Day in New Zealand, and Marlborough will celebrate it on May 14. The theme is Bridging the Gap, with a focus on creating a flow between the public and medical facilities, to ensure medical help is more easily received. She said the shortage of General Practitioners in Blenheim has made her job a very rewarding one. “The GP’s in Blenheim are ‘chocca

bloc’, so it’s nice to be able to nurse the patients who haven’t been able to enrol.” The Clinic has only been open for a month, and 450 patients have already enrolled. “That’s really what we are about, meeting the needs of the community.” When Claire was 19 years-old her mum died, after a long battle with illness. She remembers the amazing job of the nurses. “I want to help people in the same way they helped me.” Claire said the general public perception is that nurses are ‘doctors’ hand maids.’ “We have our own field, and are able to provide a lot of the services that people need in primary health care.” Claire urges nurses to keep training and studying, in order to keep the profession at a high standard. “I’m proud of myself, and I know mum would be proud of me too.”
