By Celeste Lodewyk Renwick Community Memorial Hall committee members have vowed to “fight to the end” to prevent the hall’s ownership being transferred to the Renwick School. Last Tuesday a heated public meeting was held between Renwick residents and members of the Renwick Community Memorial Hall committee to address the hall’s ownership. The intention was for members of the public to

vote on the transfer of the hall’s ownership from the community to the Ministry of Education, to be administered by the Renwick School Board of Trustees. The motion was put forward by Renwick business owner and member of the Renwick Residents’ Association Anthony van de Water. Mr van de Water said the future of the hall lay with the school, and described the transfer as a “no-brainer”.

“This hall is a wonderful asset to the community but where I stand I can see its demise. “Over the past 27 years there have been no improvements made to it, just maintenance which has been done as required. “As far as I can see there is no or very little income (likely) from hall bookings in the future, whereas the school has the funds available to maintain it to a higher standard,” Mr van de Water said.
