God’s essential nature and character is mercy. God is merciful and full of compassion hence provides promising glints of light in a darkened world. A Merciful person never offends anyone rather compassionately sees all those who are hurt or wounded by others. When we were incapacitated due to sin by the evil nature of this world; God sent His son to the wicked world to save us. God’s mercy is reflected in the cross of Christ as a direct reflection of His love for us. “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2.6-8). Moreover, it is the Mercy of God that holds us back from our wrong desires. God’s mercy never rejects you, rather it always embraces you to Him. May the mercy of God cover you in the perilous time as this .

ABOUT JESUS

BLASSON N MATHEW Who do you think Jesus is? God desires that we must live to the full potential of life; which is possible only by knowing Jesus. Jesus once asked his disciples “who do you say I am?” Though the question seems to be simple, it is an interrogation that determines their belief about Jesus Christ. Moreover, the question clarifies whether His disciples really know the identity of Jesus. In particular, Jesus wants them to publicly confess what they believe. Simon Peter, one of the disciples of Jesus said “YOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.” In response to that Jesus said “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven (Mathew 16.17). How about you? Are you wavering in your faith? Peter had a strong conviction of faith and did not waver in belief. Do you have strong convictions? If your answer is yes; are you willing to confess your most holy faith before the world? It was on this revelation of Peter that Jesus built His church. It is difficult to receive any of the spiritual blessings without revelation of Jesus. Jesus always had a wonderful identity in the sight of the father- in heaven. The Bible says about Jesus that 4being made so much better than the Angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Hebrews 1.4).

Consequently, God desires that everyone in the world may have access to the supernatural world and enter into eternal life. However, revelation on the three identities of Jesus is the means to get access to the spiritual realm. Lord Jesus himself said that “I am the way, the truth and life” (John 14.6). Jesus is the way to the father in Heaven, He is the truth the entire world is seeking after and He is the life by whom the thirsty and hungry in spirit are satisfied. Even during the time of Jesus Christ, many thought that any of the old testament saints might have advented in Jesus that is the reason for all the miracles He is performing. While the world was left in confusion and doubt about Jesus, Peter had a revelation which led him to another height in spiritual life and ministry. For Jesus it doesn't matter what others say about Him. However, what we the disciples say about Him matters a lot to him not for him. Let us have a special revelation about Him above all the available historic and scientific explanations. As our faith in Him increases, we grow in the relationship and thereby to His exceedingly great inheritance for the saints. May the good Lord grow you in the spirit filled revelations on a daily basis.

MERCY OF GOD OVER YOUR PROMISES

God has shown his mercy upon us in unimaginable ways. Despite human beings' sins, God has always been merciful to them. Do you know why God did not forsake Adam and Eve When they disobeyed Him in the garden of Eden. Seems like God had a soft corner for them though He punished them. Moreover, God had blessed them with a fruitful life in the earth despite minding the insubordination. Lamentations 3:22 says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” The Bible explicitly says, God's mercy upon us is renewed everyday. Whatever we are is because of His mercy. Even looking at the present scenario, the world is affected by a pandemic Which has left it distorted.

But I can assure you that those who fear God will never lack anything. Even if I walk through the valley of death, God is Our Shield, Our Provider and Our Protection through all miseries. Psalm 91: 6 and 7 say, "nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you." This is the promise of the Lord and we have to keep faith in Him. As even the verse says, none from opposition will come near you since God is protecting you. The next verse tells us that we will see the end of our enemies. Psalm 91.10 says that no disease will ever touch us and no affliction will come near our home. His mercy endures forever for those who believe in him and surrender to him. This is the Promise of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ALIVE IN CHRIST TESTIMONY

A very old saying reads “A Friend in need is a Friend indeed.” My father was a good friend of mine, but sudden death separated him from me and I was left all alone in loneliness. Since then my situation had become worst. I lost my job, consequently my reputation and social status deteriorated. Everything which I considered to be the strength of my life had vanished. On the verge of depression, a friend worked hard to bring me back to normal life; It was none other than my wife. Though I had everything in my life I felt a vacuum and I sensed something was missing. I had gone away from God, leading a worldly life. I was wandering like a lost sheep without a shepherd. At present, I find it difficult to explain the emptiness I felt in those days. However, as I look back, I realise God’s great Mercy which helped me not to go after many Godless ways. God directed me to His perfect ways immediately as I repented and turned to Him. He was kind and merciful to save me through His Son Lord Jesus Christ. I believed in Jesus as my personal savior and received water baptism. Following that incident I received a new chapter. My spiritual journey began there.

God had mercy on me and my family. He saved us from different phases of life Such as from being bed ridden from being severely sick, from accidents etc His grace is sufficient for us. Moreover, God had ministered to us through many men of God. I assure you that God will not only use His servants to encourage you but He will also draw you closer to Him. However, once you become His own children, He will have a relationship with you and He will reveal His plans over your life. The books in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation point to one important fact that God is waiting from the beginning, Yes! Father God is waiting for mankind to return to Him. Perhaps no other passage in the Bible better illustrates God’s mercy than the parable of the prodigal son who was lovingly received by his father upon his return (Luke 15:11-32).

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again;he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. (Luke 15: 20-24). God did not show partiality to anyone; He found fault in the whole earth. God said “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But “God so loved the world and He gave His one and only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

For this reason John the Baptist testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’” Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1:15-17). Further, John said to the people, “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15). Would you agree that the greatest earthly love is mothers love? To be precise the word says “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!" Isaiah 49:15.

Dear friend, whatever situation you are in now God will help you. You may say I am not worthy, I have sinned, nobody understands me or you may be on the verge of suicidal thoughts. People may be speaking against you saying that you are good for nothing. However, understand that you have come to this earth with a perfect reason. Therefore God will help you to reach His perfect plans for you. The expectation of the enemy - devil is that you always fall. The Bible says “The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy.” But do you know why you are still alive despite the winds and waves? If you are sustained and alive reading this passage; it is only because of the grace of God, who is your shield.

People may be speaking against you saying that you are good for nothing. However, understand that you have come to this earth with a perfect reason. Therefore God will help you to reach His perfect plans for you.

Each and every individual is created unique in God’s eye, if you are ready to submit your life. God is ready to transform you. God said “Henceforth I call you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth; but I have called you friends” (John 15:15). Again when we read in some phrases, God calls us as children. Isn’t that a greater relationship than a friend? “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him” (1John 3:1). “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8:1417). What a merciful God we serve. “He will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). May God help you with His great mercy that transformed me and my family.

ETYMOLOGY MERCY OF GOD Rev. Shyam Raj

Mercy in the biblical sense is much more than simply one aspect of God’s love. Mercy is in some sense God’s own being. God speaks his Name three times to Moses. The first time, he says “I am who I am” (Exodus 3:14). The second time: “I am gracious to whom I am gracious, and show mercy to whom I show mercy” (Exodus 33:19). The rhythm of the phrase is the same, but graciousness and mercy are substituted for being. For God, who He is means being gracious and showing mercy. This is confirmed by the third proclamation of the divine Name: “The Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, rich in steadfast love and faithfulness (Exodus 34:6). The Hebrew word chesed" is translated as, ``loving-kindness," "mercy," "steadfast love," and sometimes "loyalty,". Chesed,” (pronounced kheh -sed) which is found some 249 times in the Old Testament. 'Mercy,' 'goodness,' 'favour' for God's attitude to man, and 'kindness' for man's attitude to man. God is essentially good in himself and relatively good to us that means majesty and mercy. Hesed, mercy or love, is part of the vocabulary of the covenant. On God’s side, it stands for a steadfast love, one able to keep alive a relationship forever, regardless of what happens: “My love will never depart from you” (Isaiah 54:10). Since God’s covenant with His people is a story of broken promises and new beginnings from the very start (Exodus 32–34), it is evident that such unconditional love includes forgiveness; it must of necessity be merciful.

In Greek, the language of the New Testament, the word for mercy is eleos. This word is familiar to us from the prayer Kyrie eleison, which is a call for the Lord’s mercy. Eleos is the usual translation in the Greek version of the New Testament and it is found 1656 times in the Bible. “Happy the merciful, for they will receive mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Jesus promises nothing else to the merciful than what they are already living - mercy. In the other beatitudes, the promise contains something more, leads further: those who weep will be comforted; the pure of heart will see God. Mercy is the fullness of God. The merciful are already living in God’s life. Mercy is more than a feeling of kindness and a desire to care for someone. Mercy demands more than feelings. Mercy is action that helps the helpless. Therefore let us have mercy and be kind to others.

THRIVING AMIDST THE LONELINESS OF COVID!

JOBIN SAM VARGHESE The endless stretch of COVID-19 has left many of us in various challenges, mainly exposing the vulnerabilities of loneliness and helplessness. Many of our apartments/housing complexes in the urban cities have been deserted with “to-let” boards coming up in most of the streets. Some of us have lost our friends or family members in this pandemic, and for some of us, our support communities/friends are not around us anymore. Staying alone during these deadly waves of COVID-19 is not something that we were prepared for! For some others, it could be the loneliness they face even when they are surrounded by people. Many of our workplaces have been increasing the deliverable with shorter timelines which results in prolonged working hours that leads to the shooting up of stress. For those who have been “alone”, or for the “singles”, this season of time could bring back those deeper underlying fears that you would have tried skipping out over these years! You probably have slipped into being in a “shell”, silently suffering from fears, vulnerabilities, and scars of the past that had begun to haunt you! The Bible assures of Jesus who went through every storm that we could have gone through – including this season – “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin”- Hebrews 4:15 One such passage which Comforted me and with which I could relate to, is this: "A time is coming and in fact, has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me” – John 16.32

Jesus was sharing this with his disciples on how his crucifixion experience would be. Mind you, we have Peter, Thomas and others who had publicly vowed their devotion to stick to Jesus and to even give up their lives if needed. Jesus knew and had predicted that they couldn’t stick on to him during those hours. Aren’t we also living in a time where our friends/ communities have also been “scattered, each to their own home”? Yes, those feelings of loneliness could suffocate you, and you may not know whom to reach out for help. Jesus experienced this feeling of loneliness while his closest disciples deserted him, leaving him alone during those trials, floggings, and finally the crucifixion at Calvary. The assurance Jesus had, which we too can cling on to is the verse “Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me”

We find many other examples in the Bible. The verse quoted below is the experience of Apostle Paul: “At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength…. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever”. Amen. 2 Timothy 4:16-18 I loved how each of these verses from Paul speaks so much about the assurance he had while going through that loneliness, receiving the grace from God and having faith in God. This is especially reflected in his words “will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom”. We can also cling on to these words and renew our faith and receive grace from God as we go through difficult times.

Below are some of the assurances God promises us and the way we could deal forward! 1) Trusting in God This could be a cliché – trusting in God and in his love for us during this season could be painful and difficult. We should not trust God because of our visible circumstances but because of his promise towards us, of being with us to the very end. Jesus promised,” I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” – John 14.18. Even while the way ahead looks ambiguous, take hold in God who has promised not to leave you nor forsake you through any seasons of your life – including COVID. The vulnerabilities that you have been exposed to in your life through the pandemic is an opportunity to reflect upon yourselves and ensure to trust in God who – as I always read or sing or preach - is our shelter and fortress. There is nothing in this world that can separate you from the love for Christ. Even when you are battling with the silent pains and loneliness, Jesus sees you through. Would you open your heart to the healer and submit your care to him?

I love this verse, “My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely “ Song of Solomon 2:14 It may feel like you have failed or are worried and are hiding away from anyone’s reach. May this time of solitude result in an intimacy with the lover of your soul. Even while you wouldn't be a priority and you don’t have many people to speak out your feelings to, Jesus longs to hear from you! Throughout the scriptures, we see how God uses the solitude to prepare and speak with his people – be it with Apostle John while he was alone on the island of Patmos, or with Elijah on Mount Horeb, or with Apostle Paul in Arabia during his initial years of conversion .Don’t miss out on the beauty of being in solitude with God.

2) Unwrapping the Fears! This long-stretched pandemic brings out some great fears which could suffocate us! Being a child of God, let us not allow fear to enslave us. For many, the top in the list of fears would be the fear concerning their “health” or “life “ The fear of losing your health and life – probably dying alone, without anyone around, could be a fear that grips you now. The constant news or WhatsApp or FB posts, and news about people we know succumbing to the virus might bring this question to our minds – “am I next? “ Even as we take the necessary precaution, we trust that God is our protector, submit to his will in our life, and believe that he is our healer. Having said that, we know that during this season, many believers have lost their lives! Believing in Christ doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t be infected or that you wouldn’t lose your life, but we cherish the greatest hope that even if we are buried down the soil, we will continue to live in Christ.

Because he lives, I live forever! Such a joy and hope through each day to know that Christ has given us the victory over death and sin and has filled us with a new ray of hope of life! With this hope, we can proclaim “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" 1Corinthians 15:55. That is why Paul stated, “for me to live is Christ and die is gain”! When our heartbeats stop, we haven’t lost the battle, but we enter the rest with our father in heaven – the place that we longed for – and will be with the lover of our souls and see him with our own eyes! Even if we have lost some of our loved ones in this season, we don’t need to grieve like the rest of the people without hope, because we have the hope that on the day when the trumpets shall sound, the dead in Christ will rise, and we too who are alive will be caught up in the mid-air and we will spend eternity with our Lord and his saints!

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this? John 11:25-26. 3) Look beyond you! Christian life is never about us. We are called to serve and show compassion to the people around us! Our thoughts shouldn’t be self-centered which just mounts up our pains and sufferings. When you pray, think, and support your dear ones who are battling with troubles, you become selfless and that compassion you show will ease you! Paul explains on how this could be possible “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort”. 2 Corinthians 1: 3-7

Conclusion Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalms 23.4 While it could be some of the darkest valleys we walk through, not being sure of where we are heading up, be assured of the one who is with you. Let’s not waste away this season. It's not just about surviving this time, but it's about thriving towards a closer intimacy with the Lord. Even as we realize that our earthly friends and families have limitations to reach out to us, let us remember that we have a heavenly father who is there by our side. ”The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it” - 1 Thessalonians 5:24 Here is an Abstract from an "Article of David Wilkerson" “God says to all grieving, hurting saints, “Fear not! I see and know all your suffering and I will not allow Satan to destroy you. You may ask, “But what am I to do? How can I have the Lord’s peace in all this?” The answer is found in God’s word to Moses and Israel. With the sea before them, an enemy behind them, and no place to turn, God commanded them, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. . . . The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:13-14). This last phrase, “Hold your peace,” means no more worrying, no more trying to figure everything out on your own. Instead, trust God to make a way for you…”
