How did you launch your business? I found my passion for cake decorating years ago when I tutored kids. As a way of rewarding them for doing their homework I’d bake them cupcakes! From there I started baking for special events and through word of mouth it resulted in a growth in the orders for my cakes. I realized this was an activity I enjoyed! It has been a natural progression and I am delighted that it has turned into a business. How long have you been in business for?
What has been the most rewarding part of owning your business? The most rewarding part of owning a business is the freedom of doing what you want and being your own boss. From where do you draw on your inspiration to create new products? I believe inspiration is everywhere! I get a lot of inspiration from long walks. Being outside gets my creative juice flowing!
I’ve been in business for about 2 years. How did you come up with your business name? When creating my business name I wanted it to sound magical and dreamy! Originally I came up with the name “Fairytale Cakes” but it didn’t have that certain ring I was after. I’m lucky I have a boyfriend who has his finger on the pulse when it comes to my business and suggested the name” Storytale Cakes!” I thought it was brilliant! Every cake does have its own story – thank you Tommy. What has been your most popular selling item in 2014? It would definitely be the red velvet oreo cupcakes!
If there were one important trick or trade secret you have learnt, what would it be? One of the most important trades I have learnt is to be “adaptive” Cake trends will change so it’s important to be adaptable to the market. What do you think could help grow your small business or is there something that has helped you spread the word quickly? Definitely be up to date on all social media! What trends can we expect to see in 2015? There is a growing trend on geometrical, metallic shades and pastel coloured cakes!

STYLISHLY SWEET Our animals from Noah’s Ark have found a safe home in Stylishly Sweet’s Hot Air Balloon. A combination of two themes blending together perfectly.
ROUVELEE CREATIONS Stripes, symmetrical circles and meticulous care have been taken to create a stage for this super cute baby elephant. He may not be holding a balloon, however his white bowtie is the perfect offset to the stripes base white ribbon. Also worth mentioned is the intricate designed piping around Markus’ name... exquisite.
CAKING IT UP A storm of rectangles in a blue ombre sequence has taken us to the story of Noah’s ark once again, with beautiful animals 2 by 2. The mid tier has been kept simple so that the base and top tiers frame this stunning creation.

“The inspiration for my sons christening started off with my obsession of all things GOLD. It really does add a perfect touch to any event and helped create the overall elegance I was searching for. I really wanted to incoroprate a masculine colour so opted with blue beacause of my love for hydrangeas.” Vesna Pilachevska
The grand centrepiece of this was the stunning 3-tiered cake by Sweet Bloom Cakes which was accompanied by a selection of gourmet desserts by Strawberries & Co, Sugar Crumb Parlour and Macaron Delights.

“After discussing with Vesna what her inspiration and vision was we started off searching for the perfect Cherub centrepiece as we knew we wanted the Cherub Angels to be a stand out piece. We searched high and low and finally stumbled across the perfect size Cherub!! We decided to go for a grand banquet table setting which would complement the regal theme and enhance the overall look. To bring in our clients love for hydrangeas even further we incorpotated hydrangeas onto the Cherub centrepiece by placing it on a large bed of blue & white hydrangeas. Along with personalised menus & place cards designed to suit the invitation and theme. Other regal elements such as the large gold candelabras added oppulance to the table. The entire table was filled with gold vases running along the centre of the tables which had an assortment of roses, carnations & hydrangeas. Each place setting also consisted of personalised soy candles by Wax Pouring Chicks. A white vintage console adorned with an arrangement of fresh hydrangeas and candles, together with the gold regal frame welcomed guests and set the scene for the grand and elegant decor of Billy’s Christening.
Guests were treated to a lavish assortment of Candy & Desserts. We chose a white french ornate table to continue the regal look dressed with a beautiful floral arch, bringing in the gold and french blue hydrangea accents. The gold platters, gold candy and gold foiled personalised chocolates enhanced the colour palette and regal look! The Orthodox Christening Candles were draped in white dupion silk, topped with a french blue bow. These were embellished with a gold cherub initial keepsake as was the Christening Box.
