RANZCP Membership The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (RANZCP) welcomes you as a new Trainee or Specialist International Medical Graduate (SIMG). RANZCP is the principal organization responsible for training, educating and representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand. The College’s vision is to enhance the mental health of our nations through leadership in high quality psychiatric care. This guide will provide you with key information about the college and your membership. It will also help guide you on ways to keep yourself on track throughout your training and where you can get assistance if needed. This guide can help you at any point of your training program, so it’s worth holding onto but an updated copy of this guide is available at www.ranzcp.org/support along with a range of other useful resources.

Associates As a trainee you are automatically an associate member

Fellows You can apply to become a fellow once you have successfully completed the RANZCP training program or otherwise met the requirements for fellowship.

Structure and Governance The RANZCP is governed by a Board of seven directly-elected directors who are fellows of the College and are led by the College President. Many of the activities and functions of the College are driven by a large number of committees and supported by its employees, who are led by the Chief Executive Officer. THERE ARE SIX CONSTITUENT COMMITTEES OF THE BOARD. THESE ARE: • • • • • •

Audit Committee Corporate Governance and Risk Committee Education Committee Finance Committee Membership Engagement Committee Practice, Policy and Partnerships Committee

The RANZCP is governed by a Board of seven directly-elected directors

In addition, there are also subcommittees such as the Trainee Representative Committee and the Overseas Trained Psychiatrist Representative Committee that also report directly to the board. Within the College, there are six faculties and twelve sections to represent specialist aspects of psychiatry. For more information visit the College website at www.ranzcp.org/governance The College has a local office in each state of Australia, with its’ head office in Melbourne and there is a national office in New Zealand.

Self Awareness Understanding and attending to how you feel, what your attitudes are and how you respond to particular situations will help build your resilience and ensure you are on track throughout the fellowship program.

How do you cope? Everyone copes with stressful events differently. Some examples of coping mechanism are: • • • • •

Break the problem down in smaller parts Seek assistance Avoid the issue or become with drawn Consume more indulgent food and drink Increase amounts of sleep

How healthy is your coping style?

UNHEALTHY

Not all coping styles are healthy. Some coping styles may provide temporary relief, but leave with you with much bigger problems later down the track. Consider how you may be able to adjust your coping style to incorporate more self care activities, particularly during times of high stress. 4
