Xchange Technology
Every building needs a constant supply of fresh outdoor air to keep the inhabitants healthy and comfortable. Outdoor air intake is usually too hot in summer and too cold in winter, causing added load on the airconditioning system and increasing the operating expenses.
Xchange Energy Recovery™ technology uses the heat of the stale indoor air to be expelled, to either heat or cool the incoming fresh air, to a temperature closer to the existing indoor air. This process dramatically reduces the load on the airconditioning system and the operating costs.
Xchange Energy Recovery™ systems are both innovative and practical solutions to bring fresh outdoor air into the work environment, while exhausting stale humid air. During summer the Xchange module dehumidifies and pre-cools the hot outdoor fresh air, saving up to 70% of the capacity required to cool this fresh air load.
To increase the fresh air intake into a building, it is standard practise to increase the capacity of the airconditioning equipment, consequently increasing the capital outlay and running costs.
Now with the Xchange Energy Recovery™ you can dramatically increase the fresh air without the increased capital and operational costs. This cost effective initiative enables the purchaser to earn valuable Green Star Points through the use of Armcor Air Solutions™ products.
Armcor can manufacture systems to suit your design and space requirements, to improve air quality and reduce energy consumption
Transfer Media available
1. Sensible Heat Transfer Media
The sensible heat exchanger is made of aluminium especially designed for air to air heat recovery and is used in many applications including swimming pools, toilet exhausts, condensation control and corrosive environments. Sensible Heat Media only recovers temperature.
2. Total Heat Transfer Media
The total heat exchange media is made of ER paper which has a high moisture permeability, good air tightness and excellent tear resistance. The total heat exchange media recovers both temperature and humidity.
3. Counter Flow Heat Transfer Media
Armcor again has the solution; we have introduced a new range of counter flow heat exchangers made from aluminium, which has total separation of fresh and exhaust air systems and increases efficiency by up to 75%.
The Xchange modules can be applied to the following environments:
• Offices
• Hospitals
• Nursing Homes
• Apartment Complexes
• Schools
• Hotels
• Gymnasiums

Indirect Evaporative Cooling Units
IDEC Series 1 and 2
Indirect Evaporative Cooling Systems are designed to pre-cool fresh air in drier climates, especially where there is a need for large amounts of fresh air.
Using sensible heat exchangers a substantial reduction in temperature can be achieved without increasing moisture content normally associated with evaporative cooling. These units are very economical to run, using water instead of the refrigeration cycle to reduce the temperature. These systems are simple, effective, and economical and most importantly help reduce carbon emissions.
Armcor Air Solutions™ manufactures these units with renowned Celdeck pads, sensible aluminium heat exchange plates and multiple direct drive fans up to 3000 L/sec. Larger units up to 10,000 L/sec can be built including options on all models for VSD Plug Fans with EC motors, chilled and hot water cooling coils.

Ductwork Design
1. Heating Airconditioning Load
The following check figures represent heating and cooling capacities for various states in Australia. This is an installer check but makes no attempt to cover all possibilities for glass, insulation and weather conditions.
For example, an office building in Melbourne Area 200m² x 130 watts/m² = 26,000 Watts = 26kw Capacity Unit Required.
2. BCA Insulation Requirements for Ductwork
The following table provides a simplified summary of BCA 2010 vol J.5.2. Please contact the BCA for the current regulations.
3. New 2011 BCA Code Section J
4. Guidelines on Ductwork and Grille Sizing
Charts are recommended based on years of experience and represent an accurate guide only. Size your ductwork correctly and you will achieve a quieter, more efficient heating or cooling system.
5. Airflow Calculator for Sheetmetal Ductwork
This chart gives airflow rates in L/sec with 6.0m/sec velocity. This provides a quick check of the airflow.

Flange Capping
Flange Capping is used to create a weatherproof cover to exposed flanges preventing water damage inside the ductwork. Free template with each order to assist in cutting corners. Quick easy and neat to fabricate.
Cushion Boxes
Side entry diffuser boxes general have a much lower pressure than top entry diffuser boxes. While top is satisfactory, if the flexible ductwork is support and makes a gentle radius (1.5 times duct diameter). However if the flexible ductwork is left unsupported it will kink when connected to the diffuser adding significantly to the pressure loss. Side entry boxes also improve air distribution.

Supply Air and Return Air Design Recommendations
• If a unit is supplied with specific size duct spigots, do not use ducting of a smaller size. If the duct run is more than 3 metres, we recommend using the next size up.
• To change the existing number of outlets on a low profile unit, the cross sectional area of the new outlets must be equal to or greater than the original outlet. It must not be less.
• Do not blank off an outlet at the spigot plate
• Avoid short outlet plenum boxes with size outlets close to the unit. This type of plenum generates high pressure loses, turbulence and noise. Longer plenums with side outlets away from the unit or short plenums with front outlets are better.

A vacuum pump must be capable of pulling a vacuum of at least 92.7 Hg or 100.59 kPa to boil off moisture in the complete system under all ambient conditions.
If the vacuum pump cannot pull a sufficient vacuum to ‘boil off’ the moisture then it is of no value to leave a system under vacuum for an extended time.
It is of upmost importance that the quality and quantity of oil in the vacuum pump is maintained at all times.
Vacuum Pump Fittings
For faster economical vacuum try our Vacuum Hose set with 3/8” x 900 long Vacuum Hose with 5/16” adaptor for R410A, two adaptors to suit 1/4” manifold and no core depressors for full flow.
