Things are drastically changing here at Family and MWR Sports, Fitness and Aquatics (SFA). The physical fitness centers (PFC) are opening up with precautions for the safety of all patrons who walk through the doors.
As things start to slowly go back to normal, SFA has worked to bring back some of the favorite fitness classes and sports for the summer!
Fort Bliss Fitness has you covered with Dance Glow Party, July 10 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Soto PFC. This is a 75 minute dance fitness party to get you back into the groove of things! This is open to Active-Duty, Family Members, DoD/DA Civilians, Retirees, and DoD ID cardholders, ages 18 and older. The cost is $10 per person.
The celebration keeps on coming with Outdoor Deadlift Party Aug. 21 at Logan Heights PFC. Patrons in their designated weight class will perform the hex bar deadlift. They must lift the minimum weight designated for their weight class. The winner is determined on the heaviest weight lifted in the weight class. This event is only $20 per person, registration is happening now until Aug. 18! So don’t wait!
With just two celebrations happening, SFA will also pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 by climbing the equivalent of 110 stories, similar to the towering buildings of the World Trade Center. Throughout the day starting at 9 a.m., for 25-minutes, participants will use stationary stair steppers to symbolically help the fallen complete their heroic journey to save others. The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is $10 to participate, registration will begin Aug. 27 through Sept. 11. Did you think the fit fun stops there? No way! Fort Bliss SFA has more to offer during the summer months. Back in May, Biggs PFC hosted the Army Ten Miler. Well, July 24, they will be hosting the Ten Miler Qualifier. It’s open to Active-Duty Soldiers only, this is a timed competitive event for service men and women to run and qualify for the Fort Bliss Army Ten Miler team. Of course, summer isn’t fun without the Commander’s Cup sports! There will be Soccer Aug. 9 to Oct. 21, Flag Football, Aug. 16 to Oct. 28, 10K Race, Aug. 27 and Swim meet, Sept. 14 to 16. This is a free unit organized intramural sports league that promotes Soldier morale, unit cohesion and esprit de corps, by providing friendly and healthy competition between service members across the Fort Bliss military community. Commander’s Cup competitions will be held at Stout PFC Track and Field, Aquatics Training Center (ATC), Finney Field or Omar Bradley Sport Complex. You asked and Fort Bliss SFA answered … coming Sept. 10 through Nov. 6 Women’s Softball League returns! It’s open to DoD ID cardholders, ages 18 and older. If you’re Active-Duty, Family member, in the Reserves or Guard assigned or attached to Fort Bliss, put a team together and sign up! The cost is $200 per team. Get ready for these competitions, because the days are going by fast! Registration will done at Soto PFC for any group fitness classes or sport events.
