Entering Grades 1–6 Summer just wouldn’t be the same without the excitement and adventure of the YMCA Day Camp program. For nearly 30 years, central Ohio children have come together for a summer full of nature, water fun, games, cookouts, arts & crafts, and new friendships! In 2009, the spirit and tradition of YMCA Day Camp continues!
SPORTS CAMPS AND CLINICS Entering Grades 1–6 Just the camp for those who enjoy sports! Don’t miss a single week as you enjoy different, weekly sports themes. Campers will be divided by age and will experience age-appropriate training in the technical, fundamental and game situation aspects of each sport. These fun-filled camps will also allow campers to participate in other activities such as sports challenges, crafts, cookouts, guest presenters, contests, and group building activities. SPECIALY CAMPS Entering Grades 1–10 (varies with specific camps) The YMCA of Central Ohio is pleased to offer a wide variety of specialty camps for campers of all ages. With a full range of activities, your young camper can do it all, under the careful supervision of our highly trained camp staff. More activities mean more fun!

WEEKLY THEMES The weekly Day Camp themes help the camps create an atmosphere of fun and learning at the same time. The themes guide the weekly activities like arts and crafts, nature activities, games, contests, team-building games, speakers and field trips. (Please note that the mix of specific activities for each theme varies by camp.) Week Zero –Refer to camp of choice, June 8-12 Week 1 – Animal Antics, June 15-19 Love all things animals? This week is just for you! Go wild while staying close to home and learn about animals near and far. Plan to be surprised by what you learn by the end of this week. Week 2 – Y Go Green!, June 22-26 Learn cool ways to save our Earth then share those ideas with your friends and family! This week will feature eco-hikes, recycling games & activities, and tons of fun while your camp goes green. Week 3 – Buckeye Mania, June 29-July 3 OH – IO! Campers will learn about the spirit, history, and tradition of living in the Buckeye State. By the end of the week each camper will yell out OH - IO with pride. Week 4 – Ooey Gooey and Slimey Too, July 6-July 10 Get ready for a wacky week of icky, sticky, silly stuff that you create and take home. This isn’t for the light hearted; it goes way past your school science project! Come dressed to get dirty. Week 5 – The Air Up There!, July 13-July 17 3, 2, 1, Blast off in a week of exploring adventure! Go wild discovering space, our atmosphere, and other sky-bound adventures while your feet never leave the ground! Week 6 – Gamesapalooza, July 20-24

A week full of games and activities that focus on having fun, developing sportsmanship, and learning to be a team player. You’ll enjoy new games ranging from tag to Ultimate Frisbee. Week 7, Splish Splash, July 27-July 31 Splishin’ and splashin’ all while laughin’. It’s time to get wet through water balloon games, sprinklers, slip-n-slides, and so much more of everything water related. Week 8 – Mysteries, Maps, and Riddles, August 3-7 Can you figure it out? What’s that? Who did it? Where are we? Become a detective, discover new places, and have fun with friends in a traditional camp setting. Week 9 – Spirit Week, August 10-14 It’s time to meet and compete with all your fellow YMCA campers from across Central Ohio! Teams will create banners, songs, cheers, and mascots to promote their camp pride and represent their camp at the Hoover Y-Park for a day of grand fun with loads of other kids. Week 10 – Camp Rewind, August 17-21 Did you love all of the water games during Splish Splash week? Did you want to be Ooey, Gooey and Slimey just one more time this summer? Do you want to scream OH-IO one more time? Then you’re in luck. We’re spending the week of camp revisiting all of our favorite activities and games as we put the entire summer on rewind! 5

It is the perfect setting for an exciting summer in the great outdoors. Clay Creators Entering Grades 1-6 9:00 am-3:30pm (Weeks 2 & 3) Dive into clay! Campers will learn clay’s origins as we dig native clay from the Big Walnut Creek. Through use of the potter’s wheel, handbuilding, and glazing you will create your work of art! This camp includes an overnight in Right Angle Cabin on July 2. If you’re looking for something new and creative this year, check out our Specialty Camps! Campers from both the Liberty Township/Powell and North YMCAs will participate in specialty themed and traditional camp activities each day. No prior experience is required for any of these exciting camps.
Metro—$122/week Program—$142/week Before and After Camp Care offered off-site (No Specialty Camps during Week 10.) Week 1 & 4 - Tennis Week Campers will learn strokes such as; fore hand, back hand, volley, lobe, smash and serve. This week is open to all campers in beginner to immediate levels. Tennis Week is not progressive. Each camper must bring their own racquet and balls each day. *No camp on Friday, July 3, 2009. Week 2 - Artists’ Studio Create your own masterpieces through drawing, painting and sculpture. No experience necessary - just a love for all things art! Week 3 - Mad Scientist This week is a fantastic array of wacky science experiments and activities for the science lover in every kid! Week 5 - From the page to the stage! It’s time to get creative. Campers will experience drama and music by writing their own plays and skits, using music to add movements and dance to their masterpiece. No experience required - just lots of energy and creativity needed. Campers will end the week with a performance for all. Bring your musical instruments is you wish.
Week 6 - Under Construction Put your hard hats on! Get ready to hammer, sand, paint and stain your own special creations that you build (with help of course)! No experience necessary. Week 7 - Adventures in Flight It’s high flying fun as we learn about things that fly, how they fly and then make our own flying creations. Watch out – this week could get crazy! Week 8 - Into the Wilderness Have fun outdoors while you learn the basics of outdoor living and safety through cooking, shelter construction, fire building and orienteering. Week 9 - Creative Cooking Calling all future chefs! Come to camp for a week full of fun and kid-friendly recipes that you will make. Some materials required – parents will be informed 1 week prior to cooking week. Week 10 - NO SPECIALTY CAMP

in the UniverSity DiStriCt Ages 5-12 Held at the Indianola Church of Christ in the heart of the University District, this state-licensed program provides Enrichment Care for school age children during the summer. Registration packets will be available at the North YMCA beginning in April. This program follows the Columbus Public Schools schedule. Must have completed kindergarten to attend. 18

SUMMER ENRICHMENT CARE Ages 5-12 Pickaway County YMCA Child Care summer program is a state licensed program. We offer a variety of activities including arts and crafts, swimming, sports and games, special events/guest speakers, field trips, and much more. Our program promotes a warm, caring environment which focuses on the four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We do weekly trips to the local park and participate in their free Friday In The Park days. Our weekly activities and events are based on themes and we incorporate the YMCA Philosophy and Core Values. Children are grouped by age and development. Part of your child’s day is spent outside, except in inclement weather.
TEEN CAMP Ages 11–15
8:30am–3:30pm Pickaway County YMCA Teen Camp is a state licensed program for teens ages 11-15. Each day we offer a variety of activities including arts and crafts, cooking/baking, strength conditioning, sports and games, special events/guest speakers, field trips and much more. At least once a week, teen campers will volunteer their time doing a community service project. Over the course of the summer, teens will take numerous field trips relating to the theme of that week. For half a day, each day of the week participants will go in-depth learning a variety of skills in various sports and specialty clinics.
