WEAVEWAVE parts from the principle of algorithmic growth in nature, which features material economy, structural performance and aesthetic coherence. Its name suggests both a fabrication technique, which organizes its topological configuration in order to evenly distribute forces, and a beautiful natural phenomenon which results from the harmonic disturbance of a medium, in this project manifested as a continuous flow of parameters which deploy to generate stability through differentiation.
ELYTRA FILAMENT PAVILION

Description V&A ENGINEERING SEASON 10 2014
Date
ICD Institute for Computational Design + ITKE Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design, Stuttgart + Victoria & Albert Museum, London
Collaboration in the competition phase. The installation demonstrates how architectural design can unfold from a synergy of structural engineering, environmental engineering and production engineering, resulting in unique spatial and aesthetic qualities. The pavilion constitutes a dynamic space and an evolving structure: the cellular canopy grows from an onsite fabrication nucleus, and it does so in response to patterns of inhabitation of the garden over time, driven by real time sensing data.
