Spanish Music
Manuel de Falla is our most celebrated composer. He was born in Cádiz in 1876 and died in Argentina in 1946. His most important contribution to twentieth century music is his “Concerto for clavichord and five instruments”. Here is a sample of his music, a piece called Spanish Dance
Potato omelette. Ingredients for 3 people: Half a kilo of potatoes. Half a medium size onion. 3 eggs. One quarter litre of olive oil Salt This is one of the most famous Spanish recipe.
Cooking instructions “omelette”
Peel and dice the potatoes and the onion. Add a pinch of salt. Heat some oil in a frying pan. Fry the diced potatoes and onion. Meanwhile beat the eggs. When the potatoes are fried, decant excess oil. Mix it with beaten eggs thoroughly. Put the mixture back in the pan and cook untill a thick consistency is reached.
A famous person: Rafael Moneo architect.
Rafael Moneo was born in Tudela, Navarra. He is a worldwide renowned architect. In 1994 he was given the “Laura ad Honorem” mark by la Scola D´Architettura di Venezia . In 1998 he won the Feltrinelli price by L’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome
Spanish famous book: “Don Quixote de la Mancha”
“Don Quixote” was written by Miguel de Cervantes in 1605. Don Quixote was a knight who aimed to defend the poor and to fight the wicked. His faithful companion’s name was Sancho Panza (“panza” means big belly).
