ACTION CANCER EAST BELFAST GROUP CELEBRATE SUCCESS Members of the East Belfast Action Cancer Support group are delighted to announce that they have raised a massive £9,922 for the charity since the beginning of April. The group which formed in 2014 has worked tirelessly over the past seven months holding a cinema event and numerous collections in East Belfast. Last year the Action Cancer screened a record 10,079 women for breast cancer detecting 62 cancers and providing peace of mind for thousands of women. £9,922 will enable the charity to provide 124 mammograms to women aged 40 -49 and 70+ who fall outside the NHS screening range (50-70). Action Cancer also provide therapeutic support in the form of counselling and complementary therapy to those living with cancer or supporting a loved one with their diagnosis and this is available to both adults and children from age 5. A peer mentoring service is also available for people dealing with their diagnosis. In addition, the charity have an excellent Health Promotion programme providing education and awareness on how to minimise the risk of cancer through practical health and lifestyle choices and M.O.T. health checks. All of these services are available from Action Cancer House in Belfast and regionally in selected venues across the country. Breast screening and health checks are available regionally on the Action Cancer Big Bus, supported by Supervalu and its independent retailers. The charity receives no government funding so relies entirely on the support from the Northern Ireland Public. All The money is raised locally and re-invested locally. Action Cancer’s Local Group Support Officer Leigh Chamberlain commented “We are delighted to receive this amazing amount of money from the volunteers of East Belfast. The Group was formed just over a year ago and has exceeded all expectations, to raise nearly £10,000 in the area is just amazing. I would like to thank everyone in the area who supported us by donating to any of the recent collections in Connswater or B&M and to all the shops who have placed a collection box in their premises. I would also like to thank the East Side Arts Festival for nominating Action Cancer as the charity for this years festival and allowing us to collect at various festival events. £940.52 alone was collected at the Van Morrison concert on Cyprus Avenue on 31st August. The East Belfast Action Cancer Support Group is always looking for new members or people to help with collections. If you would like to get involved and help your leading local cancer charity get in contact on 028 9080 3369 or community@actioncancer.org

ICT EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2016 - ASHFIELD GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL Schools from around Northern Ireland were invited to apply for the Capita and C2K ICT Excellence Awards 2016. Ashfield were delighted to be awarded Runners Up in Category 1 ‘Transforming Teaching & Learning Through Technology’, at the inaugural Inspire Conference on Tuesday 17th November, at the impressive Titanic building. The awards celebrate innovative and collaborative use of technology in schools and the positive impact on students. Our communication with parents, our innovation with iPads and the positive impact technology has had on teaching and learning and attendance were commended by the panel of judges.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE LAUNCHES NEW SERVICE FOR OLDER PEOPLE CREATING 200 JOBS Northern Ireland’s leading social enterprise, Bryson Charitable Group, has announced an investment of £90,000 and the creation of 200 new jobs, as it launches the new One2One service through Bryson Care. The new, privately funded, paid-for service will provide home support for those caring for older people. This new service demonstrates Bryson’s ongoing commitment to tackling major social and economic challenges. Bryson’s latest initiative will offer services that include support with shopping, chaperoning to appointments, befriending, respite, light housework and meal preparation, to name but a few. The new initiative is in response to the Review of Health and Social Care in NI in 2011, which set out plans for greater community involvement in the care of older people. Up until recently, such services were funded by the respective Health Trusts, which have now been reduced or stop altogether. The new One2One service has employed 20 staff to date, with 180 paid-for care roles to be filled over the next 18 months across Northern Ireland, with the aim of assisting up to 3,500 elderly people in that time. A major driver for introducing the new service was in part due to the result of research carried out by post-graduate students at Ulster University Business School (UUBS). Following the NHS budget cuts, a group of 25 mature students were asked by board members of Bryson Care, to research the viability of such a service to serve the ageing Northern Ireland population. As Jo Marley, Director, Bryson Care explained: “Following the review of Health and Social Care, which set out plans for greater community involvement in the care of older people as close to the home as possible, we set about exploring the need for a private service offered by Bryson. The new service launches amid reports that one million elderly people across Britain live on their own and 500,000 of them are expected to spend this Christmas Day alone. Just last month the outgoing Commissioner for Older People in Northern Ireland, Claire Keatinge, told the BBC that home care services across Northern Ireland's five health trusts were at breaking point - that care being provided is failing to meet older people's needs due to underinvestment. For further information on Bryson Care One2One, phone 028 9034 7731 or visit www.brysonone2one.org

PRIMARY SCHOOLS BENEFIT FROM $10,000 BURSARY FUNDING FROM IRISH AMERICAN PARTNERSHIP Two Belfast primary schools have been awarded a $5,000 bursary from the Irish American Partnership (IAP) after benefiting from a similar award from the IAP earlier in the year. Lord Mayor Arder Carson visited St Kieran’s PS in Poleglass and Elmgrove PS on the Beersbridge Road in east Belfast to present the schools’ Principals with their cheques after he helped secure the funding during a sister city trip to Boston and a meeting with the IAP this year. This is the second time the two schools have received bursary funding from the Irish American Partnership. They each received a $5000 bursary in June. The Irish American Partnership was founded in Ireland by business, political and education leaders and funded by the Irish Parliament in 1987. Today it has 400 supporters in the United States with donors that support education, community and job creation programmes. Councillor Carson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to present St Kieran’s and Elmgrove Primary Schools with additional bursary funding from the Irish American Partnership and see for myself through a special tour of the schools how they will use their awards. “The securing of the funding is a tangible outcome of our Sister City Agreement and links with Boston – a strand of which nurtures educational partnerships and exchanges with schools. The bursaries will benefit the children in these two primary schools making a difference to their communities.” Jayne Jeffers, Principal of Elmgrove PS, said: “On behalf of the governors, staff and pupils from Elmgrove, I want to express our delight and gratitude to the Irish American Partnership and the Lord Mayor for this very generous bursary. “Within the school we have invested in a bespoke counselling service which provides support to children experiencing difficulties and promotes their emotional well-being, thus improving their ability to study and learn. The bursary will enable us to enhance and extend our current provision and we are grateful for this opportunity to welcome the Lord Mayor to our school so that he can see for himself the difference this funding will make.” Belfast City Council entered in to a Sister City Agreement with Boston in May 2014 to explore academic, business and cultural links between the two cities. As part of the agreement, the Friendship Four NCAA Ice Hockey Tournament will also take place at the SSE Arena next week. Teams from four universities in Boston – Umass Lowell, Northeastern, Brown and Colgate will compete against one another for the Belpot Trophy. A landmark event, this is the first time the games will be played outside the US. For more information, visit www.friendshipfour.com

BELFAST MUMMY’S ACHIEVE A UK FIRST! These inspiring parents are the first in the UK to graduate As Parents Academy ‘Lay Family Learning Advisors’. Seventeen candidates undertook and successfully completed a pilot of the brand new course between April and June 2015. OPERATION SEARCH FOR SANTA BEGINS IN BALLYHACKAMORE! Ballyhackamore Business Association has always taken Christmas seriously, and this year is no exception. Engaging the irrepressible talents of Young at Art, Northern Ireland’s leading arts organisation for children and young people, and supported by Belfast City Council through the Retail Action Plan, this year Christmas is turning into a hunt for Santa. That's right Santa has been kidnapped! The 'Nearly True' Christmas Tour is an exciting walking tour around the village of Ballyhackamore, where no stone will be left unturned in the search for Santa. The hour-long tour will be running every Saturday from 28 November to 19 December and further tours will be held on Monday 21, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 December to ensure that Santa is found before December 25! There will be three tours each day beginning at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and are currently available to buy from Greens Pizza in Ballyhackamore. These are priced at £12 per child and £8 per adult and this will include a gift and a photo with Santa. Ricky Armstrong, Vice Chairperson, from Ballyhackamore Business Association says: "We were looking for an alternative to this year’s festive activity and we really wanted to engage with the local children and their families. So, if you want an alternative to visiting Santa in his grotto, then we feel this is the answer. It’s sure to get all the kids, and we are pretty sure all the adults too, excited about Christmas." We will also be running our artisan food and craft markets in the run up to Christmas on 21 November and 19 December for all your Christmas gifts. We’ll be moving it indoors, so you’ll have time to browse, without worrying about the winter elements. The artisan food and craft market will continue to run on the third Saturday of each month from 10am to 2pm (21 November and Saturday 19 December). For more information on the Santa Tour go to www.facebook.com/ballyhackamore.business. BLOOMING SUCCESS FOR EAST BELFAST RESIDENTS People living at two East Belfast housing developments are celebrating first place wins in a Northern Ireland wide gardening competition run by local housing association, Clanmil Housing Group. The gardens at Mullan Mews supported housing for older people with dementia in the Woodstock area have been named best newcomer in the Clanmil in Bloom competition, while those at Linen Court and Gardens family housing in Woodcot Avenue were named best overall family development. Clanmil in Bloom is an annual competition run by Clanmil to acknowledge and reward those tenants who take a keen interest in keeping the green spaces around their homes looking the very best they can. It gives tenants with green fingers and a passion for gardening a chance to showcase their handiwork. Tenants from both schemes were presented with their awards by Cherrie McIlwaine, host of BBC Radio Ulster’s Gardeners’ Corner, at a celebration event in Belfast Castle. The event provided an opportunity to highlight all of the hard work that goes into making the gardens at Clanmil’s housing schemes look first class. As a prize for maintaining the best kept gardens, tenants at both housing schemes were rewarded with £200 worth of spring/summer flowering bulbs and plants, which will help add more colour and blooms for them to enjoy next summer.

LOCAL ESTATE AGENTS KEEP HOMELESS WARM James Duggan Estates are giving local homeless people a helping hand this winter by teaming up with charity, the East Belfast Mission’s Hosford Project, and providing a winter warmth pack every time a customer completes on a new home. The Hosford Project aims to provide accommodation to those facing homelessness, but only has 26 apartments at any one time, sadly there are those that there is simply no room for. At present, there are 5,000 homeless in Belfast each year. Many of these people will find temporary accommodation in hostels. However some will not and there has been an increase in rough sleeping in the past year. Last year Hosford received 1000 referral from people looking for a bed. Sadly they could only accommodate 60 of those people, with the nights getting colder it is now much harder for those in need. James Duggan’s winter warmth pack will be given to those who face a night on the streets until suitable accommodation can be found. Each pack consists of a cosy fleece blanket, socks, hat, gloves and a £5 voucher for local chip shop, the Fryer Tuck on Belfast’s Bloomfield Road. James Duggan says of the initiative - “We are passionate about supporting our local community and wanted to do something that would make a real impact. Every day we see happy smiling faces as our customers move into their new home, but that’s sadly not the case for many others, the Hosford project is a fabulous charity that actively changes the lives of those that it sets out to help, we wanted to be a part of that. The first stage of our involvement is to provide our winter warmth packs and down the line, we will be helping those in need get back on their feet by donating home basics that many of us take for granted, such as kettles and toasters.” Aidan Byrne, Hosford Project Manager is delighted with the support - “It’s wonderful to see this local business addressing the needs of our community and we are extremely appreciative of James Duggan’s support, especially as winter sets in and the nights get colder. We have seen a consistent increase in those experiencing homelessness and the only way we can deal with this as a society is if we work together.” James Duggan Estates was established in September of 2015 and anticipates completing on approximately twenty homes between now and the end of January. Formerly Century 21, the family run business boasts 25 year of experience in the property market. The father and son duo pride themselves on bringing a unique approach to selling property by offering, Sales, Lettings, expert Property Management, Mortgage and Insurance Services, a recommended panel of solicitors, surveyors and advice on energy performance certificates (EPC's), all under one roof - your one stop shop for all your property requirements. COFFEE HUBS BREWING UP BUSINESS FOR ORANGE HERITAGE Two coffee shops have opened at Northern Ireland’s newest museums, resulting in the creation of seven jobs. The independently run establishments, located at the Museums of Orange Heritage in Belfast and Loughgall, offer a range of hot beverages, sandwiches and pastries for visitors and members of the public, as well as providing a contemporary feel to both buildings as part of the major outreach project. The appropriately named Piccolo café, situated on the Cregagh Road, takes its title from the Italian pronounciation of the popular baby latte. The espresso bar is managed by Suzanne Stewart. She said: “We are delighted to offer a new social hub in east Belfast where visitors to the museum at Schomberg House, and the wider public, can take a break and unwind. Our complimentary wi-fi also allows customers to keep up-to-date with the latest news and goings-on while enjoying a cup of their favourite tea or coffee.” The Museums of Orange Heritage, which both opened earlier this year, are part of the REACH Project (Reaching out through Education and Cultural Heritage) which received £3.6 million from the EU’s PEACE III Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. The new interpretative centre at the Orange Institution’s headquarters in Belfast displays a wealth of items and artefacts relating to the history of Orangeism across the world. The state-of-the-art building contains a lecture theatre and interactive educational space, with particular access for school and cross-community focused visits. The development also includes a replica lodge room, a research facility and shop space. Both facilities aim to promote shared space and greater levels of reconciliation through education.

TONIC HEALTH & WELLNESS FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS A FESTIVAL celebrating health and wellbeing took place in Belfast last month. Organised by sound therapist Tessa Greer, the first TONIC Health & Wellness Festival at T13 in the Titanic Quarter featured a range of health and wellbeing exhibitors, practitioners, workshops and talks. From highlighting a range of health and wellness options on offer for individuals and families from all walks of life and offering a selection of nutritious healthy food and drink options to giving visitors free trials of a range of complementary therapies, the event is set to welcome a whole host of people and exhibitors to T13. Tessa Greer, who is a sound therapist with her own company The Sound Healing Spa, said: “Putting the TONIC Health & Wellness Festival together allowed me to pull together my personal and working experience of this industry so far, the people who contribute to this industry and my previous experience of working on and organising festivals and events. “The response has been fantastic and as a result we're planning a much bigger event at the end of Spring 2016."

THE MARKET @ BALLYHACKAMORE The Market at Ballyhackamore has now been running since August 2015. It happens on the third Saturday of every month in the grounds of St. Colmcilles Parish. The Market is an initiative of the Ballyhackamore Business Association, supported by local churches, and as such it is a social enterprise, a venture to increase footfall in the village and to boost the local economy. All money generated by the market goes straight back into the local community. Ballyhackamore is an exciting place to be these days, bustling with an array of bars, restaurants and cafes it has lots to offer. The Market brings products to the village that are not normally available and that compliment those which are already on offer. There is a huge range of gourmet food and handmade crafts, including jewellery, textiles, candles and beauty products from skilled artisan producers – all from Northern Ireland. It helps to showcase local family businesses such as Leggygowan Farm, producing blue goats cheese and Broughgammon Farm in Ballymoney who sell sustainably farmed meats such as venison, goat and wild game, different in nature to what is on offer up the road in Corries Meats. Ballyhackamore Business Association is all about encouraging people to buy local and bringing something special to the village. Why not come down and enjoy the atmosphere whilst sampling some of the best artisan crafts and foods that the Province has to offer!

The next market is on Saturday, 19th December from 10am until 4pm. For more information go to www.facebook.com/ballyhackamore.business

EXPERT Staying Festive Fit

HEAD TO TOE HEALTH WITH

PHYSIOWORKS NI

PhysioWorksNI is a leading Physiotherapy, Sports Injury Clinic and Pilates Centre based in Gilnahirk, Belfast. Established in 2002 it offers high quality treatment to ease pain, recover from injury and help maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. As we come into the festive season our lives become increasingly busy. All our preparations, shopping and nights out add to the stresses and strains on our bodies.

with PhysioWorksNI

Here’s some useful tips on keeping your body festive fit and ready for the big day. 1. When laden with shopping bags remember to keep your shoulders back. This will help to prevent strain to your neck and shoulders.

3. When out shopping make sure your footwear is comfortable. For us ladies make sure your heels are not too high to keep the strain off your back. Keep your “car to bar shoes” for your nights out!

2. Try some spinal extensions. This is a great exercise to help ease out a stiff lower back. Lie on your stomach and using your hands push up to extend your spine. Hold for a few seconds and release back down. If this exercise causes pain do not continue and contact your local Physiotherapist.

4. After shopping or after wearing your party shoes, use a spikey ball to help massage out tired, tight feet. Just spending 2 minutes on each foot will leave your feet feeling fantastic!

5. Drink plenty of water. Keeping hydrated keeps our energy levels high and our muscles more supple.

A Belfast Mum Donn a Bell

There's been a LOT of talk about presents in our house over the last month. There was one week in November where my daughter was invited to 5 birthday parties, so I had a lot of additional present buying to sort out. At four years old, she still thought that she should get a present when her friends got one. "But Mummy, I don't have a Cinderella doll/Elsa nightdress/pet kitty cat/Sofia carriage etc etc". It took a while, but eventually we convinced her that it was her friends who got presents for their parties, not her. But then there's the adverts, cunningly placed in between all her favourite TV programmes in the run up to Christmas. I was told she absolutely NEEDED another Elsa doll which would shoot ice crystals from her hand, or the Barbie that jumped up on its horse, or the Miles from Tomorrow space cruiser. It was incessant. And it didn't sit well with me.

So I sat her down and I showed her some carefully chosen pictures of some of the Syrian refugee children, sleeping on their coats in the middle of muddy camps, or on forest floors with only a cardboard box to cover them. We talked about how and why they were there. We watched Children in Need and I told her that some children in this country didn't have any dollies or dress-up clothes. We went through her toy boxes and she offered up some things that the 'children with no toys' could have, and she agreed that Santa could give some of her presents this year to the children who'd had to leave their homes because it was too scary to stay there. She hasn't quite stopped asking for everything under the sun, but at least now she wants to give a little too.

Merry Christmas.

Excitment Builds for arriving 17th decmber 2015 I was very small in 1977 when Star Wars first came out, but my overriding memory is seeing pictures of my sister with Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers outside the Odeon Leicester Square at the film's premiere during a visit to London! However, this did not ignite my interest in the films, in fact that came much much later. In the interim I would have said that it really wasn't my thing, had no real interest. That was until UTV showed them over a series of wintery Saturday afternoons - from then I was hooked and am now a massive fan! 'Return of the Jedi' is still my favourite and 'Boba Fett' is my favourite character. The latest film will be a highlight in December and the tickets are already booked! I could go on but I didn't want to monopolise this particular piece. So this month I decided to ask some of our younger 'Bloom' readers what they were most looking forward to about December! Here's what they said unanimously in reverse order of preference: Christmas, school holidays, selection boxes, the pantomime and in first place - the release of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'! I then asked them on a scale of 1-10 how excited they were about seeing it - 1 being 'I'm not that bothered' and 10 being 'I have never been more excited about anything ever'.

PERSONAL TRAINING

THE BENEFITS! Hi my name is Colin Barnes and I am one of the experienced Personal Trainers at I Work Out. Here are my 5 TOP BENEFITS of personal training: 1: Accountability and Motivation: Trainers are great at holding you accountable for your own actions, each week you will have a set appointment where you will show up for your one on one time with your trainer, this is your time and no one else’s. Your trainer will help you develop your individual goals and help you develop a realistic and achievable plan to attain these goals. You should come out of each session with the feeling of accomplishment and success. 2: Solid consistent non-judgemental support: Your trainer will care about you and your success; they will provide you with consistent feedback to help you move towards to your goals. A trainer should never make you feel inadequate or judged. They will point out all your successes big or small driving you in the right direction. 3: Proper technique and form: It is very easy to hurt yourself in the gym. Trainers pay attention to your body and make sure you are preforming each exercise correctly. We can help you improve your posture, increase your strength, help with your flexibility, increase your mobility and really help you make that mind to body connection. 4: Personalised programme: Personal training is just that, it is personal for a reason. A trainer will develop a programme that is specific to you and your goals. 5: Results: As a trainer I work very hard with my clients to develop their goals and push them down the road of success. Many clients gain results that they had never even anticipated. It’s about changing little things each week that all add up to the bigger picture which is a happier, healthier YOU.

Personal Training packages can make a great Christmas Gift! To get in touch please contact Colin Barnes - colinbarnes3@gmail.com

Home Styling & Decor News

Dekko Bird

As you dust off those old baubles and garlands from Christmas Past, have you considered your decor ‘theme’ for this year? A little forethought will ensure your festive home decor looks elegant, classy and pulled together. So, rather than settling for a crazy mish-mash of tinsel and glitter, pick a theme or seasonal colour that appeals to you and will work well in your home - here are some key looks around this Christmas to help inspire you…

Winter Wonderland

Nordic Homespun

Think snowy forests of Narnia and you’re onto the right track. This look is centred around a minimalistic palette of winter whites and cream accented by sparkling glints of gold, silver and glass. Layer up wool blankets and fur throws with plush cushions adorned with shiny sequins, silver beads and prints of arctic animals. Keep tree decor simple with baubles of clear glass and silver, white ceramic stars and glittering snowflakes, set off by bright white fairy lights. Warm up the ambience with plenty of candles flickering in smoked glass and metallic holders.

My personal favourite, this trend taps into everything Scandi and über cool, yet with a warming handcrafted feel. This look will work for you if you have a fairly neutral interior already. Create a rustic, alpine look with a white, red and grey colour scheme accessorised with reindeer felt cushions, fairisle knits, handmade decorations and embroidered quilts. Fill baskets with pinecones, hang wreaths of ivy and winter berries, dress your tree with simple felt hearts and twinkling lights, and infuse your home with scents of gingerbread and spice to complete the effect.

Try BHS or Homebase for tableware and decorations to complement this look.

Ikea is the obvious choice for this style with its fantastic range of homely decorations, but also try Next for its nordic inspired collection.

Heritage This look is for the traditionalists amongst you. Create that quintessential country retreat this Christmas with plenty of tartan, tweed and wool soft furnishings set within that elegant and timeless colour trio of red, gold and green. Anything woodland themed blends well into this classic setting, too, so mix in cushions adorned with hares or robins, mount a wooden stag head over the mantelpiece and adorn your tree with vintage baubles and gold ribbons. Try Sainsbury’s for cosy tartan blankets and heritage inspired decor.

Did you know that hats are the new handbags? No question hats are this season’s most wanted accessories! And with winter temperatures forecasted to reach record lows in January/February it sounds like we’ll all need one alright… Hats come in an array of shapes & colours but there are 2 key styles this winter: you have the felt floppy hat for a cool boho 70’s look and there’s of course the iconic fur pompom hat for a snugly look & feel. Fur pompom hats can be in a wool mix or cashmere and faux fur or racoon & fox. But why having faux fur when you could have the real thing! And finally if you’re worried about your hair being flat after wearing a hat, there’s a simple answer to that one “keep your hat on and don’t take it off!” Joyeux Noel from SPLASH

(stockist of a beautiful range of fur pompom hats of course!)

The Nearly True Christmas Tour Experience There are many great things I love about running 'Bloom' magazine but the main two have to be meeting all the residents and business owners who keep me up to date with all the fantastic things that are happening around this wee hub of ours. In the last edition of 'Bloom' I hope you noticed just how many events that were planned for the run up to the festive season from artisan markets to fundraising events, there was so much to choose from! However, as the date approaches, most of us are turning our attention to getting ready for Christmas, thinking about getting the decorations down, starting some shopping and managing the excitement of the arrival of The Big Man himself! In my day we were taken to a shopping centre, plonked on the bearded one's knee, painted on our best smile and hopped off to get our pressie! However, like most things for children now, the game has been well and truly upped! Each year we tend to look for something bigger and better for them to experience, and the Santa visit is no exception. This year we decided to try the 'Nearly True Christmas Tour' at Ballyhackamore. I didn't really know what to expect when I read the flyer and so decided just to give it a go because it was entirely different to anything we had experienced before! We are very glad we did! As a brief synopsis - the elves lead us through Ballyhackamore, past all the familiar places, from Greens Pizzeria, past the beautiful Kirkpatrick Memorial Church to the Textile Studio and so on. The cheeky elves from Young at Art made the whole thing interactive and fun by relating the Christmas story (or their special version of it) and everything we associate with it to the little tour around Ballyhackamore in general. Naturally we always have to consider the weather in our neck of the woods at this time of year but all in all it was really enjoyable and to be honest it was a refreshing change from what we have done in the past. Overall it was a fantastic effort and everyone who took part enjoyed it immensely. By the time it was over I was really feeling the Christmas spirit so managed a little Christmas shopping. in the area at the same time, meaning I got to support the event and the local traders which made for a great Saturday! All details of the Nearly True Christmas Tours can be found on the Ballyhackamore Business Association Facebook page.

Life Designer, put simply, is a paper planner for the year. Paper planners make people happy because it feels good to be organised and to plan ahead, and really satisfying to mark off your achievements along the way. All that is required is a little time each week to plan. The Life Designer paper planner is designed and produced in the UK to meet the fast growing demand for paper planners – a big trend which has taken off in the US and Australia. Paper planners are essentially yearly diaries but with personality. A quick search for paper planner on Pinterest will provide an overwhelming amount of information on the subject. The Life Designer paper planner has fundamental differences to diaries. For instance, the planner’s Week at a Glance is spread over two facing pages and comprises of a seven vertical columns - each column is then split into four sections. This allows the user to identify key areas each day that they wish to plan for along with a clear view of the week ahead.

The Life Designer also contains useful features such as: Yearly Wish List – Monthly Goal – Monthly Snapshot – Monthly Budget –

Your bucket list for the year ahead. Each month set two goals and the actions you need to achieve them. A place to put your plans for the month whether it is DIY repairs or places you want to visit. Plan your expenditure for the month ahead.

Also included are the following pages to help you get organised: Project Page, Gift Ideas, Places to Visit & Things to Do, Things to Bake & Cook, Books, Movies, Birthdays & Anniversaries, Notepaper, and Stickers. If you’re still wondering why you should use a paper planner, consider the following: Paper planners make people happy. It feels good to be organised and to plan ahead, and really satisfying to mark off your achievements along the way. All that is required is a little time each week to plan. The Life Designer is not only about being organised – it can be about journaling – as it’s big enough to be used as a keepsake for your photos, quotes and notes. The paper planner is something that you can store away and then return to them to relive a period in your life.
