A clever picture book text about the extraordinary way in which animals have evolved, intertwined with the complication of human intervention. “People built factories and burned coal to power magnificent machines. They made steam trains to take things here there and everywhere. Chimneys filled the air with smoke and soot …” Isabel Thomas is the author of over 80 books and has been shortlisted for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Awards. Annie doesn’t believe in love. She doesn’t want to become ‘boyring’ for a start, but deep down there’s a little part of her that thinks if she doesn’t get her hopes up, she won’t ever be disappointed. Annie has cerebral palsy and would hate for someone to reject her because of her disability – or worse, be with her because they felt they had to!

More than anything Mary just wants her family to stay together; for her mother and her father – and for her – to all be in the same place at once. But when her father announces that his marriage to her mother was void and by turns that Mary doesn’t really count as his child, she realises things will never be as she hoped.

Then Annie meets Fab – he’s flamboyant, energetic and a complete romantic. At first Annie can’t believe how naive he is about the world. Why can’t a kiss be just a kiss? Why is it such a big deal? But as her feelings for him grow, she doesn’t know how to convince him that she can be as sincere as he is.

Things only get worse when her father marries again. Separated from her mother and forced to work as a servant for her new sister, Mary must dig deep to find the strength to stand up against those who wish to bring her down. Despite what anyone says, she will always be a princess. She has the blood of a princess and she is ready to fight for what is rightfully hers.

Annie realises that love can make you do wild, crazy things, and so she sets out to win Fab’s heart with a romantic gesture of truly epic proportions. Fans fell in love with the warmth, wit, romance and fierce friendships in Flirty Dancing, Love Bomb, Sunkissed and Star Struck. Jenny McLachlan writes the best kind of real-life fiction. With big themes and characters you’ll love, her books go straight to your heart. ALSO AVAILABLE:

In her spare time – just like Bea, the heroine in her first novel, Flirty Dancing – Jenny loves to jive. She is based in Eastbourne.
