Bloomsbury Children's Books New Titles Catalogue July - December 2017

Page 1

Dear readers

Welcome to our catalogue of bookish delights for the second half of 2017. This is a stellar season for our fiction list, beginning in July with Kid Normal, the irresistible, warm and funny first novel from Greg James and Chris Smith. We have not one but two books from the incandescent imagination of Katherine Rundell – The Explorer is a thrilling, romantic Amazon adventure, sure to captivate readers of ten and up, and One Christmas Wish is a magical picture-book treat illustrated by the wonderful Emily Sutton. We also have a phenomenally strong YA list which includes Carnegie Medal winner Sarah Crossan’s unforgettable, provocative and immensely moving Moonrise. Look out for Orlagh Collins’ debut No Filter – a timely story of first love, heartbreak and that summer when everything changes.

Our new non-fiction list has a whole host of beautifully presented fact-packed pleasures, led by the kaleidoscopically stunning The Picture Atlas, illustrated by Jill Calder, and the spectacular Story of Tutankhamun by Patricia Cleveland-Peck, illustrated by Isabel Greenberg. For much younger readers, we are also introducing the exciting and magical world of Princess Snowbelle with five new titles across activity and colouring books and an enchanting picture book. Our picture book list continues to deliver super-talented authors and illustrators all year round. We love Lou Carter’s spirited storytelling in There Is No Dragon In This Story – matched by unbeatably funny and stylish illustrations from Deborah Allwright. Tom Percival’s Perfectly Norman is a sensitive and charming celebration of all kinds of diversity. And the combination of Ben Faulks and David Tazzyman creates the exuberantly entertaining What Makes Me A Me? – a sure-fire hit with inquisitive small people and their parents. Happy reading!

Jenny McLachlan

Sarah Crossan

The brilliant, irresistible and gorgeously romantic new novel from Jenny McLachlan, the breakout star of young, laugh-out-loud teen fiction. Perfect for fans of Louise Rennison and Holly Smale

The phenomenal new novel from Carnegie Medal winning author Sarah Crossan; poignant, thought-provoking and incredibly moving, it explores life, death, love and forgiveness

Annie doesn’t believe in love. She doesn’t want to become ‘boyring’ for a start, but deep down there’s a little part of her that thinks if she doesn’t get her hopes up, she won’t ever be disappointed. Annie has cerebral palsy and would hate for someone to reject her because of her disability – or worse, be with her because they felt they had to!

‘They think I hurt someone. But I didn’t. You hear? Coz people are gonna be telling you all kinds of lies. I need you to know the truth.’

Then Annie meets Fab – he’s flamboyant, energetic and a complete romantic. At first Annie can’t believe how naïve he is about the world – why can’t a kiss be just a kiss? Why is it such a big deal? But as her feelings for him grow, she doesn’t know how to convince him that she can be as sincere as he is.

Joe hasn’t seen his brother for ten years, and it’s for the most brutal of reasons. Ed is on death row.

Annie realises that love can make you do wild, crazy things and so she sets out to win Fab’s heart with a romantic gesture of truly epic proportions!

From one-time winner and two-time Carnegie Medal shortlisted author Sarah Crossan, this poignant, stirring, huge-hearted novel asks big questions. What value do you place on life? What can you forgive? And just how do you say goodbye?

Fans fell in love with the warmth, wit, romance and fierce friendships in Flirty Dancing, Love Bomb, Sunkissed and Star Struck. Jenny McLachlan writes the best kind of real-life fiction – with big themes and characters you’ll love, her books go straight to your heart. ALSO AVAILABLE:
