‘QUOTE’ The Solution is NOT the Inspiring Quote
T
By Jessica J. Lockhart – humanology – www.jessicajlockhart.com/en
he Social Media are full of quotes, inspiring sentences and recommendations of all kinds without any specifics on how to turn those memorable words into realities. Unless the work is done, words are just words. The Social Media and the Internet are brimming with inspiring quotes and questions, with magical affirmations and motivational quotes. And they’re ok, up to a point. They are ok in the sense that they can help some people perceive a different interpretation of reality or question their views until that moment. They are ok
28
because they might trigger introspection and analysis. They are ok because they might lead some people into avenues until then unexplored. But those sentences are only glimpses onto alternative realities and can only open doors and windows. They are like signposts on a road, telling us where one could go, if one walked or drove. Unless we move, unless we do the work and strive to live what those sentences and phrases say, our lives will remain the same. This information is really important when working with clients. If you are a manager in a company and need to help your subordinates, if you work in
Human Resources or as a coach, therapist or mentor, you should really help your clients move beyond the mere quote or the mere words. The same thing happens to motivational talks or messages. If you just give your people great-sounding bits of information but not the means to get there, you will be opening a door but not helping them cross the threshold to the other side. Learn how to truly help them. If, on the other hand, you are interested in this information for yourself, go ahead and start delving deeper into self-discovery and growth.
Let me give you an example… affirmations. I do use affirmations with some of my clients but only as part of a bigger plan. Repeating a sentence with intention five times in the morning and five times in the evening, in front of a mirror or in bed will NOT make it come true. Let me describe the process we use in humanology when dealing with affirmations. Bear in mind, though, that the help of a professional humanologist is recommended the first one or two times to be able to master the technique. 1.Identify the belief that is limiting you. (The professional humanologist will help the client do this by analyzing the client’s situation and reality) 2. Define the declarations (affirmations) that you tell yourself about that belief. (The professional humanologist will help here by guiding the client into identifying what declarations are and how to spot them.) 3. Decide whether you want to change the limiting belief. Choose a new declaration that will do away with the limiting effect the old one has. (The first times, the help of a professional guiding you is very useful.) The new declaration or affirmation needs to comply with some basic rules. It must be stated in the affirmative. It must be stated in the present tense. It must reflect something in your power. It can’t depend on anybody else. Start reinforcing it and strengthening it following these simple steps (fundamental): During the first week, verbally and mentally repeat the new declaration or affirmation as often as you can. Whenever possible, write the new declaration down as many times as you can. Yes, like in school. Every time the old affirmation or
declaration comes to your mind or into your words, let it go and repeat the new one five times to yourself, either in words or in your mind. Whenever the new declaration/ affirmation happens in your life, even if for just a tiny second, celebrate it. You can celebrate it any way you want, but make sure that you allow yourself the feeling of success, achievement, pride, happiness, satisfaction or the like. While celebrating it, make a gesture of success: high-five yourself, pat your back, kiss your hand, whatever. Do not attempt to change more than one belief/declaration at the same time. One declaration/belief per week is the recommended amount.
It is in the person’s power to decide what he/she is good at The person then starts reinforcing it. Observe that the person’s brain will be completely focused on this new affirmation/declaration when repeating it, so the old one will not be as reinforced as it used to be. In time, not reinforcing the old one will make it lose part of its power. Repetition is fundamental when establishing and changing beliefs. The person repeats ‘I am quite good at a few things‘ in front of the mirror every morning and evening, chants it in the car, thinks about it like a mantra for at least a whole week. The person sits down and writes the sentence fifty times every day for a week.
Let’s now apply it to a real affirmation/declaration. I have quite a few clients who believe themselves to not be good enough. Let’s apply the same list as before but now with this real example:
When the old thought, ‘I’m not good enough’ pops into the person’s mind, it is quickly acknowledged but immediately replaced with the new one: ‘I am quite good at a few things.’
1. Belief limiting them: ‘I’m not liked by anybody. I don’t fit in. I can’t do anything right. Every time I try to do something, I do it wrong.’
One day, the client is suddenly aware that he/she did something right. It’s celebration time! The client celebrates that achievement by jumping into the air and feeling good about it.
2. Declaration: ‘I’m not good enough.’ 3. The person does want to change the belief, as it makes life so hard. A new declaration is chosen after working with a humanologist: ‘I am quite good at a few things.’ (Observe that this new belief somehow destroys the old one without contradicting it. It’s fundamental to choose new declarations that don’t contradict the old ones, as our brain would not accept those that do.) It is in the affirmative (negative ones would be something like… I’m not bad. The “not” part would be negative.) It is in the present (if the declaration is set in the future tense, it will always be in the future, never real.)
As you can see, the procedure is not just a matter of reading an inspiring affirmation or quote. It’s not a matter of anybody convincing you, either. It’s much more. It requires serious work. Without that work, nothing will change. If you are a coach, a therapist, an executive or human resource professional, bear this in mind when working with your people. We all have limitations and beliefs, and giving us inspiring quotes or ideas will not be enough to help us change. There’s a complete process to follow and only by completing it, will our reality change. Inspiring quotes, motivational texts, pep talks and the like can only effectively work when followed and supported by real steps and progress.

Olivier Esnault was born in Borth deaux, France on 10 of November 1995. He studied B.Sc. in Business from University of London. He is an aspiring model who started modeling last year and instantly became Instagram famous. Tell us about your career as a model. How were you discovered? I am just at the beginning of it. I started only last April and I am still learning a lot. In your own eyes, what was the moment that your career really took off? It is right now, my Instagram is growing so fast! I get every day around 50 messages of support and gratefulness which push me even more to keep going. The goal of showing my body in the way I do, is to inspire people and keep them motivated, and it works! How would you define your personal style? That's a good question. I'd say I like to be dressed up most of the time as what you're wearing is the first thing that people see. It shows confidence; therefore it reveals what I think of myself. Also, to me it's a token of respect to people I am with. How did you get into fitness? What workout do you do to get that amazing body? I got into fitness because I wanted to perfect myself the most I could. I have only one life as Olivier Esnault and I want to make the most of it. Where do you pull your inspiration from? I'd say some personalities like Connor Murphy, Jeff Seid or Zac Smiths inspired me a lot. What does your current training look like? What do you like most about it? Every week I go around 5 or 6 times (3 days and one resting day and so on). I have three different sessions. Biceps-Chest, Butt-Legs, BackShoulder. This is what works best for me.

Photographer Monsieur Kay Model Olivier Esnault What does your nutrition (eating) plan look like? Of course, every day I need my portion of protein. I eat healthy but if I want to indulge myself with a treat, I don’t even hesitate a second. What would you recommend for a quick 20 to 30 minute workout? Honestly, I never do a 20-30 minute workout as for me the most important is the warming up, and it usually lasts between 25 and 40 minutes. What are some simple work outs that people can do at home who don’t have access to equipment or can’t afford gym membership?
Working with your own weight is really efficient, push-ups is one of the best exercises ever. What was the biggest change in your life after entering into modelling industry? The number of opportunities is constantly increasing and what you can do to impact the world positively becomes possible. Have you reached your dream assignment yet? If not, what would that dream assignment be? This is only the beginning for me, and you're going to love what's coming.
What’s a typical week like for you? Until July 2018 I was a student at the University of London, studying Business. I was also working as a host in a prestigious hotel called the Savoy. So, I had to manage the three together. Give us 5 facts about you, people may not know. Always grateful, optimistic, helping, curious and willing to learn. What’s next for you? From August 2018 you will see me on YouTube! I'm going on an around the world trip to unite people from all over the world together. I'm not saying more.

Photographer Liza Sharipova Model Anastasiya Gepp Makeup artist Anastasia Morozova How long have you been working in the photography arena? How did you develop an interest in photography? I have been doing photography about 5 years. At the beginning I was a model. I used to take part in different photography projects in our city. Then I started to try taking photos of other models whom I knew personally and I really liked it. What does photography mean to you? I love people and enjoy making conversations with them. I always try to find beauty in every person. So photography helps me with it. Photography is the way to show how I see and how I feel people and world around me. What equipment do you prefer to use? I don't think too much about equipment. Maybe it's not good, but for me it doesn't matter what kind of equipment you have, for me the most important is how you feel yourself with it. I have really not so expensive equipment but it's enough for me. What is your expertise as a photographer?
I am doing photography mostly for my pleasure. Sometimes take orders from different people or companies. What were the challenges that you most commonly faced and how did you deal with them? The biggest problem for the creative person is belief in yourself. From time to time, every creative person has some kind of crisis. It's an awful time when you don't like what you do and you don't know what exactly you want to. In this period, I take a pause for relaxation and wait for a new inspiration. Among the gadgets that you own, is there something that you wish you hadn’t bought? Why? No, I don't like gadgets so much. I just have what I really need. What do you enjoy the most about being a photographer? What I enjoy the most is the feeling when I did something I really liked. When I'm looking at the picture and my heart starts beating faster. What, in your opinion, is most important to consider while shooting portrait pictures?
The most important thing is to show the better side of the person whose picture you are taking. Don't try to show clothes, make up and other stuff (if it's not an advertisement) but try to show the beauty of a person and his/her inner world. What kind of tools do you use for post processing? Explain your work flow. I use Photoshop for better picture. I don't like unreal colors or hard processing. I like natural colors and contrast photos. And I really like black and white photography. Few days ago I created a new account in Instagram for only black and white photography with models whose eyes are closed on pictures. https://www.instagram.com/ eyes_wide_shut00 Whose work has influenced you most and why? As I was a model before, I have a lot of photographers among my friends. So at the beginning I started to work like them but now I prefer to follow works of foreign photographers. Lately I love more sensitive pictures than glamorous perfect shots. At the moment my idol is Peter Lindbergh.
August 2018
What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos? I wish I knew that our fears and diffidence block our mind and don't let us use all the opportunities we have in life. If you were to give advice to a rookie about how to become a photographer, what would you say? What would you not say? I would say - try to do your own experience, do mistakes, correct your mistakes and listen to your heart and your feelings. Don't try to copy someone, don't think about money just think about your inner world. It's beautiful - your inner world, so let it be seen in your works.

Marco Jimenez te Woerd is a model from Dutch/Spanish decent. Marco was born in Tenerife (Spain) in 1996 after which he moved to the Netherlands a few years later. In his younger years, Marco's life revolved mostly around soccer. Due to injuries and external complications his career ended abruptly. This allowed Marco to finish his Business Degree at a university in the Netherlands. Through his university program he was able to come to San Francisco to write his dissertation. In addition to the opportunity to enter and explore the United States business market he was discovered as a model. The modeling industry has accelerated Marco on several levels which allowed him to relocate to Los Angeles and become a US resident. As a model, Marco has recently been active in the Los Angeles, New York, Miami and San Francisco market. Interested to see what he's up to next? www.instagram.com/marcojimenez9 www.facebook.com/ marcojimeneztewoerd How would you define your personal style? I would define my personal style as a mixture of chic and sporty. If I could, I would be wearing a suit every day. I love Italian fitted suits and they make me feel great. However, considering the fact that I live an active lifestyle in Los Angeles where the temperatures often exceed 90 degrees, this is nearly impossible. Therefore my next favorite is athleisure, comfortable clothes designed to be suitable for both exercise and everyday wear. I usually buy my clothes from Europe because my personal style goes better with the European fashion market. I think the secret is to keep it simple. How did you get into fitness? What workout do you do to get that amazing body? I use physical activity as a means to release stress and negative emotions. It has a therapeutic effect on me and therefore it became addictive. As a kid back in Europe I did it through playing soccer on a high level and now through fitness. Besides the
64
mental aspect, fitness gave me confidence, consistency and discipline that I can now apply to everything I do in life. Being a soccer player all my life provided me with a solid athletic foundation, which gave me a head start in the gym. After that I’d say the secret is patience, hard work, consistency and most of all: a strict diet. Where do you pull your inspiration from? I get inspired by reading and I get motivated by family. I try to read as much as possible. Not many people know this about me but I love to read. It gives me inspiration, knowledge and ideas for my own life. I get motivated by family because they are so far away and always supportive. Whenever I feel down and I miss them I remember why I am all the way on the other side of the world and it reignites the desire to make my dreams reality. What does your current training look like? What do you like most about it? My current training is split into 5 different days. Day 1: Biceps, Triceps & Traps, Day 2: Chest, Day 3: Back & Shoulders, Day 4: Legs & Abs. Sometimes I through in a fifth day depending on what I believe my physique needs at that time or as preparation for photo shoots. I try to switch up my programs every 4 weeks to ensure progressive overload and try to break through plateaus. What I like most about my training is the energy and positivity it gives me afterwards. I wake up early in the morning to make sure I can get my workout in before my day starts. That way my energy levels are spiked and I’m just an overall happier person throughout the day. What does your nutrition (eating) plan look like? My diet is quite repetitive due to the fact that I am trying to stay lean year round for modeling work. I cannot really afford to go through a bulking stage and risk getting booked in that period of time because my body will not be in proper condition. I start with a big breakfast and after that I eat 6 meals containing 2 sources of protein, a variety of vegetables and sweet po-
tato/brown rice as my source of carbohydrates. I eat about every 2 hours and I stop eating at least 90 minutes before going to sleep. This might sound like a lot to some people but the portions are small. My diet consists out of frequent, small portion meals to keep my metabolism going. Every now and then I throw in a massive cheat day to shock and reboot the system. What would you recommend for a quick 20 to 30 minute workout? How long should people rest in between workouts? This highly depends on your goals. In my 12 Week Transformation guide on www.marcojimenezfitness.com I talk about 2 different types of workouts that can be done in 20 minutes. The first part consists out of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) which are basically two different options for extremely intense cardio exercises that can be done in a short amount of time. The cycle needs to be repeated twice and I recommend resting 2 minutes in between. These cycles are extremely effective for fat loss and building stamina. When it comes to muscle building, there are 20 minute ab workouts in the programs which can all be performed in a timeframe of 15-20 minutes. I recommend to rest at least 24 hours when you hit a certain muscle group before training it again. Muscles grow when you rest, not in the gym. What are some simple work outs that people can do at home who don’t have access to equipment or can’t afford gym membership? My favorite is definitely ab workouts. You can literally build a sixpack without stepping foot in the gym because all you need is cardio (low fat percentage) and exercises that can all be done with body weight. Besides ab workouts there are plenty of other body parts that can be trained at home. The gym might be more suitable when it comes to training for volume, but training for strength can all be done by using your bodyweight. Without strength training for volume is impossible. Pushups, Dips, Pullups, Squat Jumps, Lunges can all be done in your house of backyard.

What are the best types of exercises for getting the fastest results in the shortest period of time? When it comes to building muscle, results take time. I always tell my clients to be patient and consistent. I noticed that this is a common misconception amongst people that just started workout out. It is a time consuming process. Nothing good comes easy and this goes for fitness as well. That being said, fitness is one of the only sports on the planet that does not require any talent. Everybody can do it with the right mind set and discipline. Losing weight however can be done a lot faster. You have complete control over how fast you want to do this. It is a simple formula of burning more calories than you eat. Calorie deficits will make you lose weight. It is very important to keep eating though. Not eating is not the way to do it. Having a good plan that includes eating the right foods and monitoring what you put in your body is the most efficient way to do it and will give you the best physique. A combination of frequent workouts and a proper diet can get you fast results in a short amount of time. What made you start online fitness coaching? The impact fitness has made in my personal life. It completely changed my mindset and perception on life. Fitness provided me with the confidence and motivation to chase my dreams. It gave me this feeling that I can handle anything the world throws at me. I wanted people to experience a similar feeling. Nothing would make me feel more satisfied and accomplished than giving people the ability to chase their dreams through passing on my knowledge. I believe that sincere, heartfelt intentions are the only way to make any sort of venture successful and sustainable. This is a passion of mine, and a way for me to contribute to society and help other people.

What kind of training program does your online fitness coaching offer? Is it highly structured or more informational? It is actually a combination of both. The premium package that I offer online (which contains all the workout programs and guides available), starts off with general information. I believe there is no point in doing anything in life if you do not know exactly what you are doing or what you are doing it for. Nobody has ever gotten a great physique without having knowledge about what he or she is doing. It is simple, general information; which I believe to be all the knowledge you need to have in order to achieve your physique goals. The actual workout programs come after the general information and those are very structured. The company is still in the beginning stages. Throughout the next couple of months there will be a large variety of options that clients can choose from based on their personal preference. Name five things you can’t live without? Family, Friends, Sports, Airports, Love What are your future plans? I am planning a move to New York in the near future depending on how fast things are moving with my upcoming companies. I cannot say too much about that just yet but more information will be on my IG: @marcojimenez9 very soon. Until then, I will enjoy my time in Los Angeles working my ass off until I am on the cover of Forbes Magazine.

How did you two met? On Instagram… we were following each other for a long time and one day we decided to write message - Enrico did it first. I still remember how surprised he was when I replied. What does “Pride” mean for you? The most important meaning of this word is to be proud of who you are, no matter what other people say. “Pride” is also kind of celebrating diversity and equality. For you, how pride month is different than other months? Honestly it’s not a big difference :) of course there are a lot of nice events during this month, but honestly - for us every month is a pride month! This is the only way to finally live in the world of freedom and respect to everyone. How do you celebrate pride month? This year it was a great chance to finally meet in person, we took a special “Pride” photoshoot, did a lot of posts in our social media, but to be honest nothing special. Unfortunately we are both really busy, so we had no chance to join any parade or something like this but the pride is in our hearts all the
74
time, and this is the most important thing. Is there any memorable moment associated with pride month that makes you delighted? It would be if polish government would finally legalized gay marriages (laugh), but unfortunately it’s impossible now but luckily gay people can get married in Australia, so even if it happened before pride month, it’s still a perfect gift but probably most memorable moment will be of course our meeting. What are the misconceptions that people have regarding the pride month? Probably the biggest one is that some people think that there’s no reason to fight that everyone has equal rights but this is not true. In some countries pride month it’s mostly a celebration, but in a lot of places in the world this is not only a celebration, it’s a fight for the equal rights, sometimes even for the right to life, right to love. As a social influencer, what do you do to promote equality? I think the best way to promote equality it’s just to be yourself, no matter what will happen. You will show people that they have no choice! They
must start to respect you, and all the other people on this planet. But of course I’m trying also to support all people living in a worse situation than I do. Sometimes kind word or nice caption to the post can help a lot. There are so many countries in which it is illegal to be gay. What do you think people from other parts of the world should do to help LGBTQ+ community from those countries? We can’t do too much, but our governments or International nongovernmental organizations can! So no matter how, but we must say them, that we can’t agree for this! Peaceful manifestations, petitions, etc. Lastly, is there any advice you want to give people suffering from social discrimination? And what should they do? It’s very difficult. My first thought is “always be yourself”, but there are some countries, where “being yourself” can be even punished with death. I think, first of all they should try everything to move out, there is a lot of countries all around the world where persecuted people can find a help from nongovernmental organizations to start their new life.

Chase was born and raised in Macon, Mississippi. Chase didn't get into music until his parents took him to a concert when he was 9 years old. After that night, Chase began singing. When he turned 13, Chase began writing his own songs. That became difficult to do since he was unable to also play them so he began taking guitar lessons at the age of 15. At 17, Chase recorded his first song. In 2013 he moved to Nashville to pursue a career in singing.

I chose the path of music after attending a country music concert when I was 9 years old. I fell in love with the way music connected people. I began singing the day after. I asked my school teacher if I could sing to the classroom. How would you describe the music that you typically create? I would describe my music as emotional. Every song I write or record, I like to have an in-depth meaning in it. I am all for the happy beer drinking party songs but I feel like my style goes a little deeper than that. I like the songs that give you chills, make you cry, or make you feel inspired. I feel like those are the songs that stick around the longest. What did your family do to encourage you? Who else in your family sings? No one in my family is into music the way that I am. I've always been the one that carried that title. For support, my family always followed me to shows that I played (especially my parents). My parents also surprised me with my first guitar which began my journey to learning how to play when I was 15 years old. How did you come out to your family? What was their reaction? I came out to my family after a suicide attempt. The struggle to keep such a heavy secret was too much to handle. I told my mom first which then led to my dad. They both handled it well but they did think it was a phase or something that I was just going through. They are
open to everything now and accepting of me. How was your life changed after coming out? It feels like I am more care free of what others think of me. I have noticed that I have taken more risks and chances in my life since then. I have also learned that my favorite place to be is outside my comfort zone. What are you doing to support LGBT community? I am allowing my voice to be heard in places that are typically considered not very gay friendly such as the country music world. When I was younger I was scared of being the one to stand out but since coming out, that's all I want to do. I have trouble getting myself to record a song or post a video if I believe it won't make me stand out a little more. I hope that my work is telling people who are like me that it is okay to be themselves. What inspired you to write Begin with You? It didn't take me long to write this song. I knew I wanted a positive upbeat song that also meant something. I had always wanted a song like this. Once I finished I felt like I had to travel and do the video. I feel like the lyrics of this song has always been a part of me. I just couldn't get them on paper until I accepted myself. I wrote this after I came out to everyone.

What can you tell us about your book, Backstage: The Truth Behind Me? I wrote my book for my family to read because I felt like I had kept a huge part of myself away from them for years. I wanted them to know the real me and know exactly what I had been struggling with. Once I realized they enjoyed the book and were open to learning from it, I allowed my listeners/followers to do the same. Who are your biggest musical influences? Celine Dion of course. I also really enjoy Steven Tyler. What makes your music unique? How long does it usually take you to write a song? It really depends. Begins with You took me 30 minutes to get onto paper but to be honest, it took me 15 years to write that song because I had to live it first. I'd say what makes my music unique is the fact that I write and sing outside my comfort zone. I feel like the feeling of comfort only comes when you allow yourself to stop learning and growing. Has there been one particular moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? I have had many, but I would say the ones that I am most proud of is when I am told someone came out because they heard my song or watch a video of mine. There is no way to describe how it feels when someone says my hard work has helped them through their process. What’s your gym routine? How do you manage to stay fit while writing and recording? The main thing I stick to right now is eating right and that's more difficult than working out. What is the bad habit that no one knows about you? Overthinking everything I do. What’s your next big step? Showing my personality through vlogging. What advice do you give to someone who is struggling with his/her sexuality? I'd tell them that being different and unique is what reserves you a spot in the world. Be loud about who you are and share what you think, feel, and believe whether it is through music, videos, pictures, or whatever you are into. People will eventually come around to your sexuality but it's not your job to wait and meet them there.
