Tell us about your career as a model. How were you discovered? I was working two jobs, one at nightclub bartending on weekends then an office job during the week. I had dated a girl who said I should get into modelling, but didn’t think much of the idea at the time. I did a few promotional modelling jobs at Toronto pride one year and got scouted. I had a good start and got lucky with a few good bookings right away. “Begginers luck”. From there I did modelling part time while still working the bar job. I liked that it (modelling) helped keep me accountable for my fitness and overall appearance. What matters in modelling is how you look right now, not how you used to look, or how you could look given a few days notice. Fast forward 5 years and I have travelled to over 20 different countries for this job working for some great clients in Mexico City, Costa Rica, Medellin, Bogota, Istanbul, Sydney, NYC, Athens and Cape Town . Now my home base is in Medellin, Colombia and I am back and forth between here, Canada and Europe. Although I left a very secure life to pursue this avenue I have no regrets as stagnation is depressing to me. Chronically being challenged and having to adapt is something I have grown to love. I love putting myself in difficult situations, where I have to figure things out, have to learn more and grow. I don’t believe very much growth takes place when you are comfortable.
Did you always want to be a fitness model growing up? No. My original dream was to be a professional skateboarder. I did nothing but eat, sleep and breathe skateboarding from when I was 12 to 22. A few bad knee injuries retired me from that career early. When I was 19 I kept dislocating my shoulder skateboarding and needed physiotherapy constantly. The physiotherapist educated me on strength training and how adding some muscle around my shoulders would help keep them stronger and prevent them from popping out of the socket. That was my first introduction to weight training. The benefits on my performance and mood were great as skateboarding is aerobic and weight training is anaerobic, an exercise i had never really been exposed to before. I like the progress and changes training did for my body and got hooked from there. What was the biggest change in your life after entering into modeling industry? I guess the lack of security seeing as the job itself is all over the place in terms of travel, location, job frequency. Its very up and down however I think anything you do in life is risky so might as well be something where you enjoy the process that you are having fun with. Originally not having a home base and being somewhat nomadic was very difficult, but I got used to it and technically have two home bases right now, Medellin and
Canada. The USA will be a third very soon. Do you consider yourself to be creative? Where do you pull your inspiration from? Yes I would. I believe thoughts become things, and you can manifest things into existence. I believe the mind is always trying to complete the vision it sees, therefore you are what you think about all day long. Whatever you focus on, your going to feel. I used to have anxiety about hurting my knee when i was skateboarding. I would always think about not hurting my knee and obsess over it, obviously i ended up blowing out my knee multiple times after that. I didn’t realize at the time that i had obsessed about it until the point that it had happened. I get my inspiration from people like Kai Greene, Greg Plitt, Sylvester Stallone. People that overcame the odds. I’m really no interested nor inspired but those who portray an image of a free lunch and having things handed them too them, much like most the influencers on instagram. Freud, Thomas Edison and Michael Jordan are others I am also inspired by. I believe that we are all creators and were put on this earth to do so. I read a lot of Joe Dispenzas’ books and he emphasizes this point a lot. However with our crazy world, a lot of us live in a stress and survival mode where we are not in

a good space to create. Using mediation and controlling stress helps slow down those brain waves to be conducive to a more creative state. How have your training changed since last time we interviewed you? Yes. The more i coach people and research I do, the more I realize that training is merely a stimulus and that the time spent outside the gym is just as important (if not more) than what you do when you are the gym. I train very minimalistically now, with a huge focus on nutrition, sleep, micronutrient optimization, recovery and digestive health. I train 4 times per week at the moment with a focus on compound movements and some imperative accessory work as well. I still stand by the deadlift, squat, military press and dip being all you need to build a body.
Have you changed anything in your nutrition plan since last time? Yes but not a ton. I follow something called the vertical diet, basically a whole foods diet without protein shakes or any of that nonsense. It is by far the best diet I have ever used for cutting, maintenance or putting on size. Basically I get everything I need micro and macro nutrient wise from whole foods. I eat fruit (pineapple, granadilla, apples, bananas, oranges, berries), vegetables (red peppers, carrots, spinach), whole eggs, greek yogurt, red meat, potatoes, sweet potatoes, white rice, almonds, brazil nuts and some other foods but it is pretty basic. The focus is on easy to digest foods that are micronutrient dense.

Did you ever have a crazy experience during your modeling career? Yes, tons. The craziest one was probably when I was living in Mexico City and there was an 8+ magnitutde earthquake. Over 400 people died, it was very tragic and terrifying. I had never experienced an earthquake before and I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone. The whole city was a mess after for quite a while, I left the next day and haven’t been back since, although I did enjoy Mexico. What’s a typical week like for you? I try to keep my sleep in conjunction with my circadian rhythm, however obviously that isn’t always possible as its 2:45 am in the airport as i am typing this lol. Every morning I get up around 7am, weigh myself then have a shower followed by some coffee and chicken bone broth. I keep my phone on airplane mode from 9pm until 2 pm on weekdays. After my first meal I go for a walk then if i am not working a modelling job that day I will read an hour then start on my clients plans which takes up most of the morning. After my second meal I will train then usually go grocery shopping. By that time I will be into my meals and social media and dealing with things on that end. I usually read a couple hours per day, listen to audible while I am out and about and track everything I eat. I am travelling a lot of the time so I am always preparing everything in advance for that. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail. What is the bad habit that no one knows about you?
Probably my over indulgence in things with artifical sweetners/ calorie free drinks. Sugar free jello, coke zero, diet cream soda are all mega crutches for me. That and caffeine, I could easily drink 4 or 5 cups of coffee in a morning, although I have cut down a lot in order to resensitize my body so I don’t need so much. How do you spend your free time? I like learning languages so I am on duolingo a lot, I have the premium version. I read a ton of books, I just finished Sapiens and amd now reading Tim Ferris’ book tools of titans. I love going to the pool or beach, going out for beers or cheat meals. I watch impact theory a lot and any articles I can find on nutrition or training I will always read. What’s next for you? I just turned 31, I gave myself until 35 to achieve my modelling goals. I am currently going to be in the process of packing on muscle for the next year to work towards attaining my ideal physique. I am working on my US visa, so LA will be my next stop. Until then I will be working very hard on expanding my fitness business and coming out with a few new books.

Eric Did you always want to be a fitness coach growing up? Growing up, I played hockey, football and baseball. My childhood dreams were to pursue those professionally. Upon finishing my sport-career, I needed a way to be competitive and fell in love with fitness. My love for fitness has evolved and grown over the last 6 years and has morphed into helping others as a fitness coach and personal trainer. What was the biggest change in your life after entering into fitness industry? Lifestyle. I think the biggest barrier to most people who do & don’t reach their fitness goals if lifestyle change. As soon as I committed myself to my personal fitness, I’ve accomplished a lot of my goals and have continually set higher goals. My advice to anyone who is serious about reaching their fitness goals is to adjust your lifestyle that allows you to progress towards your dreams and aspirations. How has your training changed since last time we interviewed you? My training is still a bodybuilding style. As a natural bodybuilder, my training does get adjusted a fair amount depending on whether I’m trying to build or cut down. At the moment, I am 4 weeks out of the WNBF Pro Super Natural in Orlando, FL so I am very focused on getting the leanest, most aesthetic physique come show day. Have you changed anything in
34 | ISSUE 16
your nutrition plan since last time? The same goes for nutrition. I’m currently in a caloric deficit – meaning I am expending more calories than I am taking in from my diet. Nutrition is something that is always being adjusted on a daily basis, especially as we near closer to the show. How do you spend your free time? My other great passion in life is travel. I always find myself looking at new places to visit and planning trips. Our next trip will come a few days after my show in August as we will go back to Europe for 6 weeks. I’m also a huge Boston sports fan, and if you know anything about Bostonians is that our religion is Patriots, Red Sox, B’s & Celts. Delaney
How did you get into fitness? I’ve lived an active lifestyle my entire life. Growing up, I did gymnastics for years, figure skated and played volleyball. My parents instilled the importance of a healthy lifestyle into me from a young age. In highschool, I started going to the gym but it wasn’t until a couple years into college that I really became serious about weight lifting and transforming my physique. I had always been the skinny one, and seeing my body change was exciting and made me want to continue to push on. Meeting Eric took my fitness to a whole other level. He played a big role in my desire to pursue fitness. Watching him so
passionate motivated me to really dive into the industry. Do you consider yourself to be creative? Yes! I think creativity can be defined in so many ways and is completely individual to the person. My creativity looks completely different from yours, which looks completely different than the next person. As a personal trainer, I invest a lot of my creativity into helping my clients by finding new ways and techniques to help them reach their goals. Where do you pull your inspiration from? A lot of my inspiration is pulled from watching others who I look up to. Who I surround myself with plays a huge role in where I become inspired. Between friends, family, significant others, colleagues, mentors, they all inspire me on a daily basis.
What inspired you to start your blog? I’ve always had a passion for writing and after traveling the world, I wanted a space to educate people on how I was able to do so and what that looked like. It started as a travel blog, but I quickly realized I could use it as a creative space for health and fitness as well. What does your current training look like? Currently I’m just training to feel good and look good. I don’t have any specific plans to compete or any specific physique goals. Right now, I’m maintaining and staying strong! I combine weight lifting,

BLOUDER boxing and circuit training about 56 days/week. My job also consists of me being on my feet all day, so I’m very active all day long. Eric & Delaney How did you two meet? In 2015, we both were studying abroad in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. We met one evening at a university event and it was game, set, match. What are some of the traits about each other that you value most? Eric: I love her lust for adventure. I think the fact that we met in a foreign country and have traveled to 15+ countries together is a testament to our appetites for adventure. I also love her determination for greatness. She is so committed in everything she does and her push only pushes me to work harder. Delaney: From the start, I’ve always admired Eric’s passion and work ethic. He inspires me daily to always follow your heart and do what you love FIRST. I love his desire to see the world and his openness to explore other cultures
and try new things. What’s a typical week like for you? We both are very busy these days. Eric with his PUMP Video Trainer, online coaching and in-person training; Delaney with her inperson training at Equinox & social media marketing for Title Boxing Club. Our days are jam packed, but we love to grind and it really makes the moments that we can let off the gas and create memories that much more valuable. What is the bad habit of each other that irritates you? Eric: I’ll be the first one to admit… I am usually my own worst enemy because I can get trapped in my own head. This might sound strange, but her willingness to comfort me can irritate me. She always puts me first and sometimes I wish she’d just give me tough love instead of being so damn good to me haha. Delaney: If Eric had it his way, there would be no cabinets or closets. Everything would be out in the open so he could easily find what he’s looking for. Hint, hint…. not
the best at putting things BACK or where they belong lol What is your one favorite thing to do together? Travel. Fitness. Food. Any mix of the three make us very happy. What are some of the things you do to keep your relationship growing? We talk. Through our 4+ years together, we’ve learned communication is everything. Luckily, we never sweep anything under the rug and are both outspoken enough to talk about any and everything. We also discuss the future a lot so we can shape what that will be and look like. What is the one most unexpected thing that you have done for each other? Traveling as much as we have. During the first two years we dated, I don’t think we imagined traveling this much. But it is one of our passions and we sure as hell feed it often. What’s next for you? Europe. Then, we will see. Interview us again in 3 months, it’ll be a brand new story.

Tell us about your career as a model. How were you discovered? Well I wasn’t so much discovered as I was activated there were a lot of agencies that wanted to sign me when I was younger but my mother wanted me to have a normal childhood. I was fortunate to have so many agencies interested in me, but as I grew up I became much more interested in acting. For me, it’s always been about selfexpression. That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning, so when I moved to LA, modeling was a very natural and joyful outlet for that self-expression that so motivates me as an artist. In your own eyes, what was the moment that your career really took off? In all honestly, I still don’t feel like someone whose career has taken off. I think it’s because I have such high expectations and belief in myself and my potential that, to me, it feels like I’m much closer to my career’s floor than ceiling. I suppose though, I did feel very affirmed in that belief when I booked my campaign with Wella Professionals. They’re an elite hair company, or rather a conglomerate of hair companies. It was my first time stepping on the set of industry leaders. Everything on the set was high-end and everyone there was an expert at what they do. It just
made it all feel more real. What is one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done? There are definitely some interesting ones! Either the Smartfood Popcorn commercial when I had to sit on literal mountains of popcorn and eat popcorn, slowly, piece by piece, or the Nike-Blends collaboration shoot for their React Element 87 shoe. On that one, I had to be underwater in seawater with this successful male model who was basically saving my life every take. I’m not good at holding my breath. Did you ever have a bad/crazy experience during your modeling career? All these unsolicited dick pics. What’s the biggest misconception about the female modeling industry? Honestly, it’s the misconception that it is an easy job. Even for successful models, the job frequently demands extremely high degrees of professionalism; and professionalism in discomfort. I think most people don’t realize that most of even the most glamorous looking photo-shoots were very unglamorous to actually make. As a model, part of your job is to make the uncomfortable look comfortable at the easiest of times, and seamlessly effortless at the hardest.
What is your favorite thing to do when not working? Definitely chilling at home with my cat, Kovu. I’m kind of obsessed with him. I like the basic stuff too like shopping and seeing movies. There are some more uncommon things I like to do as well though, like sailing, and sometimes jet-skiing. Believe it or not, I also weld!
What is your favorite healthy snack? I like blackberries with sugar, gluten free pita bread with a garlic spread I like to pick up at the farmers market down the street from my place. I also love organic teas. I love making them from scratch when I have time, but these days I find myself buying them more often. What’s a typical week like for you? The funny thing is that my schedule is so sporadic that I don’t really have a “typical week.” Every week is different, but I usually wake up and go through my emails first thing, then I’ll start working on my auditions, both remote and in person. I typically have fittings and shoots peppered throughout the week. Give us 5 facts about you, people may not know. First, I have a love for wines. I
AUGUST 2019
BLOUDER want to own my own winery someday. Second: Almost everything I do is with my legacy and my future family’s legacy in mind. Third: I have two little halfbrothers who both have a disease called NF1 (neurofibromatosis, type-1). It’s a genetic disease that attacks the nervous system. I’m really lucky that I’m not a carrier, as it’s on the adopted side of the family. Fourth: I’m an excellent shot. (Gun pistol) Fifth: I’m a pretty good horseback rider. I specialize in western saddle. What are your travel essentials? I’d say my toothbrush, face-wash, contacts, contacts case, sunglasses, my silk sleep mask, and probably Moroccan oil. What projects are you presently working on? I just wrapped up a commercial with Nu Skin, and I’ve booked an Instagram commercial. I also work Watch Gang every month, and I’m really excited and hopeful that I’ll book for Chanel in the near future.
