Interview With Chris Lin How long have you been working in the photography area? I have been working in photography for 3 years. How did you develop an interest in photography? What does photography mean to you? I studied fine arts especially painting for many years. Then I found photography is a more concretize way to show what the picture is in my mind after I got my first camera. I keep using it to document, to express. For me, photography is the best way to express myself and to explore the world. What equipment do you prefer to use? What is your expertise as a photographer? I use sony a7r3 right now. As a photographer, I am skilled at lighting; light is always one of the most important things of taking picture. What were the challenges that you most commonly faced and how did you deal with them? As a photographer, I have to manage a team (makeup artist, stylist, models, etc.) in every shoot, let people in the team enjoy working with me is very important. I need to be very calm when I am working, and prepare everything in order ahead of time, then when we are working, it will be more efficient. What do you enjoy the most about being a pho-

tographer? I can built the world through my camera, and I put whatever I want in the world, make it like a dream, then I can invite all the people come to this world. What, in your opinion, is most important to consider while shooting portrait pictures? How to light the model is always the key, and the makeup is also very important. What kind of tools do you use for post processing? Explain your work flow. Lightroom & Photoshop I usually use Lightroom to import & resize, and then I use Photoshop to retouch everything else. Whose work has influenced you most and why? Elizaveta Porodina, she is a Germany photographer. She is very good at combining different colors in her pictures, extracting the underlying emotions in her entrancing production. What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos? There is always something new to seek, but the only way is keep taking photos. If you were to give advice to a rookie about how to become a photographer, what would you say? What would you not say? First of all, keep taking photos with your camera, which is always the most important thing.

Interview With Sarah Farris Tell us about your career as a model. How were you discovered? I switch back and forth from doing it full time and part time as there is a bit of a slow season with the weather in California. There was never a day I was really “discovered,” I grew my portfolio and reached out to people to help expand my network, it was a gradual process. Finding what magazines I liked and thinking about different styles and themes also really helped channel my focus. In your own eyes, what was the moment that your career really took off? Honestly, I think it was when I opened up my availability. There have been many obstacles that have slowed me down, but becoming a full time model has let me be able to be work on more complex projects that have more depth to them. What is one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done? That's a hard one. I had a “dinner party” themed shoot that turned into a food fight. In the end we were having fun just throwing food at each other. I got to splash apple juice on another model’s face too, it was so hard to keep a straight face! With everyone working together we got some super cool shots, with a cleaver too. Did you ever have a bad/crazy experience during your modeling career? Yeah. When I first started boudoir I was more naive than I'd like to admit. I should have seen the red flag that he didn't want my boyfriend to be there. He kept making moves, and I'm already being pretty oblivious to getting hit on in general so I didn't notice anything. It wasn't until he asked if he could lick my nipples that drew the line, and I left after that. I wish I could go back and listen to my gut and tell him off because I know he would have been scared of what I would have done now. Don't be shy about telling peo-

ple they're being inappropriate. I think I come off much stronger than I used to, so it hasn't happened since. What’s the biggest misconception about the female modeling industry? I think it's this idea that you have to be perfect. Before I started, I felt that I couldn't do it because I didn't have the “perfect” body. I ask myself this everyday, who defines perfect? Why did we, as humans, imagine this beautiful figure with absolutely no flaws when no such thing exists? All of us are part of this image of perfection that none of us will really ever achieve, so appreciate the parts that paint the picture of perfection and the parts that make you not, for it is not what just makes us human - it makes us real. If only had I known that it was my own insecurities holding me back, I would have started a long, long time ago. What is your favorite thing to do when not working? Probably learning languages or playing video games. I can get lost in Civilizations 5 (haven't played the newest one yet!), 7 days to die (thanks telltale - from a console player), any of the Elder scrolls, I just got into Fortnite and had no idea the hype behind it, and minecraft. I can get into a game for days. What is your favorite healthy snack? I honestly make a bowl of mangoes, strawberries, fresh mozzarella balls and Tajin and mix it together. It's perfect to help with my sweet/fat tooth cravings and can give you a nice kick! I also found this recipe that's just a tortilla pizza that you can get super creative with and is always easy and quick to make! What’s a typical week like for you? There's never a typical week in my life with modeling, school and work. I have an on-call job as a Banquet server that I'll do 2-4 days a week, I

go to school a couple days a week for Speech Pathology and shoots can be very sporadic. I can be shooting 5 days a week one month and none the next. If I get a day off, it's usually random like a Monday and a Thursday, so weekends are usually nonexistent. I still do what I can to create a work/life balance, but saving and school is important. As long as I'm making money, I'm happy. Give us 5 facts about you, people may not know. I like cars but hate driving, I would drive on a track in a heartbeat though. Other drivers scare me more than anything. I also like heavy metal and listen to Slayer, Amon Amarth, Enslaved, Myrkur and many more. I am at least conversational level in four languages and plan to learn more when I'm out of school. I have webbed toes, and I live off of dark humor and sarcasm. What are your travel essentials? Skincare. Skincare. Skincare. I will carry travel size decanters of my entire routine so I won't have dry skin from the plane, soft blankets because you never know what the hotel's are going to be like, brick charger, and for makeup I take Milk makeup sticks. Their travel minis are seriously perfect for travel especially when you pair it with mini makeup sponges to a make low maintenance look like high maintenance. I also love bringing lenses to put on my phone until I can save up for the camera I want. It's perfect for taking big selfies either with a bunch of people or getting the background. What projects are you presently working on? I'm still trying to do a cosplay shoot, and I've also got a lot of fantasy looks coming for spring/summer! I have always wanted to wear big, fancy gowns and head dresses for a shoot. This year I am finally working out the details! I've also been dying to do the Black tape project with some of the new colors they have.
