INTERVIEW WITH When did your interest in music start? I started playing violin when I was 6 years old. The teachers at my elementary school did an exhibition and I was sold. My parents brought me a violin home and I immediately picked it up and was amazing-ly terrible. I thought it was broke and told my father I wanted to quit. He said, "sure you can quit, you just have to practice 15 minutes a day" I was like cool.I literally was practicing everyday so I could quit.. lol. By the time I figured out he duped me, I was practicing 13 hours a day in college as a performance major. Thanks Pops You have expertise on several instruments. Which is your favorite and why? My favorite instrument is the cello. It has such a rich, dark and deep tone. When I first realized I could play it, it changed how I created music. Please explain your creative process. My process differs but it revolves around voice notes I've made or just pulling ideas from thin air. I sometimes begin with guitar, that’s when I'm writing lyrics and such. I use a program called LOGIC and I record a lot of live instrumentation.

What unique challenges and rewards come from working as a professional musician? The challenge comes from balancing being creative with doing business. I find that I can't give myself over %100 to just being an artist because I have to make sure I'm working consistently.

Who are the biggest inspirations for your career? The biggest inspiration are musicians who blaze their own paths. Ones who are able to create music and market and promote it in a way that keeps them in control. My mother has also been a huge inspiration just watching the way that she has developed herself and the lives of my brothers and sister. She has truly overcome odds that are incredible in comparison to what outcomes she could have had. What ranks among the favorite achievements that you've completed in your career and why? My favorite achievement was the unexpected favor I received from Michael Jordan. When he heard me play he immediately signed me as a brand ambassador for his company Jumpman. He made me the first violinist to be selected for a position that only 3 other people hold. It opened the door for many of the other achievements I've experienced. ie.. working with Quincy Jones, a WWE performance for 40k plus and taking all over the world playing violin. What are some of your personal and/or professional goals for the future? My goal professionally is to get paid for my ideas. I have learned that I can be intentional about creating businesses that I don't have to be present to run. Personally, I am committed to transforming my community and family. I want to bring partnership, love and life to all my relationships. Describe a typical week of work for you. What exactly do you do? I spend the majority of my time writing music. Right now I’m working on an album that will

showcase my voice, songwriting and production. I'm also building out a company that books artists and curates concerts. What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? Why? My favorite part about being a musician had to be found in creating community amidst strangers. My least favorite part is not being able to do every single gig that is presented to me. I appreciate it every single time someone decides to have me be a part of something that they have going on. It's such an honor to be desired. Unfortunately, I don't want to be a starving artist so I have to turn down more gigs than I accept. Can you offer performance tips for novices? Advice for novices is simple, get to know yourself. The clearer you are on who you are the easier it is to share yourself through your art. Your talent will get you in the room, your personality will keep you there. What challenges do you think will be addressed by the music industry in the next five years? I believe that music is evolving. Many of the challenges that the industry is facing stem from the ability for artist to take their careers into their own hands. A lot of what the industry is built on is access to resources, resources that they once had a monopoly on. As artist continue to learn to maneuver on their own the idea of the MUSIC INDUSTRY is quickly becoming antiquated and less mysterious. The industry is going to have to be responsible for giving more control to the artist as opposed to holding them to outlandish contracts.
