PRINCIPAL’S REPORT SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS At the close of nominations, I received a total of five (5) nominations for the five parent category vacancies. As this number equalled the number of vacancies, all nominated parents are duly elected to office. I also received one (1) nomination from staff for the DEECD vacancy on council and as such, we will not require a ballot to be conducted for that vacancy as well. Our new school council members will be: Parent Representatives: Ailsa Atkins, Jodie Norton, Michael Tabone and Prashad Sujenthiran (2 Year term) Michelle Sargeant (1 Year term) – Michelle nominated on condition it was for the one year vacancy, resulting from Lucienne Stewart’s early resignation) DEECD Representative: Nadine Giaccotto (2 Year term) Our next school council meeting, at which our new members will join council, will be held on Monday 22nd March, in the staffroom at 7.00pm. Our Annual report will be presented at this meeting which will of course include the changeover to the new council and the election of our office bearers for 2010.

safety issue. Please ensure that your child does wear a helmet when riding to school, either on a bike or scooter. As I told the children, our local police have informed me that they will be patrolling our precinct in the coming weeks and the fines for not wearing a helmet as required by law are now well in excess of $100!

basis of just several weeks work. I would be more concerned if there was a sustained pattern of lower performance coupled with a change for the worse in my child’s attitude to school and/or learning. By all means keep a watchful eye on your child’s progress and attitude, but not in an obviously intrusive manner and do communicate with us.

This process will HENRY GROSSEK be completed by the end of April and will provide us with a transparent and valid costing for the construction of our new building. This, it is hoped, will provide us with leverage in our discussions with the DEECD over the construction and costs of the new facility.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’s) Q. How concerned should I be if my child seems to have slipped a little in their school work in the early weeks of term 1? A. I wouldn’t be overly concerned for several reasons. Firstly, research IMPORTANCE OF WEARING indicates that a lot of children do slip HELMETS WHILE RIDING BIKES back a little for a short while – that’s not AND SCOOTERS surprising as we all slip a little when we I spoke about this issue at last Monday’s stop doing something for an extended school assembly. We have been period of time, such as a five week concerned at the growing number of holiday break! Secondly, teachers have children riding scooters to school, but different teaching styles and some not wearing helmets. Victoria Police have children take a little longer than others informed us that this is a legal to adjust. Thirdly, it is premature to requirement. More importantly, it is a make black and white judgements on the

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’ S REPORT FLU VACCINE The Department of Health has advised that free vaccine to protect against the H1N1 Influenza 2009 (Swine Flu) is still available. The vaccine has been proved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and is available to everyone from 6 months of age from local doctors and some local councils. Note that doctors may charge a consultation fee. Advice from the Department of Health indicate that H1N1 Influenza 2009 is expected to return to Australia for a second wave and probably much earlier than the normal flu season, based on experience from the Northern Hemisphere. We encourage parents to consider vaccination for themselves and their families.
