FRIDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER END OF TERM 3. 2:3 0PM FINISH ACTING PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

FILM FESTIVAL Congratulations to staff and students involved in this „historic first‟ for BLPS. The evening was most enjoyable with families, students and staff getting into the spirit of the gala event by dressing for the occasion. Guests and stars enjoyed „walking the red carpet‟ and I am sure that the paparazzi have some great photos of the arrivals. The audience enjoyed the short films and photo stories that highlighted the acting talents of students and provided plenty of laughs. A valuable feature of the preparations for the Film Festival has been the high level of student ownership of the whole process including writing of scripts, making props, sourcing costumes, filming and editing. Students and staff have been involved in a steep learning curve as they undertook this ambitious new program. Staff and students have already begun their review of the program and have many ideas on how they can build upon the work that they have done in future years. The refurbishment of our existing Library into a TV/film centre (under the BER project) will provide students and teachers with facilities and equipment to achieve a range of enhancements to their work. Thank you to families for their support and enthusiasm for the Film Festival. It is always risky to make a change from a long established tradition such as School Production and without your support it would not have been successful. We are interested in hearing from families regarding their thoughts about the films, the venue and the evening’s program. Your feedback would be most welcome.

of our building works. He has explained that they will start with the rerouting of the services that is required to clear the area for building. At this stage Andrew has indicated that the work area will be fenced off, including approximately half of the junior grassed play area and the Collins Crescent car park. This work will commence during the holiday break therefore parents will need to find alternative arrangements for parking and dropping off their children from the beginning of next term. In order to reduce the traffic congestion around the school and in the Cryril Molyneux Reserve car park I suggest that families consider parking further away from the school and walking the final distance to the school grounds. Hopefully some nice spring weather will make this a viable option! FOOTY COLOURS DAY On Tuesday all classes participated in a Junior School Council „Footy Colours Day‟ to coincide with the canteen‟s Footy Lunch Day. Students dressing up in footy colours contributed a gold coin donation to support the BLPS sponsor children, Oshdi in Sri Lanka and Pheear in Cambodia. The students enjoyed the day and raised $570 towards the sponsorship costs. Congratulations to the Junior School Council for this initiative. It is most rewarding to see our students supporting children who live in less privileged communities. Next term the JSC plan to reintroduce the concept of the money trees in each classroom to ensure that we continue to raise the funds necessary to support our sponsor children.

PFA CLOVER COTTAGE DINNER Last night community members and staff BER PROJECT attended a most enjoyable evening at Andrew Wood (APP) Project Manager for Clover Cottage. ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ REPORT ‘GOOD CHOICES, HEALTHY LIFE’ Last Friday, students and teachers from years Prep to four participated in an across-school expo that focused on health, nutrition, recreation and leisure. The expo was devised in order to celebrate the common thread of the current inquiry learning investigations throughout the school. The day started with students rotating through a variety of engaging workshops and activities which looked at the social, emotional and physical aspects of health and wellbeing. A number of people in our community also participated in the day and our appreciation and thanks go to Anita McDonald (Pilates) and Cameron Baum (Personal Trainer). In addition to these activities, our skilled and enthusiastic teachers of Berwick Lodge Primary School provided a range of activities, including everything from relaxation, hip hop dancing, yoga, healthy snack ideas to Martial Arts and Jump Rope for Heart demonstrations. Compared to two years ago we had beautiful weather conditions and the teachers and students alike had a most enjoyable day and we look forward to the next Good Choices, Great Life Expo in two years time. NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) Earlier this year students in Years 3 and 5 sat the NAPLAN assessment tasks in Literacy and Numeracy. The NAPLAN 2010 Parent Reports have arrived and will be sent home today with students in Years 3 and 5 who participated in the testing program. A flyer providing parents with information on how to interpret the report will be included with each child‟s report. It is important for families to remember that these results reflect each student‟s performance at a single point in time only and should be looked at in conjunction with the reports provided by classroom teachers. If

parents have any queries regarding their SUNSMART child‟s NAPLAN report they are HATS IN TERM encouraged to meet with the child‟s class 4 teacher for clarification.
