WELCOME At The Rose School we believe that all our pupils are unique, special and deserving of the best education we can provide. We unearth their uniqueness and enrich it with education, allowing them to ourish on the next step of their journey.
UNEARTH For each child, perspectives, aspirations and sources of hope matter. The Rose School provides a safe, caring and supportive environment where each student’s progress is central to our aims and purpose. From the beginning, student, home and school can all have high expectations. In Year 7 students are assigned a personal tutor to monitor them throughout their time with The Rose School. Tutors can assist in all aspects of a child’s educational needs – academic and personal – and are available for advice, support and a listening ear. We offer a wide range of subjects and other opportunities that allow for students to find what excites and inspires them, creating a lifelong interest in learning. Activities promoting independence, responsibility and leadership help uncover strengths, which the student then uses in pursuit of success. Achievement may be academic or vocational or about personal growth but it always begins with a student unearthing their unique potential.

The Rose School is a small secondary school that welcomes students that face social, emotional or behavioural challenges. The school provides specialist support through each young person’s series of progression steps and operates a system of Rewards and Consequences to encourage students towards greater responsibility and positive choices.
STUDENTS FIND A ROUTE TO SUCCESS BY CHOOSING R E S P E C T, TOLERANCE AND RESPONSIBILITY
Students find a route to success by choosing respect, tolerance and responsibility and as a school we in turn surround them with acceptance, understanding and opportunities to develop resilience and confidence. Students leave the Rose School confident in themselves, their abilities and their futures. The Rose School believes in the students it supports. We listen to students and encourage each to be their own guide along the route to success. At Key Stage 3 (11 – 14 years) students develop their academic potential, discovering strengths, interests and motivations.

ENRICH Students look forward to coming to school where they learn to celebrate similarities and differences as they grow into responsible young adults, ready to make positive and valuable contributions to their lives, their communities and the wider world. Individual support is available for students who benefit from intensive help with literacy or numeracy. Opportunities abound for all students to develop their creative, artistic and sporting skills – in The Rose School or in partnership with other schools or local community groups. In this way learning takes place in an environment rich with encouragement, tailored support and belief. Academic teaching is bolstered by the school’s forward-thinking ethos that instils in students, families and partner organisations, a sense of shared aims and enthusiasms. Activities that include work experience, outdoor events and social options, enrich the core curriculum and nurture each child towards independence and self-determination. This process is a joint endeavour between student, school and home, ensuring the student develops in a culture of care and responsibility.

By Key Stage 4 (14 – 16 years) students are ready to work towards GCSEs and BTEC exams and experience college and work activities, in readiness for their next adventure.
Award and our music and drama Activate programme. We treat every student with respect, offering tailored education packages when the standard model is unsuitable for an individual. We build empowerment and a sense of freedom in all students, whilst embedding an understanding of the meaning of UK law and compliance. This combination of independence and accommodation of others creates young people with a broad understanding of themselves and their place in the world.
Outside Learning and Forest Schools programmes give each student numerous opportunities to connect with the natural world and feel its transformative powers. As well as the benefits of the open air and free space, children and young people develop trust in themselves and others, and acquire practical skills such as keeping safe or using tools. Horticulture is taught on the school’s allotment and students also experience team building with UK Military Schools.
Good communication between school and home supports our students throughout their time at The Rose School. Targets are shared between home, school and student and supported by the whole school environment. Social events offer opportunities for parents and carers to work alongside students on various innovative projects. A Breakfast Club and various End of Day Options are available for all students. Regular reports and assessments of students record their progress and achievements and track progression steps towards individual targets.
The curriculum is strong at the core, recognising the importance of Maths, English and Science, and offers a host of other opportunities that promote well-being and enhance learning. Personal growth in each student blossoms through participation in activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh
