“WE TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO THINK... NOT WHAT TO THINK”
WELCOME
We want children and young people at Bradley Stoke Community School to be inspired by their learning, and to instil in them the motivation and aspiration to succeed in all that they do. We have high expectations of our children and young people, to do their very best in their learning and to gain top qualifications so that they can access the next stages in their lives and careers and be well prepared for those challenges. High quality teaching is our top priority, coupled with strong pastoral support, where adults genuinely care about the wellbeing of the students in their care. We believe that education is broader than a traditional curriculum and qualifications. We encourage the resilience, self-awareness and mental fortitude that allows young people to live fulfilling lives and to get the most from their school experience. Opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, problem solving and communication traverse all aspects of school life, skills that we believe are critical to ensure that our young people are ready to thrive beyond school in whatever path they choose. These form the foundations for us to achieve the very best outcomes for your son/daughter, in partnership with you and utilising the wider opportunities as part of the Olympus Academy Trust.

“WE LOVE TO PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS”
PRIMARY PHASE
Our Primary Phase offers a unique opportunity to be part of a school community that has both the intimacy of a separate one-form entry Primary setting, alongside the resources and opportunities provided by a large school. We believe that children are at their most successful when their imagination is stimulated, their curiosity is heightened and their learning links closely to their lives and the wider world. Our curriculum develops critical thinking and curiosity; children are given the opportunity to manage information, solve problems and make decisions, make connections, be creative, self-manage, work with others and value others ideas, resulting in independent and resilient learners. Pupils enjoy unique access to the surrounding nature reserve as part of our Forest School programme. Forest School sets learning in a different context for children where they can undertake a range of practical activities. In our experience, young people are stimulated by the outdoors and show, over time, an increase in their self-belief, confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication, problem-solving skills and emotional well-being. The children also enjoy cooking in our clay oven, exploring the sensory garden and looking after our school rabbits. Our success is evident in the engaged learners we see daily in our classrooms and in our consistently strong outcomes.
SECONDARY PHASE
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum designed to meet the needs of the full age and ability range. Teachers develop the diversity of talents that students bring into the teaching and learning environment as well as helping students to understand how they learn best. Children can excel in some areas of the curriculum and require support in others, so we adopt a flexible approach to grouping students. This means that for some subjects students are set in groups according to their ability and in other subjects they are mixed. We review grouping arrangements on a regular basis. School meals are prepared daily on site with a wide range of quality fresh produce available for students. Students are encouraged to walk and cycle to school where practical. Students and parents can access school learning and information through a secure online platform. This online tool also provides you with access to behaviour information, attendance records, assessment details, parents evening bookings and much more, so you can keep a close eye on your child’s progress during the year. Students do best when they enjoy their learning and have the opportunity to find and develop their interests. Therefore, we provide a wide variety of experiences and qualifications to suit all our learners; alongside a curriculum model and teaching methodologies that appropriately challenge and engage students enabling them to flourish. Our curriculum, enrichment activities and celebrations emphasise the personal attributes we believe are important; encouraging independent thinking, consideration of others, wellbeing and aspiration.
“IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. OUR RESULTS ARE CONSISTENTLY HIGH!”
POST 16
Staff in our Post 16 centre focus on supporting students to exercise their maturity, resilience and building their strength of character as they make important life decisions. At this stage we encourage students to take on more responsibility and independence as they reach adulthood. Many of our students progress to our Post 16 centre directly from Year 11, seeing value in the continuity of friendships and teachers as they progress to the next stage of their studies. We also have a significant number of students who join us from other local schools and this provides the ideal environment for learning and for friendships to flourish. All of our students go on to exciting destinations, with at least 70% of students securing University places, around 20% securing Higher Level Apprenticeships, whilst others go directly into employment. On an average year we see cohorts gaining places at more than 29 different universities across the country (with a significant percentage being offered at prestigious Russell Group institutions), studying everything from Medicine, Neuroscience, Fine Art, Film, Computer Science and Languages. Students benefit from the assistance of a dedicated Post 16 Learning Mentor who is on hand to guide them through their applications; just one aspect of our wide-ranging student support network. In addition to preparation for formal examinations, we equip students with a range of essential life skills, with an emphasis on employability in a dynamic jobs market.
“OUR SIXTH FORM? IT’S FIRST CLASS!”
“WE DON’T MEAN TO BLOW OUR OWN TRUMPET... BUT, OUR MUSIC LESSONS ARE TOP CLASS”
EXTRA CURRICULAR
We believe that education is about equipping students with life skills for the world that awaits them, ensuring that they leave our time with us as confidant and capable young people, having been offered a wide variety of opportunities to explore their interests and develop their talents. We offer a huge range of activities for students that take place during lunchtime, after school, at weekends and during the school holidays. Athletics, film club, debating, coding, cricket, sewing or football to name a few. Recent opportunities to travel include France, America, Iceland, Spain and Germany. Through our extracurricular activities, we broaden students experience further by offering a wide range of opportunities to develop personal interests; including events to broaden cultural horizons. Our lively and active Student Council reflects the strong leadership skills that our students develop during the course of their time with us. We encourage our young people’s confidence to share their ideas and make contributions to school life. We offer plentiful opportunities for students to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual and moral awareness, a positive, caring attitude towards other people, and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures. British Values are an integral thread throughout school life. From school clubs, enrichment weeks, and school trips (home and abroad!) life at BSCS is filled with opportunities to grow and learn as an individual.
