ABBEY PARK

SCHOOLS FEDERATION

FROM LITTLE ACORNS, MIGHTY OAKS GROW

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN, INCLUDING CHILD PROTECTION, AT ABBEY PARK SCHOOLS FEDERATION This school believes that it is always unacceptable for a child to experience abuse of any kind. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children. We will provide staff and volunteers with guidance to follow when they suspect a child may be experiencing abuse or at risk of harm. We will work co-operatively with other agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first – unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

WELCOME

Abbey Park First and Nursery School and Abbey Park Middle School share the spacious site opposite Pershore Abbey in the semi-rural town of Pershore. In September 2016 the two schools ‘federated’ and as the long serving Headteacher of the middle school, I was privileged to be invited to lead the development of both schools as their Executive Headteacher. The campus includes an outstanding pre-school, a teacher led nursery, a first school and middle school meaning that we can ensure expertise and continuity of learning from the age of 2 up until the age of 12. Additionally we offer a breakfast club for Reception to Year 7 children from 7.45 every day and after school care until 6.00 from Easter 2017. From September 2017, the Nursery will offer full time, 30 hours free, placements for qualifying parents. The nurture and care of our youngest pupils sets the climate for our approach throughout all years as we firmly believe that you need to be happy in order to learn!

Our First and Nursery School offers a very successful primary approach to learning and leads seamlessly into the middle school at the end of Year 4 when pupils from many other schools also join the middle school for the start of Year 5. Middle school education provides specialist teaching in specialist areas such as the science laboratory, the design technology and cookery suite, as well as a dedicated ICT suite, but this specialism is under pinned by the personalisation of the curriculum and the supporting approach to independence. Middle school class sizes are between 18 and 24 pupils in order to put children at the heart of all we do and prepares them well for transition into high school. Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of the young people in our care. We work closely with all of our families to aspire and achieve the very best outcomes for every single pupil. As one former parent said, we are, ‘the best kept secret in Worcestershire’. We welcome visitors and pupils from all areas. Lynn Evans Executive Headteacher

ABBEY PARK FIRST AND NURSERY Welcome to our Early Years, which includes separate Nursery and Reception classes, where teaching and learning is fun and inspiring! As Ofsted recently wrote: “Teaching in the Reception class is imaginative and inspiring and the adults are exceptionally skilled in making sure that all children are well supported and challenged. As a result, children make outstanding progress.” In our Early Years, we are an enthusiastic team of highly skilled teachers and teaching assistants, who are registered as having “exemplary practice” at the Local Authority.

ABBEY ROAD PRE-SCHOOL Abbey Road Pre-School has the motto ‘Inspiring Children to Learn’ and that is exactly what we do. We provide high quality child care in a stimulating environment on the Abbey Park campus, for preschoolers from 2 years of age. We are extremely proud of our recent Ofsted Judgement of ‘Outstanding’. Ofsted found “children have a wonderful time, the extremely capable attentive manager and staff, skilfully reassure children and build on their confidence”. We have funding available for 2 and 3 year old children. 4

Our school motto of “Working Together, Learning for Life”, is something that both staff and children are inspired by. The Early Years Nursery and Reception classes work closely together along with the on- site children’s centre and pre-school. This strength in the Early Years was recognised by Ofsted: “The Early Years Foundation Stage Leader is an outstanding role model in her own teaching. She has worked very effectively to ensure that teaching and learning has improved across the Early Years.” Sati Witts Head of Early Years

We have a fantastic team of highly skilled staff who ensure that the children are provided with a warm, caring and nurturing environment. We focus on inspiring young minds and encourage children to become independent learners who embrace challenge. There are smooth transitions at every stage. Children in our Nursery are very much part of our whole school and the journey through to Reception and further up the school is seamless. This is a strength of our school because we value and promote strong partnerships between parents, carers, teachers and children. We work closely with all staff at Abbey Park Middle School to share expertise and ensure that the children transfer successfully to the next stage in their learning. When children move up into Year 5, they are not simply moving schools but growing and developing within the Abbey Park Federation. The classrooms and other learning areas are bright and vibrant which provide a stimulating environment where our children are inspired to do their very best. In our recent Ofsted ‘Parent View’ survey (Feb 2017) 100% of parents feel that their child is happy and makes good progress at our school. Claire Mitchell Head of First School

ABBEY PARK MIDDLE SCHOOL Our pupils work hard in a happy and demanding environment in which their achievements are valued. Abbey Park Middle School’s motto is ‘inspiring excellence, including all’ and that is just what we do. Alongside excellent teaching from subject specialists, we provide a wealth of memorable learning experiences and challenges for each and every one of our pupils.

Middle School offered my child a nurturing environment, with specialist teachers and resources, whilst allowing her to develop her independence in preparation for high school. Parent 12

www.abbeyparkfirst.worcs.sch.uk

Having worked in middle school for my entire career, I am a firm advocate of the three tier system and once asked a class their opinion of middle school. I shall always remember the response from one particular pupil. In his words ‘Middle school is like a bridge over a canyon. Some children will run across, but others need more support, so we can all cross together, safely from first school to high school. Without the bridge, we would stumble and fall’. This is a perfect analogy, which hi-lights the caring, supportive nature of our school. Nikki Poole Head of Middle School
