Welcome...

To the second volume of our new-look Fosters brochure. In March 2013, we launched a range of preserves, chutneys, cakes and confectionery and we have been delighted with customer feedback and sales have far outstripped expectations. New for this autumn is a delicious collection of new and improved flapjacks, muffins and table condiments as well as two brand new categories; individual cake slices and cooking sauces. All have been developed from scratch to ensure they meet the new Fosters brand objectives. Here is an overview of our journey over the last 18 months and how we have reinvented the Fosters brand...

About Fosters

A difficult market in need of investment

Despite the economic slowdown, big branded suppliers and small manufacturers alike have developed ranges to target specialist independent retailers whilst ‘regional’ brands have benefitted from improved distribution methods to service customers further afield. As a result, a smaller amount of spend is being shared across more brands and suppliers, making the specialist food market fragmented and the role of buying quite complex. For over 35 years, Fosters Traditional Foods has serviced the independent retailer with ambient fine foods. The company started as a Leicestershire-based van sales operation selling biscuits but over the decades both the range and distribution reach has been expanded in response to customer demand for speciality foods. Fosters is now one of the leading suppliers of ambient foods to the garden centre and farm shop market, with over 2,200 customers and a range of 3,500 products to meet our customers diverse needs. The Fosters brand has been at the core of our offering during the last 3 decades and we have been proud to see our brands on shelf in many of the leading independent retailers in the UK.

With diminishing returns, investment has been poor in this sector. Packaging design and product concepts have become dated in many categories. Disappointingly, much of the innovation seen in recent times has been launched with larger retailers in mind rather than having been developed specifically for the garden centre and farm shop sector. Whether or not the recent economic indicators are true green shoots of recovery for the UK retail sector, it is essential that key suppliers to this market support retailers by investing in product ranges and initiatives that will increase sales and most importantly, will pique consumer interest... turning footfall into actual cash through the till.

What you told us...

At the outset of our work, we undertook an extensive piece of research to find out what was important to our customers. The findings told us that there were three clear leading factors in choosing a brand (with % of customers answering important or very important): • Quality – 90% • Cost Price – 88% • Range – 84% You told us that the Fosters brand had “lost it’s way” with little innovation and general confusion about where the brand was trying to position itself in the marketplace. You also told us that you associated the Fosters brand with quality traditional foods and so it was important that our design still communicated this trusted image, whilst being up to date and appealing to both long-standing and new customers. This research was invaluable in setting out our plans for the Fosters rebrand project and ensuring that we were focusing on those things that you said really mattered to you!

So what’s new about the Fosters brand? New Quality Products

Our leading principles for the Fosters rebrand are quality and taste. Having benchmarked products from across the market, we found that there were a lot of fantastic products available but we took on the challenge to develop recipes which would be at least as good, if not better, than our competitors. Wherever possible British produce has been used in our Fosters recipes, but in some cases we had to look further afield for the finest ingredients that would deliver the taste we aspired to achieve.

BRAND NEW

For 2013

New Range

We know what sells well in the garden centre and farm shop market and it is essential not to forget the best sellers when developing a new and interesting range. We believe we have the very best with core lines such as our Fosters Scrumptious Strawberry Preserve, Fosters Rich Butter Sultana Slab Cake and our deliciously moist All Butter Flapjacks. However, we have also built on the range with some new innovative flavours and formats, including more hero lines such as the Fosters Strawberries and Cream Fudge Bar, Fosters Banoffee Sponge Cake and the current bestselling Fosters Jumbleberry Preserve. In total the range now encompasses 211 products, each of which has been developed to be individually outstanding, and together as a range will entice the customer to browse, buy and come back for more!

Design & Packaging

The main objective of our new design was to create a brand image with personality and on-shelf impact but which gives us room to communicate our food quality values. Strong colours and bold fonts have been introduced to front of pack, along with contemporary illustrations where space allows. We were also very excited to unveil our new bronze Fosters horse logo which appears foil blocked on all our products and features as an eye catching finish to our pre-printed jar lids; having moved away from the more traditional mop-top format. Every aspect of the packaging is therefore designed to incentivise the customer to pick up the product from shelf. Furthermore, we have added a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;tell me moreâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; panel on the back of the item which offers information about the product and its ingredients, as well as serving suggestions, in an effort to encourage consumer trial and increased use of the item.

Product Support To maximise impact in store, we have developed a new, high quality Fosters merchandising unit as well as a range of other support tools such as recipe cards, sampling event packages and resources for events in your outlet. Raspberry & Vanilla Macaroons made using...

Raspberry & Vanilla Macaroons 1. Preheat the oven to 210°C and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.

For the macaroons, whisk the egg whites in a bowl until firm, mix in the caster sugar gradually and then add the Langdales Natural Vanilla Extract. Once firm, fold in the icing sugar and ground almonds.

Spoon the macaroon mixture into a piping bag with a plain nozzle and pipe small discs onto the baking tray (about the size of a 2 pence coin), leaving room for them to spread. Place the tray in the oven and cook for 5 minutes (until the macaroons start to brown). Turn the oven off but leave the macaroons to rest inside for 30 minutes.

Arrange layers of semi-whipped cream, raspberry jam and fresh raspberries on the flat side of a macaroon then top with another to make a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining macaroons and filling and serve with the vanilla ice cream.

Welcome to the new look branded section in our 2013 Product Range. We have made a few changes to help you range products simply and successfully, adding much more information on top sellers and the brands we work with on an exclusive basis. The brochure is arranged in product categories with relevant sub-categories as part of this. Exclusive brands are at the front of each category; these are the products only available through us across the independent retail sector. Within each brand or product grouping we have arranged the table of products in order of best sellers throughout our independent retailers across the UK, the best sellers being at the top. For each of our exclusive brands we have added a short piece of background information, explaining a bit about their history or the product ranges. We carefully select the brands we strategically partner with to bring you a range of high quality, value for money products.

Ingredients & Baking

For this updated product guide we have fully reviewed our range and have added 524 new products through a combination of range extensions for existing brands and launching 21 new and exciting brands. We have added two new categories; Ingredients and Baking, and Hot Beverages and each category has been fully reviewed to ensure we can now offer you a “One Stop Shop” for all your ambient product needs.

Free From is a growing category as more and more consumers are demanding a greater selection of products. We have done a full review of our Free From range to present a broad selection of products, our range now covers most special dietary requirements including gluten and wheat free, dairy free and sugar free.

A new category for us is Ingredients and Baking, we have worked closely with new suppliers to bring you a full range of products, complementing existing brands such as Langdale's and Les 3 Toques with new additions such as Home Recipe Flans and Pastry Cases, Bart ingredients and Home Cook preserve and marmalade making ingredients. Home Baking is a growing market, the value of which has grown by 18.2% in the past year, now 41% of Brits bake at least once a fortnight and the average consumer eats home baked goods 4.8 times a fortnight

SUGAR CONFECTIONERY The Fudge Tree Co. The Fudge Tree Co was founded in 1994 and has its origins in rural Devon sourcing locally produced fudge and toffee for the trade and consumers in the West Country. It has since expanded its product range to now include 103 lines in both the sugar confectionery and gift categories. The reach of the brand has now exceeded the Greater South West and extends as far north as Scotland and as easterly as Norfolk! The latest incarnation of The Fudge Tree Co took place in October 2012 with the introduction of three exciting new product categories; Fudge Tree Co Premium Collection, Fudge Tree View Card collection and the Fudge Tree Country Collection The core offer within the Fudge Tree Co range is the “Fudge Tree bag” and still remains the bestselling product line to date. This extensive and colourful range of sugar confectionery includes 57 varieties of sweets and treats such as liquorice allsorts, mini eggs and dolly mixtures, as well as nostalgic favourites that hold sweet memories for all like wine gums, fruit salad and chocolate coated raisins. All products contain no added colours or flavours and are packed into a clear block bag showcasing the product content in all of its glory so that they can be merchandised as a wall of colourful confectionery. The whole of the Fudge Tree Co range can be retailed for under £10.00, with 89 out of the 103 lines retailing at under £3.00. As part of the brand review Point of Sale and merchandising stands are now available to increase the offer and flexibility to our customer. The addition of the narrow based stand has enabled our customers with limited floor space to incorporate a branded stand and best-selling confectionery range into their store. The Fudge Tree Co gives our customers the opportunity for a one-stop shop approach to their confectionery and summer seasonal gift requirements and we are convinced that stocking the new range our customers will benefit from an increase in both turnover and profit with these categories. Our jerky is also made on the farm in a dedicated factory with our special marinade mix and dried to perfection for a great texture. Prices

All prices shown are strictly net and are subject to change without prior notification. Every effort will be made to maintain prices, but exchange rate fluctuations, tax changes and variations on raw material costs may necessitate immediate price changes, and all orders are accepted on this basis.

New Accounts

Two satisfactory trade references must be received before a credit account may be opened. All initial orders must be pro-forma and paid for by cheque, credit card or by credit transfer into our bank account (please ask for further details).

Credit Terms

Our terms are payment within 30 days from the date of invoice, unless otherwise agreed. If payment is not made within the agreed terms, we reserve the right to charge interest at 2.5% above the prevailing base rate to the invoice value, excluding any interest or other costs should court proceedings become necessary. However if the debt is paid within the agreed terms no interest shall be payable. Re-presented cheques are all charged £10 for each representation.

Orders

You can place orders directly with your sales contact/territory manager or by email, telephone, faxing or writing to our Customer Service department in Market Harborough. Please state clearly your account number, product code, product description and quantities of items required. Please be aware that our product and price list is constantly changing and some items you order may not be currently stocked. If in doubt please call Customer Services on 01858 438000.

Deliveries:

Carriage paid orders are subject to a minimum order value, please contact Customer Services or your Territory Manager regarding delivery charges. Timed deliveries are subject to charges, please contact the Customer Services team for further details. Although every effort will be made to deliver goods as ordered, the group cannot accept responsibility for any delay for circumstances beyond its control and accepts no liability whatsoever for any loss arising from any failure to supply under any circumstances.

Cancellation of Orders:

All orders placed form a contractual agreement between both parties. We reserve the right to apply a cancellation fee for all cancelled orders: 28 days or less prior to requested delivery date – 40% of order value 14 days or less prior to requested delivery date – 100% or order value

Delivery Discrepancies Claims

Claims should be made to the Group’s Credit Administration Department telephone 01858 438062. All goods must be counted upon receipt and any shortage noted on the delivery note at the time of delivery. If customers are unable to check on receipt, the POD must be signed “UNCHECKED”. All goods must also be checked for damages upon receipt and any damage must be indicated on the delivery note at the time of delivery. If customers are unable to check on receipt, the POD must be signed “UNCHECKED”. Photographic evidence of the damage will be required to validate the claim. Any claim in respect of the above should be made by telephone (01858 438062), facsimile (01858 433606) or email (Julie.bedder@fosters-foods.co.uk) to the Group’s Credit Administration Department within 2 working days of the delivery. Claims submitted after this time will automatically be rejected. Goods which have been in your possession for longer than 21 DAYS cannot be refunded for credit. Credit cannot be given for goods that are already price marked. Product quality issues can be discussed with the Customer Services Manager on 01858 438065. In the interests of food safety, the Group cannot accept the return of opened or part packs of products unless by prior agreement with the above Manager. Please note: Goods cannot be returned without an uplift note.

Terms & Conditions

Title

Until payment in full of the purchase price, together with payment of all other sums due from the customer to the Blueberry Group Limited for the property in the product (The Goods), the Goods shall remain the property of the Blueberry Group Limited, but the risk therein and all liability to third parties in respect thereof shall pass to the Purchaser on delivery. The Purchaser shall keep the Goods in such a manner that they shall be identifiable by the Blueberry Group Limited. The Purchaser may sell the Goods in the normal course of its business but in a fiduciary capacity as bailee of the Goods and shall hold and pursue all claims to proceeds of their sale equal to the price of the Goods for and on behalf of the Blueberry Group Limited. In the event of non-payment by the Purchaser by the due date, the Blueberry Group Limited shall be entitled, in addition to all other rights, to enter any premises where the Goods may be, and recover possession of them. Unless specifically agreed in writing by a director of Blueberry Group Limited, this retention of title clause supersedes any other third party terms regarding retention of title.
