Among the sires of Royal Ascot twoyear-olds, Wootton Bassett stands out, not only for Gr2 Coventry winner River Tiber, currently Europe’s top-rated two-year-old, but for the fact that only No Nay Never among European stallions has sired as many as his three juvenile Stakes winners this year and he’s done it from only 14 runners, nine of which are already winners. They also feature Gr2 Coventry third Bucanero Fuerte who subsequently led a one-two home for Wootton Bassett in the Gr2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Derby day. First-season sires didn’t have a huge impact at the Royal meeting, but one that did is Blue Point who currently sets the pace alongside Soldier’s Call among this group with 15 winners apiece. Blue Point’s son Big Evs was an impressive three-length winner of Listed Windsor Castle Stakes and his reward from Timeform is a rating of 105p which has him among the top-ten two-year-olds in Europe this season.
