In 2011 and 2012, I participated in the InterCity Leadership Visit (ICLV). Sponsored by the St. Paul Area Camber of Commerce & the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce the ICLV includes a delegation of 90 community and regional representatives who travel to a select city. Launched in 2002, ICLV delegates have visited Seattle, Boston, Dallas, San Diego, Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte, Austin, Portland, Denver and Phoenix to learn about a city and regional best practices including: regional economic development, education and urban issues (transportation, downtown development, etc.), innovative initiatives and regional collaboration, transportation funding and integration of transit and high density employment centers, leveraging higher education for economic development, closing the achievement gap, especially in K-12 education, supporting entrepreneurs and creating a climate for innovation, building regional consensus for action on critical issues, such as water, infrastructure, etc.
