EXPLORE, STAY, ENJOY Schulenburg is nestled in the corner of Historic Fayette County, strategically located on I-10, 95 miles west of Houston, 105 miles east of San Antonio, 80 miles southeast of Austin and 65 miles north of Victoria.

Cattle and wildflowers share the rolling hills and open fields which surround it. Quaint painted churches and lively dance halls dot the landscape. Having stood for generations, they are symbolic of the area’s rich Czech and German heritage which is alive and well to this day. Schulenburg is the home of the Shorthorns, a venerable name in high school football and a satellite campus of Blinn College. It also has a Catholic

elementary school. Emphasis on education is appropriate since Schulenburg in German means “school town.” A number of local merchants have built such a strong reputation over the years that they are practically synonymous with the town’s name. New specialty shops continue to open their doors and modern manufacturing plants go quietly about their business, producing goods in Schulenburg that are shipped worldwide. Quality health care is available. Schulenburg is a great place to raise children, a great place to retire and a great place to visit. Incorporated May 19, 1895.

Plan your visit around one of the area’s church picnics, Sausagefest, the Schulenburg Festival or during the beauty of Christmas. The Annual Wine Walk is always the first Saturday in November, 90 Miles on 90 – literally 90 miles of garage sales and thrifty finds – is always held in June. Wine-O Bingo is held every February and September, and the Schulenburg RV Park hosts a monthly jam session.

Schulenburg is the epitome of what small town Texas is all about.

There’s always something going on in Schulenburg! www.schulenburgchamber.org

Schulenburg Historical Museum 631 NORTH Main Street, Schulenburg

Our mission is to identify, preserve, and display historical artifacts and events in order to educate our current and future generations about the development of Schulenburg and the lifestyles of our ancestors. The Schulenburg Historical Museum was established by John and Karen Wolters. John is the great-grandson of Robert A. Wolters who started a mercantile business in Schulenburg and became one of its more prominent citizens. The building housing the current museum exhibits was the old Wolters Mercantile built in the early 1900s. The museum has been housed in this building since 1988 at the largess of the Wolters family, but in December 2014 the Wolters estate gift-deeded the current building and the building next door to the museum.

OPEN

Friday & Saturday 10a.m. - 2 p.m. Other times by appointment. (979) 743-2403 schulenburghistoricalmuseum.com

Admission is free But donations are gladly accepted to help offset the cost of operations and maintaining two historic buildings. 12 | Visitor’s Guide 2019
