Blue Hills Community Health Network Alliance CHNA 20 Substance Prevention Coalition Newsletter April 2015 In this issue Greetings! Greetings! As you know, about a year ago CHNA 20 began its Start-up Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition Program. CHNA 20's goal for this program is give each coalition the information and guidance it needs to form a sustainable organization. Because of each coalition's location, population and target audience each new coalition may have its own style, but each has the long-term goal of reducing substance abuse in their community. CHNA 20 applauds the community members who are giving their time and energy to make a difference. The newsletter's purpose is to share information about individual coalitions, upcoming educational opportunities, and local & statewide events. Please feel free to share this information with your community. If your coalition would like to highlight an event or a successful strategy, please contact Arlene: agoldstein@baystatecs.org _________________________________________________________________

COLLABORATING FOR CHANGE The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office and the Brockton Area Opioid Coalition would like to invite you to the Plymouth County Communities Collaborating for Change Conference. This event will take place Thursday May 7, 2015 from 8 am to 3:30 pm at the Shaw's Center in Brockton. This full day conference will provide participants an opportunity to learn more about how to establish, maintain and sustain a successful community coalition to address substance use. The event will include presentations on addiction, best practices and advocacy for change. There will be no charge for this event. The purpose of this conference is to bring together communities funded through state and federal dollars, as well as unfunded communities throughout Plymouth County who are addressing issues that relate to addiction. In addition to existing coalitions, those invited include law enforcement, first responders, selectmen, school committee members, school officials, and boards of health. The conference will give communities an opportunity to learn more about how effective collaboration of partners can result in a wellorganized group that can push progress forward into sustainable change and positive outcomes.
