Rimi Yang November 2014
Rimi Yang As an expressionist painter, Rimi Yang imbues her lively compositions with swatches of juxtaposed colors that evoke primal emotions. Her paintings that portray women and horses impart sensory experiences that project an almost dreamlike trance — visions filled with vibrant hues and rhythmic melodies. The horses bow their graceful, arching necks and move forward in confident gait; the delicate female riders are carried along in perfect harmony by their steadfast steeds. Yang’s fashionable young Victorian women also stand alone in elegant poise, fluttering in and out of focus beneath a tapestry of moving colors and woven textures. The subjects are an embodiment of Yang’s own personality: they are quietly assertive, gracefully bold, and achieve tranquility through dynamism. With a nod towards a bygone era of romanticism coupled with mysticism, each of Yang’s paintings is a contemporary timestamp that marks a modern age of illusionary innocence.
