Z. Z. Wei: Shadow Stories

Page 1

Z. Z. Wei Exhibition at the Booth Western Art Museum On exhibit through June 10, 2018

Z. Z. Wei: Shadow Stories I paint shadow to paint light. Like yin and yang, light and shadow form a unique, organic unity. I want to emphasize their contrast and interdependence, all the while keeping them in dynamic harmony. Shadows give light its shape, volume, and weight by adding interesting aspects to ordinary and mundane objects. I like to paint them as if they are tangible that you can touch. They add rich and solid textures to my paintings and create visual and emotional tension. The interplay of Light and Shadow has always been an important element in my work. While light displays astonishing glories, shadow conceals mysterious tragedies.
