IT'S ALL ABOUT THE YARN Welcome to Blue Sky Fibers (formerly Blue Sky Alpacas). Why do we do what we do? Allow us to unravel it for you. Creating consciously crafted fibers and patterns is more than just our focus, it’s our passion. Ever since we started with a small herd of alpacas in our backyard, we’ve been committed to making yarn in the best way possible to show off its natural beauty. And while our exclusive offerings have grown beyond alpaca to include wool, organic cotton and silk, our desire for getting makers of all stripes excited about natural fibers and knitting hasn’t changed one bit. FIBERS Knitters are born makers and creators. They cannot exist on alpaca alone. So naturally, our selection of the highest quality fiber yarns has continued to grow. We are now becoming as revered for our specialty fibers, organic cotton, and premium pure Peruvian wool (Can you say Woolstok?), as we are for our luxurious baby alpaca. Presenting Woolstok, our new premium pure wool yarn. Created from the fleece of select Peruvian Highland sheep and processed in a state-of-the-art mill, it combines Peru’s textile tradition and today’s technical innovation with our signature aesthetic and commitment to quality. Strong and sturdy, yet gently plied to give it loft, lightness and a soft hand, Woolstok is a true workhorse yarn if ever there was one.

WHERE IT ALL BEGINS In what has become an annual custom, we recently traveled to Puno, Peru, to meet the source of our Woolstok wool. Here, once a year, the sheep are sheared before their fleeces are gathered into bales and brought to the mill for grading, scouring, carding, spinning, dyeing and plying. Only the finest of this clip is used for Woolstok.

We found no shortage of local roadside markets selling colorful, woven blankets and other tempting textiles that we were quick to purchase as gifts for friends, family, and of course, ourselves.
A CAPTIVATING COUNTRYSIDE The textures and colors of this craggy, unspoiled terrain have inspired spinners, dyers, weavers and knitters for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Needless to say, they’ve inspired us too.
