s I am writing this letter I find it hard to believe that another year has passed. It has been a successful year for MPMCA: a great Mechanical Expo, we secured an additional building for our thriving Backflow Educational Programs, the Specialty Workers Compensation Program paid great dividends, along with our work at the State Legislature and Coalition building with others in the Industry. It has, unfortunately been a year when we have lost a number of long time members and volunteers, as we have honored in the pages of these magazines. People like Lloyd Zill, Ed Theison, Louie Boone and Carl J. Gohm, Jr. As we look forward, we are finishing the process of developing the agenda for Michigan Mechanical PHC/Expo 2016 which will be held March 16, 2016, Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant. This is one of the premier state trade shows in the country. The Expo will feature the latest new products, technology and innovations in the plumbing, piping, hydronics and HVAC industries. Meet the manufacturer’s representatives and wholesalers of the products you use every day and get first hand information on the cost cutting tools and products of the future. Come and enjoy the expo and stay an extra day or two to relax and enjoy the many amenities of the family friendly resort. It is imperative that we take advantage of every opportunity to grow our business and make it more competitive. I would also like to invite you to take a look at the MPMCA’s website and explore all the advantages and opportunities of membership in MPMCA. Please consider planning to come out and visit the booths, meet the MPMCA staff, the board of directors and officers of the MPMCA. I look forward to seeing you there . . . [6]

Forget the worry of a flooded basement with innovative pumping solutions
We’ve always been control freaks Ion Technologies last much longer than traditional float switches
Ion Products digital level control systems utilize the Ion switch; a solid state sensing technology with no moving parts to wear or fail. They are designed to operate for over 2 million cycles.
Our controls warn you if your sump pump motor is starting to fail so you can replace it before the water damage happens.
Our controls warn you if it can't drain the sump pit
because the pipes are frozen, the pump is bad, the impeller is damaged, the cord is unplugged, whatever the reason.
Only if you have the Ion Solution can you really be fully protected. Call your Ion Solution Certified Installer today or find one online at www.ionproducts.net.

CONTI CORPORATION INCORPORATED AERIAL LIFT AND PLACEMENT TO CUT INSTALLATION TIME WITH ERICKSON INC. Last spring, industry contributor Conti Corporation cut the installation time of 13 chillers to the top of the JPM Chase building in Belleville, MI, down to two-and-a-half hours after utilizing the innovative method of air lifting via Erikson Incorporated. This efficient method of lifting and placement saved time and labor costs over traditional ground-based methods. Three months of meetings took place prior to the lift and placement between Conti project managers and Erikson operators. An initial site visit took place as well to determine lift sequence, rigging, and clearance for crews to enter JPM Chase property. Erikson utilized an S-64F Aircrane for this operation. The chillers were staged in the lot; the direct path to the rooftop was plotted. Safety was key during the operation and everything went as planned. This operation is a prime example of effective, efficient, and modern infrastructure installation and construction.
MSCA 2015 REACHES NEW HEIGHTS MSCA’s Annual Educational Conference reached new heights in 2015. This conference was held in Colorado Springs, CO, October 18-21. From inspirational speakers to invaluable roundtables (some became very large as seen in photo), mechanical service contractors were able to network and learn of new ways to be successful in business. The Annual Exhibitors Display, optional tours and entertaining social events rounded out this outstanding program.

MCA DETROIT CELEBRATES ITS 68TH YEAR OLD TRADITION – THE ANNUAL DUCK DINNER The Annual Duck Dinner was held for the 9th year at the Huron River Hunting and Fishing Club. All enjoyed the piano and sax background music! This year Mike Melaragni was honored for his past success with the Local 98 Plumbing Training School. He will be missed. John Nussbaum was also honored for his many years of service to the industry as well as his great bounce-back from a serious injury. Congratulations to both gentlemen on all fronts from MCA Detroit! This very special evening has a long history (68 years) and is for Employers to network and honor their staff. This year MCA Detroit had the highest attendance in the past decade!! Congratulations to Lawrence Uebele of Siemens Industries for having his name drawn and winning the beautiful hand-carved, wooden duck prize.
MCA DETROIT’S CLASS PRESENTED BY MCAA’S RENOWNED INSTRUCTOR JOHN KOONTZ, CREATING HIGHLY EFFECTIVE FOREMAN/PROJECT MANAGER PARTNERSHIPS, WAS WELL-PRESENTED AND WELL RECEIVED! The Koontz class on Creating Highly Effective Foremen/Project Manager Partnerships had to have the venue changed THREE times to accommodate the high number of attendees! On October 6, 2015, John’s presentation targeted superintendents, foreman and project managers. He identified and explained the top 10 components that define a great partnership. He then showed how these components specifically apply to critical project management topics such as planning, scheduling, cost control, productivity, fabrication, contract management, documentation, change order management, customer management.
