PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Nancy Cummins ®

® Lloyd Zill - We Thank You!

A

s the military bugle pierced the air, with the second bugle echoing, Lloyd Zill was laid to rest next to the love of his life, his wife Mary Jean.

Lloyd was special to so many in the industry, but especially to Hutzel Plumbing where he and the Zill’s were family. Lloyd, Bill Romelhardt, and Gene Cummins, my father-inlaw bought Hutzel Plumbing in 1967. Lloyd Zill was a unique individual who improved the industry through his years of service. With his commitment, dedication, and participation our industry has benefited greatly. As a member of the MPMCA Board of Director’s, the Government Affairs Committee, Negotiations, Coalition for Fair Utility Competition, and the PMC Board, we have all benefited from his keen sense of industry awareness. With a genuine personality, he has been involved and very concerned with where our industry is at, where it is going, and how we can best get there. Lloyd had been on the MPMCA Board for years and continued to serve as his career was winding down. He is irreplaceable as his experience, knowledge, good judgment, and overall personality made our association and industry, along with each of those he worked with, better. Lloyd and Mary Jean, we thank you for the countless hours you gave to the industry that provides a livelihood for all of us. I am honored to have had you as part of my life. The experience has enriched the lives of both Scott and myself. You will be missed!

Forget the worry of a flooded basement with innovative pumping solutions

We’ve always been control freaks Ion Technologies last much longer than traditional float switches

Ion Products digital level control systems utilize the Ion switch; a solid state sensing technology with no moving parts to wear or fail. They are designed to operate for over 2 million cycles.

Our controls warn you if your sump pump motor is starting to fail so you can replace it before the water damage happens.

Our controls warn you if it can't drain the sump pit

because the pipes are frozen, the pump is bad, the impeller is damaged, the cord is unplugged, whatever the reason.

Only if you have the Ion Solution can you really be fully protected. Call your Ion Solution Certified Installer today or find one online at www.ionproducts.net.

AIA (AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS) CONFERENCE Cassandra Mudloff attended the MCA Detroit sponsored 72nd AIA Michigan & AGC of Michigan Conference held at Mackinac Island in August. Regional Director, Steve Vogel shared the struggles and successes of architects working with prevailing wage issues, actions needed with the legislature, as well as obtaining younger individuals for the architectural field. Multiple presentations on the trends and opportunities in the construction industry for architects and constructors were enlightening. Educational opportunities discussed were very valuable as well. Special activities were designed for youth, teens and adults resulting in very special networking opportunities. On left: Cassandra Mudloff

During discussion of the latest news and projects out there, it is clear that there are multiple colleges and universities around the county that are upgrading and expanding their facilities.

In fact, students know little of what this profession is about. This program’s success is a direct result of many years of team work and collaboration between education and industry partners to recruit and train students in HVACR”, adding,” “Pursuing this degree path will enable students to have a better future.” The West Michigan Mechanical Contractors Association was established to represent and service its members in Grand Rapids, Muskegon and the Lakeshore areas of Michigan. Safety Pays As Specialty Contractors Workers Compensation Group Program Members Earn Workers Compensation Dividend of $180,530 Participating Businesses Share Workers Compensation Group Dividend from Accident Fund Insurance Company of America

O

ver 50 businesses will share a $180,530 premium dividend thanks to safe work practices and their participation in a workers compensation group dividend program available through the Specialty Contractors Workers Compensation Group Program who belong to one of the following trade associations; Michigan Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association, Michigan Chapter of the Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning National Association, the Michigan Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association and the Detroit Chapter of Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning National Association. The 15 percent dividend returned is based on each participant’s premium costs and range from $120 to over $15,000, with an average dividend of over $3,540. In addition to dividend opportunities, the Specialty Contractors dividend program offers participating businesses a five-percent discount on their workers compensation insurance premium rates. While keeping people healthy and injury-free is vital in its own right, it is also an important factor in the ability to earn a dividend. Safety at work leads to fewer injuries and fewer workers compensation claims. “It’s a fact – safety pays. A safe work environment is not only great for employees, it’s great for the bottom line,” says Theresa Ross, Accident Fund’s group program consultant. “We’re proud to be able to present the Specialty Contractors Group with this dividend for members in this program.” Accident Fund’s Loss prevention consultants work with policyholders on safe work practices and teach employee safety training. The company also offers an online “tool box” where policyholders can link to federal and state workplace safety websites. “Encouraging safety in the workplace while offering a Association-only plan that can provide real money back is definitely a win-win situation,” said Cynthia Maher,CAE, Executive Director of Michigan Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association. “The Accident Fund Workers Compensation Program is one of many innovative strategies we have put in place to help our members more effectively control their costs.” Accident Fund Insurance Company of America Accident Fund Insurance Company of America is a member of Accident Fund Holdings, Inc.
