Guss, Stabwerk und Schichtung Construction

Professor: Assistant: Students:

Annette Spiro Corina Trunz Jacopo Bianchi Sara Godly

October - November 2015

Exercise: In order to learn basic construction methods, the aim of the project is to create spaces starting from a lantern built as an introduction. For every construction method we had a material for the construction of the model: gypsum, clay and wooden sticks.

Realization: In our project weve tried to maintain the same character for all the different objects, even if they were built with different materials.

November - Decembre 2015

Exercise: Starting from a roof typology as reference, the exercise consists in building a hostel on the lake bank in Auslikon (ZĂźrich). Particular attention was given to the construction of the foundation.

Realization: An important aspect of our project was to allow a dynamic and uent movement to the user. The structure offer different situations of public space (internal and external) and is created by the volume of the little and highly private cells containing the beds. The entire building is made out of timber. From the foundation to the roof, we decided to unify all the elements by using the same material.

March - April 2016

Exercise: The first phase consisted into choosing a building in Zürich. Then we had to modify the function, program and aspect of the building.

Realization: The vertical development of the object, build in an extensive and flat park in Oerlikon (Zürich), allow us to extend the structure in a horizontal way. By placing platforms every two steps of the stair, we created spaces for a vertical gym, where every step is planned to do some exercise. The form of the platforms follow a system of three elliptical template that are overlapped in constant alternation, giving a dynamic form to the structure.

The project was selected as one of the best 25.

La Rondine Structural design

Professor: Assistant: Students:

Philippe Block Alexandra Grieder Jacopo Bianchi Anna Clocchiatti

April - May 2016

Exercise: Every group received a parcel in ZĂźrich for the construction of a market hall. The project was realized by giving a particular importance to the structural and engineering aspect.

Realization: The structure is made out of steel and glass. The same element is repeated and changed a few centimetres in every layer, in order to follow the shape of the parcel. The result is a progressive changing structure where every element, changing the form, give a precise movement to the building.

The project won the ďŹ rst price of the Structural Design course (2015-2016).

Rondine

Professor: Assistant: Students:

Christian Kerez Federico Rossi Jacopo Bianchi

May 2016

Exercise: As first phase every student has to choose an object or a situation by which hes fascinated. The abstraction of the element that cause this fascination should start a process that end in the designing of a building.

Realization: The chosen object was a flag. The transformation of a bi-dimensional image to a 3D element was the star- ting characteristic of the project. The building consists in a series of 75 thin profiles. The reduction of a profile to a minimal width will represent the 2 dimensions. These profiles change in every layer. The ensemble of the elements creates a movement in the floor and on the roof reaching the third dimension.

Exercise: The Studio Emerson has a piece of land in Hönggerberg (Zürich). Every semester the professor with the whole team of assistants and students realize some work in the garden.

Realization: In the first semester of the second year we had to build a pavilion in the garden. With the spring in the second semester we had to work with some planting. The whole project has to do with the cooperation of nature and the structure and how to combine the two elements.

Contructing Nature: The Point Architecture

October - decembre 2016

Exercise: The Lange Erlen, an extensive park based in the north-east part of the city of Basel, is the ideal place to work within a natural landscape based in one of the biggest urban centre in Switzerland. The exercise consisted in a small intervention (a point ) where the human presence could ďŹ nd an ideal cooperation with nature.

Realization: Starting from an old railway infrastructure, we decided to use the tracks as a promenade in the park. Our intervention consists in a small concrete construction, which could offer a break during the walk. The project was realized paying attention to every detail, with high sensibility in their arrangement as prime priority. The focus was to design the elements in order to create a sculptural place, where people could enjoy the interaction between nature and the concrete structure.

February - May 2017

Exercise: Starting from a composition of everyday objects, we had to abstract the form and build a construction along the Limmat in ZĂźrich. Particular attention was given to the static of the construction.

Realization: Our group decided to build a pavilion in Wipkingen Park. In the summer is a highly crowded zone. With our pavilion, which is developed along the whole park, we offer the possibility to drink something, relax in the river zone and to stage pieces of theatre and live concerts. The pavilion is an ensemble of elements that works with the same static concept, but changes in the form. The result is a dynamic structure developed in the park with an organic appearance.

The project was selected as one of the best 10.

February - May 2017

Exercise: Situated in the Lange Erlen of Basel, like the ďŹ rst semester, the project consists in the construction of an apartments building.

Realization: The Lange Erlen is slowly absorbed by the city. With our project the idea is to stop the growth of the urban fabric that is invading the natural context. We decided to work in the most critical place, with a proposal to extend it in other territories. The building is a line that should stop the city. The object, a urban construction, is done with timber, a material taken from nature. This new residential complex could be seen as a transition zone from a natural context into a urban one and vice versa. The linear form of the building is like a cut that should stop the invasion of the city. The apartments are organized in order to give a particular freedom to the user. Indeed the inhabitants could choose dimension and organisation of the spaces.

September - Decembre 2017

Exercise: The task was to realize a new museum in the city of Zürich. An existing building was part of the parcel.

Realization: The irregular parcel is situated in Pflanzschulstrasse in Zürich. The building is divided in two parts. Each part follows a different direction: the east one is the continuation of the perimeter building, the west one follow the street. The new construction is placed over an old industrial building, which is also part of the museum. Every room, in the old and in the new part, could offer a different light and spatial situation. The union between new rooms and the one of the existing building create a continuous circulation for the visitors.

Exercise: Nowadays is industrial production in modern cities a difficult theme. The aim of the project was to bring this production in a city like Zürich, which is rapidly evolving in every part of the urban fabric.

Realization: The project consists in a building for art production. The building is placed between an industrial area and a living one. The first element of the building consist in large blocks that developed along the whole width and which are used as laboratory (every block is used for a different material). Where theres no laboratory, we find ateliers for artists with different compositions (east side), connection and stairs (middle) and an exhibitions area (west). The building is a collage of different spaces, light situations, irregular connection, that represent the irregularity of art production, but at the same time are efficiently planned.
