[PROJECT] MIND STORY
OBJECTIVE
To mentally and physically record something in daily routines, then design a book around this experiment. This book is about dreams. Dreams are visible, hearable, and even touchable, but only when we are asleep. APPROACH
This was a seven-day dream observation. The four stories were t old in the form of writing, photography, and drawing. E xperimental type and layout convey the mystery between the abstraction and the realism of the dream. PROJECT DETAILS

[PROJECT] WALLY REDESIGN
OBJECTIVE
To redesign an existing application. Wally is a mobile app designed to take control of spending money. The original design lacked intuitiveness and was visually outdated. APPROACH
The major changes from the original app are information architecture and visual design which makes the new version more intuitive, usable, and modern. The new Wally is organized with a unique iconography and graphs that clarify the complexity of money. PROJECT DETAILS

[PROJECT] PANIC ATTACK
OBJECTIVE
To interpret the idea of entropy through typography, then design a poster. Entropy means the disorder and deterioration of a system. In my interpretation, entropy is embodied as a panic attack where fear and anxiety occur unexpectedly. APPROACH
A set of typography which gives a sense of shaking and disorder created by the use of printing and photography techniques. The use of different materials such as glasses, plastic, and water helps to create the abstract shape of the type. The destroyed bold sans serif is intended to show repeated panic attacks, losing control, dizziness, and going crazy, yet it is still legible. PROJECT DETAILS

[PROJECT] THE SEPTEMBER 11 PHOTO PROJECT
OBJECTIVE
To redesign an existing book by borrowing its content and photographs. The September 11 Photo Project was a not-for-profit, community-based project in response to the September 11 attacks and their aftermath. APPROACH
The narrow tall proportion of the book takes its shape from the two great buildings of the World Trade Center. The gloomy color spotted with orangey-red, the powerful structural layout, in contrast to the delicate typography reveal the grief of the event. PROJECT DETAILS

“The photo of the firefighter with the flag on his helmet still moves me close to tears every time I look at it.” 56

by Thomas Breuer

I worked on the 59th floor of World Trade Center One at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood, llp. All but one of the 6oo people we had working in the building got out alive. I didn’t know that as I stood in horror on my way to work on 9/11 watching as the second plane crashed into tower two. It took less than 30 seconds for it to sink in that this was no accident and that something horrible was happening on the Island of Manhattan that day. I wanted no part of it, so I went right home to be with my wife and two children. I was one of the lucky ones in many ways. Thoughts of others weighed heavily upon my heart. For that day and the next I felt helpless. My backyard was so quiet and peaceful. I just wanted to do something to help, anything. I was lucky to have a friend in the nyc Fire Department, who helped get me into Ground Zero to work on the bucket brigade. On September 13th and 15th I dug through rubble where the former wtc One building stood; for all I knew one or more of my coworkers was trapped in an air pocket below. Unfortunately, no more survivors were found after the 12th.
I worked the main pit, amongst the real heroes, the firefighters and police who were working themselves till exhaustion looking for survivors and their fallen comrades. They would rest for short intervals only to be drawn back to the pit after thinking about the grieving family members who were counting on them. Everyone had a tremendous respect for the ironworkers without whom progress of any sort would not have been possible. These guys were the Clint Eastwoods of our generation, some real tough men. It felt like war and smelled like death down there. I took a photo from inside the World Financial Center looking out the window at the rubble heap. The photo of the firefighter with the flag on his helmet still moves me close to tears every time I look at it.

The march north up the fdr was the only apparent safe way out. As I started up the fdr, there ea another rumbling and someone started shouting, “Black cloud, black cloud. That was the debris cloud from the second tower falling. The wind was blowing east, so the debris cloud quickly cover everything.

[PROJECT] BLUSPACE
OBJECTIVE
To develop a new brand that solves an existing problem. Bluspace is an ideological brand selling an idea of minimalism; a way of eschewing the non-essential stuff in order to focus on what is truly important. APPROACH
The brand name was inspired by the name “Blu” and the word “space,” conveying the brand soul which is “giving more room for your freedom.” The choice of sans serif typeface pairing, the clean layout, and the geometric graphic elements shows the negative space and the simplicity of life which is what the brand is trying to communicate. [PROJECT] SELF-HELP BOOK COVER SERIES
OBJECTIVE
To design a book cover series. The design of self-help books is sometimes dull. This is a great opportunity to bring the good inside the book out. APPROACH
The color and type are used as graphic elements to c reate contrast. The big bold type of the book name intends to grab the audience’s attention, while the smaller parts of the questionnaire gives a hint of what is inside the book. PROJECT DETAILS

[PROJECT] SOLEIL TYPE SPECIMEN
OBJECTIVE
To design a promotional brochure for the typeface Soleil. Soleil is a geometric sans serif font designed by Wolfgang Homola and published through TypeTogether in 2011. APPROACH
Soleil’s special characteristic is asymmetrical counters w hich immediately sets it apart from other geometric sans serif typefaces, giving it a more fluid and contemporary feel. The design uses a complex structural format and bright colors intended to show the fun aspect of the typeface. Displaying the type in different sizes and scales can help the viewer see its uses and its unique personalities. PROJECT DETAILS
