AREA II

From the President

Dear Athletic Supporters:

Thank you for your support of all of our Irish sports teams. McGuinness has a great tradition of athletics and academics and the arts. I am very happy to be here as your new president. With David Morton’s retirement, it took two of us to take his place. Athletics teach us how to work as a team towards a common goal, knowing that sometimes we win and sometimes we don’t, but that is life.

As we begin a new year, let us pray that all of our athletes will do the best they can to stay safe and play like a champion. I know for our football and basketball teams this will be hard due to the loss of their teammate Zach Tawwater. However, his spirit will remain with them. May God bless all of our athletes, their coaches and staff as we begin a new year of Irish athletics.

God

A Prayer Athletesfor

God grant us the grace to play to the best of our ability and in a spirit of healthy competition. Watch over us, keep us safe and help us to always remember the ultimate victory is over the cross for everlasting life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

AREA II

From the Principal

Column inches in newspapers covering high schools are often more concerned with athletics, rather than academics. It is certainly true that since joining the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association in 1968, a great deal has been written about athletic success at Bishop McGuinness. From 1968 to the present, the school has won 107 state championships in every sport except for softball and wrestling, most recently girls golf in the Spring of 2024. Our athletic heritage, the commitment of the coaches, and the hard work of the athletes are all cornerstones of the history of the school. We are exceptionally proud of our athletic achievements over the years, and these tremendous accomplishments are built on the foundation of faith, family, and academics.

With the arrival of Fr. Rick Stansberry as President of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, the spiritual leadership of the school is in safe and strong hands. His leadership supports faculty and students as they navigate their questions of faith with guidance and care rooted in Christ. This school is a Catholic college preparatory school; our focus on a Christ centered education provides the foundation for success in college and beyond.

Individualized academic plans for every student create pathways that prepare students for life after high school. As the Archdiocesan school, Bishop McGuinness welcomes students from Goldsby to Cushing, and from El Reno to Harrah. We are immensely proud of our students, and the talented faculty that work with them every day. In May, 324 students took 650 exams in 24 Advanced Placement courses with a pass rate of 87%. In addition 127 students received the designation of AP Scholar. The number of students, exams taken, and pass rate are all record highs. All students are given the opportunity to take AP courses and we received the Gold Award with Equity and Access last year from CollegeBoard.

All children are made in the image of God and this year we launched the Rother program so that we can serve all children in our community, even those with extensive support needs. In the past, we did not have either the faculty with the required skills in Special Education or an academic plan in place for these students. This non-diploma track is to educate students with intellectual disabilities, preparing them for transitional programs offered by universities nationwide.

The school’s mission statement asks our students to be “a person for others.” This requires them to answer a difficult question. What are you willing to do without asking for anything in return? Our students rise to that question with their actions, in the classroom, in athletics, in the community, and walking the halls of Bishop McGuinness.

I look forward to seeing you at all our activities, from athletic competition, to our fine arts programs, and campus ministry events. You will see our students flourish and thrive in the Christ-centered education that Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School offers.

Go Irish!

Yours in Christ,

From the Athletic Director

Dear Irish Faithful,

Welcome to Clement Pribil Stadium and Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. On behalf of the coaches, student-athletes, and my fellow faculty and staff, thank you for your support of Irish Athletics.

Our coaches are proud of our tradition of excellence and their roles in our noble mission to form “people for others”. We have been loyal members of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association since 1968 and lucky enough to bring home110 state championships! Please support our mission and our membership by cheering positively for the Irish rather than against our guests. Remember these sportsmanship guidelines courtesy of the National Federation of High School Sports:

1. Show respect for self and others at all times.

2. Show respect for the officials. Good sportsmanship implies the willingness to accept and abide by the decisions of the officials.

3. Know, understand and appreciate the rules of the contest. Good sportsmanship suggests the importance of conforming to the spirit as well as the letter of the rules.

4. Maintain self-control at all times. Prevent the desire to win from overcoming rational behavior.

5. Recognize and appreciate skill in performance regardless of team affiliation.

Go Big Green!
