Tonight, in a special way, we honor Dale and Lynn Piggush as our Honorary Chairpersons. Bishop McNamara has been an important part of both their immediate and extended families. Dale’s five siblings all graduated from St. Patrick’s High School/Bishop McNamara High School, as did Lynn’s five sisters. Dear Friends and Family of Bishop McNamara, This event will mark 37 years of Bishop McNamara’s Annual Dinner Auction. It is a great honor for us to be chosen as the honorary chairpersons for the 2020 auction, which is aptly themed “The Roaring 20s”. This year has not been easy for any of us. It seems 2020 is constantly finding new hurdles to throw at us, and yet people are still eager to give back to this wonderful school. We are amazed with the amount of support from the community as we try to navigate through what we’ve come to know as the “new normal”. Our school’s biggest event of the year is transitioning to an online platform. The Bishop McNamara Advancement Office and this year’s chairpersons, Jeremy and Laura Andersen, have put in a tremendous amount of work so people from all around can participate in a virtual auction. Our relationship with the Bishop McNamara family actually began over 25 years ago, when our eldest daughter, Lauren, was only 18 months old. Other parents warned us that we should quickly get her on a waitlist for a good kindergarten. That was surprising to us and seemed unnecessarily premature. However, we soon found out just how right they were. Kindergarten classes fill to capacity rapidly, especially at quality schools. We chose Maternity BVM, or as it’s now known, Bishop McNamara. Since then, we have cultivated a fantastic relationship with the school and the community that we could not have gotten any other way. We look back fondly at those days, knowing we made the right choice for our children and ourselves. Bishop McNamara has given our children an excellent education as well as strong morals and values. We are incredibly proud of the strong, beautiful women they have become. Our daughter Lauren is currently working to become a radiology technician. Gina graduated from U of I with her bachelor’s degree in community health and is presently working to become a registered nurse. Michela, our youngest, is working towards a degree in computer science and plans to become a data scientist.

Although our girls are no longer at Bishop McNamara, we are happy to return and give back to so many young people in our area. While we cannot physically be together for this auction, we can still come together in support of this fine school. Even with all the adjustments and unexpected challenges we’ve seen this year, we can continue the tradition of excellence at Bishop McNamara. Go Irish!!

Their decision shall be final. The committee reserves the right to remove items from the auction if a minimum bid is not made.

The winning bidder should contact the donor directly to complete arrangements for vacations, special events, and services. Exact dates, times, and locations are to be mutually agreed upon by the donor and the winning bidder.

ENHANCE TECHNOLOGY PADDLE RAISE Past paddle raises have provided Bishop McNamara with STEM curriculum, the Blackbox Theatre, building enhancements, and tuition assistance just to name a few. These investments in our children and our school have strengthened the entire Bishop McNamara community. This year, our goal is to raise $30,000 to enhance the technology needed in these evolving times for both in-classroom and remote access learning. Last spring, our students and teachers leapt into the world of remote learning. We found new ways to deliver our curriculum. We turned to digital tools to temporarily replace the normal classroom experience. We innovated. Our teachers have now returned to the classroom this academic year with a suite of digital options that can be used to improve the in-class experience. Contributing to this year’s “Raise the Paddle” effort will replace aging computers with a goal of putting a brand-new smartboard presentation computer in every classroom in the entire system as well as additional updates to the internal network of each building. Helping us enhance the technology at all three of our sites serving students in preschool through 12th grade will ensure that our strong academic standards will continue as education needs evolve.
