the proposal discovery is something experienced throughout washington d.c., however, the martin luther king memorial library exists in its heart without emitting the same perception. to reverse this trend, steel louvers were designed which twist and deform to mask an image behind them. to see the image, people must move throughout the space, vertically and horizontally. creating this circulation allows a programming strategy that revives the sense of discovery in the building, while drawing attention to areas that are currently forgotten.

a dirty thought the gowanus canal in brooklyn, n.y.c. is the most polluted canal in the united states. however, a strong ambience of a thriving community marks the site as in need of an architectural intervention. the goal in live ends is to activate the dismal, underutilized dead end streets in the area and promote small business and recreation. a promenade connects interventions such as the docks together to bridge the gap over the canal, which currently acts as a barrier carving through the community.

making a statement scanton, p.a. has been in a steady decline in population since 1940. the area has a rich history, but a pushback against forward thinking ideas undermines attemps of reversing this population decline. the urban loft brings a new approach to the city; a way of uniting recreation and inhabiting space. while the building offers living space on its top 6 floors, it also provides a theater space for performances and speeches in the summer, and fills with water before winter to make an ice skating rink. this design reimagines the city.
