Fans in the Stands On Sunday, July 26, I attended Fans in the Stands at Alamitos Beach. Since the event was a region event, all divisions in Region 13 came together and supported the athletes that participated in the Special Olympics. We encouraged athletes by doing the generic G DOUBLE O D JOB GOOD JOB and S-U-P-E-R SUPER STAR IS WHAT YOU ARE cheers. Attending Fans in the Stands was an eye opener since I was able to witness the collective effort of the teams as well as the enthusiasm of the crowd. After the games were over, we were allowed to actually socialize and have fun on the beach. Since this was a region event, it was great to catch up with friends from different divisions as well as be able to do service alongside them. Overall, Fans in the Stands was a very memorable and successful service event and I look forward to attending similar events.

Adopt-A-Highway Adopt-A-Highway is a service project hosted by our sponsoring Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights. The student leadership programs, such as Key Club and Kiwins, gather together every first Saturday of each month to pick up trash along highways and main roads. On August 1, we cleaned up Colima Road. We split into groups and tried to pick up as much trash as we could. In order to create teamwork and have fun, we also count the amount of cigarette bud that each group collects. For every cigarette bud we pick up, Mr. Bashir would donate a penny. Our group accumulated around 300 cigarette buds, while another group gathered around 700. After volunteering, it felt nice to know that this service event not only cleaned up the community, but it also kept roads safe and clear.

On August 1st, 2015, I participated in the Hacienda Heights Kiwanis yearly Stuff the Bus at Wal-mart. I arrived at 8 am with the challenge of staying for all shifts, which overall is 12 hours long. Stuff the Bus is an event in which the Hacienda Heights Kiwanis attempts to literally stuff a bus with school supplies brought in from donations to help disadvantaged children in the HLPUSD school district. Alongside KIWINS, Los Altos Key Club, and Rowland Key Club, we were assigned to the responsibility of informing people about Stuff the Bus and asking if they would like to donate. At first, I was nervous and kind of defeated after constant denials and ignores, but after a few hours, I was basically like a robot as I was persistently asking people to donate. When I succeeded in obtaining donations, I would deliver the school supplies from Wal-mart to the bus and help organize everything. Overall, it was a great event as I was able to bond with others while promoting a proper education for disadvantaged children. -Dylan Tran Executive Assistant, Vice President

A Final Bark from the News Editor Hey Seals! Although some of us may not want to accept it, the 2015-2016 school year has begun. As we each have projects and assignments over the semester, remember to always be prepared and to not slack off. In any situation, procrastination will not help you because you will only delay, and possibly ruin, your chance to a successful future. Always give your best effort in your work because your life actually does depend on it! Now, I’m not telling you to exert yourself to the point of exhaustion. Relaxing and treating yourself when you have the time is always acceptable. However, that does not mean you can reward yourself every day. On that note, remember that every little moment counts, including your time spent on academics. Do not waste the possibilities! Whether you are free or bombarded with work, remember to maintain that Key Club spirit by volunteering in your free time, learning the spirit rally cheers, or even donating to local charities. Academics and sports are important right now, but you also have to prove that you can benefit society after high school.
