Fun Fact: The DCM was held on National Peanut Butter Day!
January DCM On Sunday, January 24, Division 35 West attended the January DCM at Legg Lake Park. At this DCM, Austin Ly, the LTG of our division, announced the next LTG elect, Dylan Tran. We then proceeded into making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to feed the homeless. These sandwiches were later given to the Union Station. I made these sandwiches for a good cause with my friends so this service experience became more valuable. I even met some pretty cool people there too. After the sandwich making, there was a scavenger hunt that the DLT members set up. Each member of the DLT had their own station with a different challenge for teams to complete. The challenges consisted of building a house of cards, a three-legged race, the Cookie Challenge, creating a team name and chant, and drawing a picture of Austin riding a seal while blindfolded. The team that won was rewarded with free pies. Finally, we concluded our day with a pie fundraiser. The money raised from the fundraiser was for the Eliminate Project. Members of our division paid a dollar for a pie so they could smear it into the DLT’s faces. I really enjoyed this DCM and everything that we did during it. Moments like that are why I continue attending every DCM.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, on February 18th, Kiwanis will have their annual Heart & Sole Project in conjunction with the Shoes That Fit program, where they give out over a hundred pairs of socks to needy or homeless students. Please try to collect new socks for children 4-18 years old. The Kiwanis clubs of Hacienda Heights "Shoes That Fit" program, Ashika Shoes, and Rowland Heights Senior Pathfinders along with RUSD Family Resource Center provided shoes and socks to 100 RUSD pre-screened children. Each child, pre-selected, will receive shoes, socks, and a book of their choice, as well as access to arts and crafts materials for making a custom Thank-You note for the sponsors.

A Final Bark from the News Editor Hey Seals! I hope that you are all doing w ell. Since it is the month of love, share your love to your friends, family, and community! However, it is crucial that you learn to love yourself first. Offering your love to others is a wonderful habit since everyone deserves affection and friendship, but sometimes, you forget to nurture yourself. As teenagers, many of us have insecurities and lack of self-esteem, and we tend to focus on our flaws rather than our strengths and capabilities. After all, we live in a materialistic society that is bombarded with social media, celebrities, ideal lifestyles, and other success stories; therefore we hold ourselves to impossible standards of perfection. People should always seek to improve themselves, but they must have a healthy and positive mindset in order to grow and mature properly. Nothing is gained if an action is done with negativity. Just because anger or hate is present does not mean that the capacity to love and accept is not there; love is always in you. Life is not a continuous escalation. Instead, it has many drawbacks, but those obstacles make you more strong and complete as a human. Although growth is painful, the results are absolutely beautiful. Continue to strive to be your best while also helping others in achieving their goals.
