Adopt-AHighway Every month, the Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights hosts Adopt-a-Highway, a community service project focused on cleaning roads and highways. Student leadership programs, such as Key Club, gather people from other schools to pick up trash from the streets. On October 3, there were many volunteers from other Key Clubs because half of them were new members, which I found exciting. Personally, I think that Adopt-AHighway is a fun service event because you socialize with friends and clean the community! I was put into a group where I wasn't with my friends and with people I never met before. However, I was able to meet new people and form new friendships. In this service event, I have the opportunity to bond with others while beautifying our city. It's also a wonderful feeling when people drive by honking in their cars to show appreciation for our hard work. I look forward to more of these environmentally beneficial projects because it helps not only our surroundings, but also our spirits. -Priscilla Cahyono

October DCM On October 10, Division 35 West alongside 12 members of our club attended the October DCM. Even with the harsh weather, I was proud to see the massive amount of attendees at the DCM still so happy and excited to participate. After the DCM, we proceeded to go into the spirit session. Compared to the past spirit sessions, the amount of energy and fun that we had was amazing. The cheers were improved thanks to the feedback given to our spirit task coordinators and I think that it was a great change. I had the honor of helping Amber Tai teach the cheers, and despite our group’s small size, I think that we had an impressive amount of energy. The people who were in the back or were scared to participate gradually began to cheer with us and that was great. After the spirit session, we cleaned the park, and then wrote cards for the brave troops and service men. I think that each DCM has steadily improved from the past DCM’s and I hope that this trend continues. -Dylan Tran

A Final Bark from the News Editor
Aloha Seals! Since it is finally the beginning of our new Key Club year, I will reintroduce myself for those who don’t know me. My name is Brianna, and I am the news editor for the 2015-2016 term. Initially, I wanted this position to motivate others to participate in service and club events and willingly contribute to the community. After a few months of being news editor, I completely fell in love with this organization because of its limitless positivity, kindness, compassion, spirit, leadership, and service. Seeing the multiple aspects of Key Club has changed and inspired me to become a better individual every day. Remember that being a better person doesn’t mean being smarter, stronger, or superior in some way. It means having better character and a positive mindset. By attending service events and being an active member, I have met a variety of people who all have the mindset of benefitting others. With the right experiences and friends, you learn so much more about life. Being an active participant of this club is the key to a life rich in wisdom, happiness, and success. Don’t fear of life’s opportunities. Just be positive! The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.
