Carbon Neutral As a Carbon Neutral (PAS 2060) business since 2011, we are dedicated to improving our own environmental impact wherever possible and, as our environmental performance improves, so does yours. By encouraging our customers to segregate recyclable waste at source, and using energy from waste technology for residual waste, we are able to divert as much waste from landfill as possible. Our comprehensive carbon management plan utilises the very latest technology to minimise our environmental impact across the entire business. The reduced carbon impact is offset through supporting a Turkish landfill gas reclamation project, as well as planting trees across the UK, including at some customer sites. We are also assessed to PAS 402:2013 standard which demonstrates our commitment to diversion from landfill.

Accreditations As a business, we take our responsibilities seriously and we pride ourselves on providing a top quality service. Our commitment is assured by the attainment of the following accreditations: • • • • •

ISO 9001 - the world’s most established quality framework ISO 14001 - an internationally accepted standard that is designed to reduce environmental impact OHSAS 18001 - a health and safety standard to ensure compliance with health & safety legislation SAFEcontractor - a leading health and safety assessment scheme to promote higher compliance standards Carbon Neutral PAS 2060 - an international specification demonstrating carbon neutrality

Mobilisation and training We are experts at rolling out multi-site complex total waste management solutions. You will be kept informed every step of the way by the mobilisation team and will receive a detailed project plan for roll out.

At the beginning of a contract roll out, our training helps all of your staff to understand the correct system of waste segregation. It aims to highlight the different waste streams and increase understanding about why each segregation method is in place. Training sessions can take place with small or large groups and a short test at the end helps to achieve full staff buy-in so your organisation can achieve the best possible recycling results. Comprehensive training aids health and safety of staff through correct use of equipment, as well as increasing recycling levels through accurate on-site segregation.

Environmental The hub reports

We realise that good customer service is the basis of every business and aim to understand the needs of our customers so we can consistently exceed their expectations.

We supply accurate environmental reports. We factor in the location of your site, your type of service and which recycling/recovery facility the waste is taken to daily. The report also highlights the equivalent number of trees which would need to be planted to offset the emissions had the waste gone to landfill, and the number of car miles (in a 2.0 litre diesel) saved by diverting a particular waste stream from landfill.

As a B&M Waste customer, you will have a dedicated account manager to assist with everything from service queries to environmental reporting and legislation updates. Our online customer hub means that you can easily view your compliance documents, KPIs and environmental reports, helping to remove the worry out of your waste service. We strive to provide your business with a quality, reliable service and are constantly refining our methods to ensure that we can reduce your waste costs. With landfill tax rapidly increasing, we believe the best way to achieve this is to improve our recycling/recovery rates through hard work and innovation.

Through our online portal, you can instantly see transactional data, as well as obtain copies of your environmental and KPI reports at the touch of a button. Contact Us

Legislation & compliance

Health & safety

All businesses operating within the UK are required to segregate recyclables from general waste where ‘technically, environmentally and economically practicable’ (TEEP) to do so.

The health and safety of our staff and customers is of the utmost importance to us.

For you to get the best out of our service, we add value by assisting you to comply with legislation. We are able to help you to achieve compliance with ESOS - a mandatory Energy Saving Opportunities Scheme, that applies to the UK’s biggest businesses - or ISO 50001 Energy Management Scheme.

We regularly train our drivers and operatives in safe systems of work - from manual handling to vehicle servicing - and also provide customer training when a new piece of equipment is installed. Each month, we focus on a different health and safety topic to promote safe ways of working to all of our employees in all areas of the business.

We also have a proven track record with Packaging Recovery Notes that comply with current regulations.

Simple solutions Trade waste services can incorporate options for General Waste, Dry Mixed Recycling, and Paper & Cardboard, as well as smaller containers for separate collections of glass or food waste. For larger volume waste producers we provide a Front End Loader (FEL) service. These robust steel containers come in a variety of sizes and are particularly suitable for easily compactible waste such as cardboard, paper, plastic and general office waste. Additionally, we can supply a range of skips and other large open top containers on a temporary or permanent basis, whether to help manage site clear-outs or to deal with ad hoc bulky waste.

Generating energy from waste To enhance our key objective of achieving zero landfill, we harness energy from non-recyclable waste (Refuse Derived Fuel or RDF) rather than sending it to landfill. After separating the recyclables, residual waste is compacted into bales at our RDF processing facility and swiftly transported to a Combined Heat and Power plant (CHP). Here, energy is produced to create electricity and steam for thermal heating systems. Overall, B&M Waste’s estimated carbon savings from using energy from waste equal 2,996 CO2eT per year. This includes drastic reductions in carbon emissions from truck mileage savings and sending significantly less waste to landfill. RDF is helping our customers achieve higher recycling rates than ever before and, consequently, they are able to prove their own green credentials.

Sector specific service We achieve the best results having developed an expert understanding across all sectors. Our customers are spread throughout the UK and we understand that each and every one of them has different requirements, for which we offer a bespoke, tailored solution, with recycling at the heart.

Facilities management / Property As members of the British Institute of Facilities Management, we recognise that each business requires a different approach and offer tailored options to ensure our service is right for each particular customer. For example, we are currently implementing bespoke compactor technology for many of our customers. We have also developed the B&M Waste Monitor, which is a unique system that measures the weight and quantity of waste of each bin, using a robust tagging system. This enables Building Managers to create bespoke invoices and environmental reports for individual tenants.

Total waste management B&M Waste offer total waste management packages to businesses that have many varied or complex waste streams. With bespoke proposals, equipment and training to fit the needs of each site, we pride ourselves on bringing the latest innovations in waste recycling to the table to allow you to improve the recycling performance of businesses with the most elaborate waste streams.

Retail Our retail customers have varied requirements, often possessing multitenanted complexes, for which we have introduced our latest technology, B&M Waste Monitor. This individually barcodes each tenant bin and every time a bin is returned to the on-site compactor it is weighed and content weight is calculated. Telemetry technology then enables individual bills for tenants relative to the weight of their waste, which in turn encourages those producing heavy bins to review and recycle more.

Manufacturing In manufacturing, we are making industry-leading progress, maximising revenue and recycling figures for our customers. Our recycling partners have expertise in separating reusable and valuable plastics. This service includes multi-layer separation, electro-static separation, paint removal and optical sorting. Our aim is to achieve not only zero waste to landfill but a closed loop recycling strategy. Many of our manufacturing companies have now achieved or almost achieved this goal.

With many prestigious Schools, Universities and Colleges as customers, we have a wealth of understanding about the approach required to obtain effective buy-in of reduction and recycling of waste streams. We offer assistance by supporting environmental days and re-use events, as well as providing literature relevant to the target audience, to further encourage recycling and improve environmental performance.

“

We have been working with B&M for the past three years now. From the beginning starting with the sales advisors to the customer support team everyone at B&M is friendly and always give excellent support and advice. I have worked with a few different waste collection companies and B&M is far by the best! Swinnow Primary School

Healthcare We understand the pressure on healthcare organisations to remain compliant on a tight budget. While helping healthcare organisations to reduce costs and landfill waste, we also increase their recycling rates. We reduce costs by evaluating the clinical waste that is sent for incineration. Often, organisations are disposing of offensive waste along with clinical waste. Segregating this saves a significant amount of money and lessens the environmental impact.

Hotels / Leisure Working with hotels and leisure facilities large and small, we offer segregation and on-site training options suited to the restraints of often small spaces, and high footfall.

SMEs For small and medium sized businesses (SMEs), it is important for changes to be financially viable and going green is one way to gain positive exposure, in addition to making potential savings.

All our operatives hold government enhanced Security Vetting Screening (SVS) checks and perform on-site and off-site confidential information shredding to BS EN 15713 standards. We provide a variety of container options for our regular scheduled service, in addition to ad hoc clear-outs, with a Certificate of Destruction provided after each shred. Media destruction With many offices increasingly reliant on technology, rather than paper documents, it is important to ensure that old or unused media devices are destroyed in a way that does not leave data open to theft or misuse. Items that we can destroy include: • • • •

Desktop computers and monitors Laptops Hard drives CDs and DVDs

We work with our hazardous waste team to ensure that any harmful components are disposed of compliantly, before recycling other parts where possible. A Certificate of Destruction is provided as proof of compliance with the Data Protection Act.

Branded goods destruction We recognise that many branded items require secure disposal. If uniforms, ID badges or other methods of identification get into the wrong hands, it can cause significant security issues and risk the confidential information of your business and customers. Product samples, faulty items, out of date stock or packaging with errors could damage the reputation of your brand if not destroyed and left available in the open market. We operate a simple process that enables you to have your branded goods collected and recycled by us, with a Certificate of Destruction provided each time.
