LATEST NEWS

WHAT’S GOING ON? The final quarter of 2010 is upon us and where on Earth did our year just go? Christmas displays are already in shop windows and sunglasses, flip flops and sun screen are all but a distant memory. Never fear, because with this seasonal change also comes great music, live comedy and other fun ways to spend your daytimes and evenings.

THE BRIGHTON COMEDY FESTIVAL KICKS OFF on October 8th, with the likes of Robin Ince and Tommy Tiernan. The lineup improves as the festival goes on with BN1 favourites and this month’s interviewees Julian Clary and Stephen Grant both performing throughout the festival. Other highlights include Frankie Boyle, Al Murray, Ardal O’Hanlon, Josie Long, Rich Hall, Jimmy Carr, Mark Watson and the amazing Stewart Lee. Enough chuckles in there to lighten even the dampest of moods, we’re sure you’ll agree. NEW BEGINNINGS It will be impossible to miss the influx of students, as is customary for this time of year as the new academic term begins. Expect the usual bar crawls and other nonsense throughout the city, with nights such as Stone Love (Digital, 1st October) undoubtedly packed to the rafters with fresh young faces. There is a free treat in Brighton Live, which is set to occur across Brighton on 5th-9th October, with 150 bands in 20 different venues performing around town. During Brighton Live there will be the BBC Introducing (at the Prince Albert), Juice FM (Latest), Radio Reverb (The Brunswick), BIMM and Brighton Source magazine. Most importantly of course is the BN1 Magazine presents area, with performances from many upcoming local acts, hosted at Ali Cats on the 6th. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by; at five days long and absolutely free, you have no excuse at all to miss out. Something a little sillier is scheduled for October the 30th, with the fourth annual zombie walk

4

OCTOBER 2010 WWW.BN1MAGAZINE.CO.UK

returning to Brighton in true Halloween style. Hundreds of the undead are expected to show up for the two-hour walk, which stretches through the centre of Brighton. Either join in with the costume fun, or simply go along to see the scores of zombies frighten members of the public. For more information, check beachofthedead.com. Elsewhere on the same night, you can find dozens of exciting and interesting things, all part of the annual Brighton White Night. Presented as an alternative to contemporary drinking culture and to celebrate the end of British Summer Time, the city will be buzzing with all sorts of curios, from an interactive installation in Jubilee Square to an at-sea artwork, a shimmering cloud of red lights generated by wind near the West Pier. With plenty, plenty more going on during the 13 hour night time festivities there’s certainly something for everyone. The fully detailed schedule releases on October 1st, and can be found on their website. ALL THE REST There are tons of things to do around town in October, including ‘Business Networking for people who hate Networking’ at the friends meeting house on the 7th, the ‘Frock Me’ vintage fashion fair at the Corn Exchange on the 24th, the ‘Brighton Breeze’ London to Brighton VW run on the 2nd and the Doggy Fashion Show in Hove on the 10th. So as usual, Brighton plays host to an amazing range and quantity of fun things to do throughout the month, even if it is the somewhat depressing end of what has been a fantastic summer!

LIVE MUSIC PREVIEWS

LIVE MUSIC PREVIEWS FRAZEY FORD

CHASE & STATUS

JUNIP Komedia: October 11th You probably didn’t know that Jose Gonzalez was in a band. The haunting indie-rock trio that is Junip, formed in the late 90s, found very muted success in 2005 with the release of their debut EP ‘Black Refuge’. After a five year cessation (a period in which Gonzalez has had much greater success as a solo act), Junip have reformed. Following the release of their sophomore effort ‘Rope and Summit’ last month they will be touring the UK from the 3rd until the 11th of October. Get down to Komedia on the 11th to see Gonzalez, Elias Araya and Tobia Winterkorn in action for what will certainly be an intriguing display of contemporary Scandinavian music, dominated by understated riffs and modestly composed acoustic rhythms. (AA)

FRAZEY FORD Brighton Ballroom: October 14th If you can, try to imagine the dynamic of a Canadianborn musician, whose sound is a composition of traditional American folk instrumentals with recurring shades of soul and a voice like a besieged cross between Joan Baez and Ann Peebles. This is probably not what Frazey Ford sounds like. But it seems this is as close as anyone can get to defining her sound which has been loosely labelled as ‘Americana’. Ford’s debut album ‘Obadiah’ was released in July of this year to a warm reception (in the United States at the very least) and Ford was said by the New York Times to be ‘eerily calm’ in her muffled throaty and ‘flickering’ soft vocals. It should be a soul-warming session at the Ballroom on the 14th so scoop up some tickets. (AA)

CADETS

22nd Oct 2010 supporting Darwin Deez @ Digital (16+) Cadets is a 3-piece band who play Latin tinged, electro indie pop, originally from the midlands who now reside in Brighton. Cadets are about to embark on a 10-day UK tour with Darwin Deez, Little Commits and Naive New Beaters.

CHASE & STATUS Club Digital, October 30th Producing for Rihanna, remixing for The Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal and Jay-Z, Saul Milton and Will Kennard have become one of the UK’s most successful Drum and Bass/ Hip-Hop/ Dub Step outfits of the last few years. You wouldn’t believe that they originate from the sleepy academic haven of Cambridge, traditionally littered with intellectual hippie types. For a taste of Chase & Status blaring out filthy electro and no doubt some of their finest mixes head down to Digital at the end of the month. (AA)

No money? No job? No prospects? None of the above? Lots of money? Great job? So Many prospects you’re bored to tears? Nothing to do from Wednesday 6th to Saturday the 9th of October? Love music?

LUCKY FOR YOU THEN THAT YOU’RE SITTING AIMLESSLY IN A PUB, your mate’s gone to empty their bladder and you picked up BN1 Magazine to fill the void. Read on: Asahi Beer, The Arts Council, The PRS Foundation for New Music and of course, BN1 Magazine brings you Brighton Live, a four day, free music event spread over 18 venues and featuring over 100, that’s right, 100 local bands. If you didn’t have enough money to go to Reading, Leeds, Glastonbury and the like or perhaps you didn’t fancy telling muddy sixteen you olds to get their own bollock warm lager but nonetheless had forgotten the benefit of living in Brighton, well then its time to start remembering again ok. Now, being the savvy reader that you are, you’ll be asking, “which bands?” or, more importantly, “why should I care?” Well this year’s line-up looks to be one of the most exciting in this event’s seven year history. BBC Introducing (at the Prince Albert), Juice FM (Latest), Radio Reverb (The Brunswick), BIMM, Brighton Source magazine and BN1 Magazine (Ali cats) will all host curate events this year so as to

8

OCTOBER 2010 WWW.BN1MAGAZINE.CO.UK

offer you, that’s right, you there, the opportunity to catch the stars of tomorrow, playing in small, intimate venues before they develop insatiable appetites for sex, drugs and alcohol, lose direction and develop egos directly un-proportional to the level of their talent and plough off our radars and straight into rehab and then into obscurity, going down in the annals of rock and roll history. This event will be the equivalent of when my dad said to me, “I saw Jimi Hendrix play at a small pub in Cornwall… there were only 5 people there who sat, mildly confused, as they silently quaffed cider”. The city will be divided into technically five musical zones. Read on - you will see what I mean:

ZONE 1: Kemptown. What a terrific hub of goodwill and party mayhem. Here amongst many other raucous goings on you can enjoy a Singing and Performance Seminar with Jo Harman downstairs at the Latest Music Bar. Whilst Upstairs, on Saturday, you can catch a seminar from The Brighton Fringe Workshop at 12:30 and a seminar on The Music industry at

BRIGHTON LIVE

So those are the zones and there’s a glimpse of what will be going on at all of them. Here of course we only have enough space to briefly fondle your unmentionables, arousing, we hope, more than a whisper of anticipation at the veritable orgasm of sonic delight that Brighton Live has to offer the pauper and the king alike. For full details please check out www.Brightonlive.net. BN1 Magazine Will be playing host on Wednesday 6th October at Ali Cats! Be sure to get your arses down for an evening of thrilling acoustic sets with three of our top choice local bands/acts! See ya all down there!! By Immanuel Guffogg

JUMPING SHIPS

14:00, Knowing Your Rights at 15:30 and, if your feeling randy baby, Music Industry Speed Dating at 16:00.

ZONE 2: The North Laines. As with all the Zones, there is a plethora of time honoured drinking holes to grab your attention as you flit like a magpie through the bustling bohemian streets. No where is this more true however, than in The North Laines. With that said, the aforementioned, BBC Introducing showcase at The Prince Albert, is likely to be a particular hot and I mean visibly sizzling hot, hot spot. For best results check the heat on Wednesday and Friday at 19:00

ZONE 3: The South Laines. All manner of twitterns will no doubt funnel drunkards seamlessly all day long to their intended destinations. Here’s where to go for the Launch party: It’s all kicking off at Madame Geisha’s on Tuesday the 5th of October. BN1 of course are on hand at Ali Cat’s to provide an evening of pure acoustic bliss. Renowned brokers of new talent, Source Magazine will also be hosting every night at Jam.

BN1 Magazine Presents @ Ali Cats: Wednesday 6th October The Light Fingered Folk The Light Fingered folk are Victoria Darby and Adrian Holloway. They first met up when festival favourites Wide Eyed Order were formed in 2008, and their love of alt-country, folk and acoustic blues cemented a firm friendship and strong musical partnership. Influenced by Ani Difranco, Turin Brakes and Kristin Hersh amongst others, they weave country tunes interspersed with folk and blues elements to create their own individual sound. Www.myspace.com/thelightfingeredfolk

ZONE 4: Hove. With only The Brunswick and the Beesmouth acting as Hove based Brighton Live venues this year, if you fancy getting away from the hustle and bustle, Hove’s going to have to be on your map. That being said, The Brunswick and The Beesmouth are both great venues so don’t expect the peace and quiet to last too long…

Tallulah May Singer and songwriter Tallulah May is becoming rapidly recognised on the Brighton music scene by her unique soulful voice and beautiful melodies. Tallulah’s influences include Nick Drake and Etta James, but one thing’s for sure; This lady oozes originality and charm that shouldn’t be missed. www.myspace.com/tallulahmay

ZONE 5: Brighton Marina/Seafront Area. The legendary back drop to all things Brighton. Here you can wander in wonder through The Sealife Centre Music tunnel which will feature lunchtime busking sessions Tuesday to Friday between 12:00 and 14:00. Also, roughly speaking in the vicinity of The Seafront will be Brighton Live’s Flagship Event at the Concorde2, Get Cape, Wear Cape. Fly. For Brighton Live the Marina Casino, normally where hopes and dream are made and dashed on the spin of a wheel or the turn of a card, will also play host to live music as well.

Jumping Ships Better known for their punchy post-rock and weighty vocals, Jumping Ships are going to be doing an acoustic set especially for us at Brighton Live. Seeing these massively accomplished musicians turn their talents to something a bit more tranquil is going to be awesome. Don’t miss the boat, people. www.myspace.com/jumpingships

STUDENT GUIDE TO BRIGHTON EACH YEAR THE DAWN OF OCTOBER HERALDS a new wave of fresh young students eager to embark upon the world of academia. With two universities welcoming the latest batch, there will be over 6000 new faces in the city, all keen to supplement their studies with copious amounts of partying, fun and inebriety. Here’s a quick rundown of the various drinking establishments around Brighton. As well as being filthy, over-styled, STI-carrying chancers, students are also stereotypically scrounging misers, so looking for the cheapest places to grab a pint is often crucial. The Font, an old church nestled in the Lanes, regularly features drinks deals, with pints as low as £1.25 and cocktails at £2.50 on certain nights (cocktails night is Thursday) and is a rather pleasant venue, if not particularly interesting. On West Street we have the usual suspects: Wetherspoons, Walkabout & Yates’s, which although are all cheap should be avoided at all costs, as the clientele and atmosphere are just... shit. Another pair of unglamorous but cheap venues are King & Queen on Grand Parade and Belushi’s, located on the seafront not far from the Pier. These two always have some dirt-cheap drinks deals and are otherwise decent enough places to spend an evening. Finally, the Royal Pavilion Tavern (or Pav Tav) is also in the upper echelon of inexpensiveness, with a slightly-below-average price list and a likeably shabby venue. NICE PLACES For those with a means-adjusted loan or some of Daddy’s money to spunk on pointless fluid gluttony can head on down to Riki Tik’s in the North Laine for some light-hearted pre-club drinks, which are reasonably priced. Another nice place to spend a night is Northern Lights next to the Town Hall, a Scandinavian-themed bar, which is a lovely pub with a great atmosphere and good drinks menu. Finally, one of Brighton’s best-kept secrets (worst now that it’s printed in a magazine) can be found on Western Road, at a pub called The Bee’s Mouth. This pokey little pub has an awesome range of beverages and is a killer place to enjoy any evening of the week, as

10

OCTOBER 2010 WWW.BN1MAGAZINE.CO.UK

the building is interestingly decorated and filled with quirky, friendly oddballs. NIGHTS OUT On the clubbing front, there are two main areas to frequent: West Street and the Seafront area. Avoid the former like the plague, especially on a Friday or Saturday, unless you’re looking for some hilarious night out where you are posing as the underclass ironically. Actually, the impressive Oceania can be good fun on the student night (Wednesday) and despite being a national chain, it is a spectacular venue. Aside from one or two one-off nights a year, it is advisable to ignore the charms of Tru, Oxygen, Heist, Pasha and Revolution. Similarly, on the seafront clubs like Honey Club and Funky Buddha Lounge can easily be avoided for

the entire year, but further west clubs like Coalition, Life and the superb Digital should all be looked into as viable destinations for a night out. All three clubs (especially Digital) are often packed and regularly have big-name acts performing, and all the usual frills like lasers and massive sound systems are as standard. Again, all three frequently run drinks promotions, so some light research could go a long way into reducing your party bill. At the other end of the beach, the urban club Volks provides something a little different, with some surprisingly big hip hop, dubstep and other acts appearing on the small club’s lineup from time to time. Similarly, the Ocean Rooms (off Grand Parade) has some epic nights, some ending as late as 10am. Another fairly standard but well-run club is Audio, a cheap-entry and busy bar/club just opposite the

pier. Audio isn’t anything special, but with little to complain about, good music and a sweet laser you will most likely find yourself there a number of times before the year is up. Finally, a BN1 all-time favourite, found at the end of Madeira Drive, is Concorde II. This awesome gig venue and club has the biggest musical names in Brighton (excluding the Dome & the Brighton Centre) and has hosted many a memorable night over the past few years. These last three all have arguably the top three sound systems in town. Other recommended pubs around town are The Druid’s Arms, The World’s End, The Fountain Head, The George, Thomas Kemp, The Mash Tun, Fitzherberts, The Lectern and The Prodigal, and good live music can be found at The Prince Albert, Komedia, The Corn Exchange, The Providence and The Hydrant. Offering seasonal foods with ingredients sourced from across the British Isles, Ha Ha Bar’s sizzling open grill prepares all your favourites in mixed grills

including steak, chicken, salmon, lamb and classic British beef burgers. However, expect to pay over £10 for a dinner dish of these sorts. Lunch, on the other hand, starts from £6 with a selection of tasty bites such as a grilled halloumi and roasted vegetable wrap or a 4oz British rump steak sandwich. Hungry yet? An extensive starter menu also invites indulgence with choices of hot grilled king prawns, mushroom bruschetta or simply a soup of the day. Surprisingly, Ha Ha’s listed favourites include their sausage and mash, haddock fish fingers and chicken kievs, so don’t be put off by the fanciness so far. An impressive drinks menu offers a selection of wines, spirits, bottled beers, ales, ciders and smoothies, and includes happy hour £3 cocktails everyday between 5-8. Naturally, many prices differ from those cheaper Brighton boozers around, but that’s to be expected from a trendy lounge bar overlooking the Pavilion Gardens. By Deborah Fairfield

HEADING

BRIGHTON COMEDY FESTIVAL There are a number of delights of living in Brighton – the sea, the European cafe culture, the thriving gay community, BN1 Magazine, not being in London being amongst the forerunners. A very welcome addition to this list though is the annual Brighton Comedy Festival. ALTHOUGH A RELATIVE NEWCOMER TO THE CIRCUIT, the festival has fast become one of the most popular and well thought of events, which attracts the very best comedy this country has to offer. And let’s be honest here, we do comedy a LOT better than anyone else...... So, enough of the self congratulatory waffle, what do we have in store for this year? Well, a veritable feast that’s going to be a struggle to condense into 300 odd words, so we’ll just try and pick out a few of our favourites for you..... Comedy Festival Gala: October 8th Okay, so it’s a hefty £30 a ticket, but proceeds are going to the worthy Sussex Beacon charity and for that you get Michael McIntyre, Alan Carr, Adam Hills, Andi Osho, Simon Evans and Phil Nichol plus more guests to be confirmed. That’s superstar-tastic, so what are you waiting for? Frankie Boyle – I Would Happily Punch Every One Of You In The Face: October 11/12th Everyone’s favourite angry Scot returns with his charmingly titled new show. You know what to expect – buckets of vitriol, a high curse-count and intermittent filth. Perfect night out. Stewart Francis – Tour De Francis: October 15th We love Stewart Francis here at BN1 and we’re not alone. A genuinely sharp creator of classic one liner comedy and observational genius, his humour is

18

OCTOBER 2010 WWW.BN1MAGAZINE.CO.UK

timeless and this is surely one of the shows not to miss. Rich Hall: October 15th Look how we look after you here. If you’re at the Corn Exchange having seen Stewart Francis at 19:30, why not stay on, put a beach towel on your seat and watch the hilarious Rich Hall straight afterwards. I mean, can your humour cup take much more before overflowing? Can it? Challenge yourself...... Frisky & Mannish: The College Years – October 22nd Still criminally underrated (all the better for the connoisseurs), Frisky & Mannish bring their particular, peculiar and brilliant mix of music and comedy once more to the festival. If you’re sitting there thinking “who?”, you should lash yourself forty times with a birch branch and get on the phone to book tickets. Now. Utterly brilliant. Now listen here Brightonites. That’s just a brief brushstroke on a comedy canvas you’d be mad to miss. I mean we haven’t even mentioned Jimmy Carr, Jerry Sadowitz, Sean Lock, Alex Zane, Jack Whitehall et al. I mean it costs money this printing lark you know. Suffice to say that there’s a plethora of fantastic laughs awaiting you in October, so get involved. You know you want to. By Andy Hollis

BRIGHTON COMEDY FESTIVAL

We caught up with Brighton’s Krater Comedy Club resident, Stephen Grant, most famous for his quickwitted quips and heckler put-downs, to unearth more about his new one-man show ‘Facepalm’ which can be seen at the Brighton Comedy Festival during October. Hoorah!

When did it first dawn on you that you wanted to be a Compere and Stand-Up Comedian? I saw a TV show in the late 90’s showing new stand up comedians and I thought, “I’ve got to be able to do better than that”. So I went to a local open-mic night at the Good Companions in Dyke Road, and after an hour I thought, “I KNOW I’ll be better than that!”. I wasn’t at first though – and that was when I was hooked. What do you think you’d be doing for a job if you weren’t successful in the comedy world? I could possibly still be doing my old job doing IT based stuff (programming and project managing) but I’d like to think I’d be running a company. Probably something on the internet; selling bespoke tea, or something similar. How are you feeling about being part of Brighton Comedy Festival 2010? It’s odd – the Brighton comedy festival is a recent addition to Brighton’s festival circuit (the main festival, the fringe, the film festival, food and drink festival, etc) but it’s clearly one of the best organised, so I’m proud to be asked. It’s not an automatic selection so you really do have to make sure you’re worthy of them. Your Face Palm show received some excellent reviews during The Fringe Festival. What’s it all about, and can we expect a slightly different show this time around? Yeah – it’s got a darker, and strangely, a much happier side. It’s about how people are more socially disconnected these days, and there’s a section about my divorce and how everything fell apart – with some pretty colourful tales of my ex-wife’s quite incredible

exploits – but it does snowball into a celebration of positivity. So don’t think it’s just me having a bitch; quite the opposite. It’s the first time I’ve done a oneman show in over 11 years where EVERY review has been 5 star – so I guess that must mean it’s my best show. Very proud of that. Where was the worst gig you’ve ever done, and what happened? Sigh. Do Jockeys ever get asked about when they fell off, or are Pornstars quizzed about their inability to get it up? Well… I guess it would have been a warmup I was booked for. The BBC was told it was a light hearted topical panel show and so therefore needed a comedian to do the warmup. Turns out it was actually a serious head-to-head dealing with the blight of disabled people in 21st century Britain. Time for jokes? No. What do you like about living in Brighton? Everything?! The people, the shops (mostly individual, very little clone Britain here), the diversity, the progressiveness, the thriving gay community and the multitude of mental people you can watch by just sitting in a café on James St. By Beki Turner

LORD OF THE MINCE BN1 CATCHES UP WITH JULIAN CLARY By Andy Hollis

WITH THE HIGH-JINKS and japes of the Brighton Comedy Festival about to hit our shores, BN1 decided that we should have a chat with someone straight laced and serious to give us some in depth considered thought about the month ahead. Unfortunately we couldn’t get hold of anyone, so we were lucky enough to have a chat with Julian Clary about erections, Stephen Fry, Neighbours and the pope’s shoes instead..... Hi Julian, thanks for taking the time to speak to your adoring audience today. You’re bringing your show Lord of the Mince to the Brighton Comedy Festival. Is there a better place to mince than Brighton? Well I just keep coming back there – I guess it’s the natural home for the show. You certainly know what you like in Brighton. Do you have any publishable memories of Brighton? Well I just really like it there. It’s like the real world, but not

20

OCTOBER 2010 WWW.BN1MAGAZINE.CO.UK

BRIGHTON COMEDY FESTIVAL

quite. It’s a jolly place with a real appreciation of camp. So, Julian Peter McDonald Clary, recently turned 51 and something of a national treasure these days. How do you see yourself? Well I don’t know. Stephen Fry is a national treasure, but I’m not sure about me. I think I’m more of a national trinket really. I’ve cornered the market at the more trivial end of things. I’m really just a camp comic and renowned homosexual. You were raised as a Catholic and went to a Roman Catholic school. Did you enjoy the recent papal visit? Oh well I LOVED his red shoes. I almost forgave him for everything else to be honest, just for the shoes. It’s a very odd thing being a Catholic. I was very cynical when he first came over, but I watched the mass in Birmingham and once I got used to the ‘Allo ‘Allo accent I thought he came across as a very holy man. I’m glad he didn’t get arrested and no one threw anything at him. I felt very nervous the whole time he was here so I’m glad he’s gone. It’s a bit like watching a Susan Boyle interview, you can’t wait for it to finish because you’re watching in a state of anxiety. Exactly! People were genuinely excited to see him though, and he did give a proper apology, so yes, he can come back. You nominated your left side for Room 101. What’s the dark secret of the left side? Well it’s just not as perky as the right side. I used to make them move cameras around and everything, but I don’t really care anymore. You’ve had an incredibly rich and varied career, from alternative comedy through to novels, theatre and the big screen. What would you say your highlight has

been so far? Oh there have been lots. Performing at the London Palladium, being a finalist on Strictly Come Dancing. Having a novel published. You know to still just be here is a thrill. I’m aware of the triviality of my subject matter and it is really light entertainment, so to sustain it for so long and to still be doing gigs that people buy tickets too is wonderful. Not your appearance on Neighbours then? No, definitely not Neighbours! Is there anything you regret? No not at all. People talk about the “fisting Norman Lamont” joke, but it’s a great joke. No, I’m still here so..... You’re a great dog fan – from Fanny the Wonder Dog through to Valerie. I understand there’s a new addition too? Yes, Albert. He’s sitting on my lap as we speak. In fact, you’ll be delighted to know that he’s currently sporting a huge erection. Nice to know you haven’t lost your touch..... Oh I think it’s just his age really!

“It’s like the real world, but not quite. It’s a jolly place with a real appreciation of camp.” Being an animal fan, do you think there’s a suitable punishment for people that put cats in wheelie bins? Should we lock them up in a bin for a day? Oh I think that would be a bit medieval to do that, but perhaps I’m growing soft in my old age. She’s been taken to court, so that’s okay, but I just wonder if she’s being doing it for years, it’s not something you just do on the spur of the moment is it? It’s a bit like being a flasher. I just can’t think why she did it. I guess community service and a fine will be okay.

Tell us a bit about Lord of the Mince – what should we expect? Well it’s always evolving and changing on a whim. It’s really just me talking about turning 50, the achievements and mistakes. I sing a few songs and reveal a surprise gift. It’s the second incarnation of the show isn’t it? The third actually. I just enjoy it so much. I always get to the end and want to do more. Brighton’s the only place we always go back to though. Do you still get stage fright? No, not lately I haven’t. We spoke to Mike McShane from Paul Merton’s Improvisation Chums recently. Are you still close to Paul? Yes we still see each other and speak. On the edit of the DVD there are still a few lines that Paul is responsible for. So you’re living out in the country with the dogs and the chickens. Has life been good to Julian Clary? Yes, I’m going through my rustic period ! I think so, yes. I find it remarkable that I can be out here living in the country, sustaining myself just by telling jokes about buggery and oral. Are you slowing down? Well I’m just finishing my next novel and them I’m on to panto with Joan Collins in Birmingham. I’m giving them my Dick... Dick Whittington. I still enjoy it and it doesn’t feel like work. So I’ll just keep on going whilst I can! Well thanks for that Julian – can’t wait to catch the show and best of luck with the tour!
