"BEHIND THE SCENES"

DIRECTOR'S NOTE Dear BJ Theater Company Families and Friends, I can’t help but think back to where we were last year as I wrote this note. It was early March of 2020, and the title You Can’t Stop The Spiel was accidentally quite prescient! The opening night of last year’s Spiel became the closing night of life as we knew it. For me, and for so many of you and your children, the Spiel—in all its glittery, hilarious glory—was our last pre-pandemic BJ inperson experience. For me, the Spiel always represents resiliency, ingenuity, and the ability to turn our world back right-side up. Those principles feel more appropriate now than perhaps ever before, as, even in an upside-down world, our cast came together in a new way to celebrate Purim with abounding joy, punny humor, and lots of fun! Rehearsals and the recording process have been a bright spot, and this cast is made up of some of the most amazing, energetic, collaborative kids and teens I’ve ever met. I am so excited for you to get to watch their performances and to see the heart that they have poured into the process. “Thank you” is too small a phrase to adequately express my appreciation for Robert Frost, Dani Apple, and Mike Drucker. Robert, Dani, and Mike are skilled professionals with busy careers who so graciously give their time and talents to this show and to our kids and teens. Without them, it would not have been possible. Parents and families: thank you for your patience and support, for serving as tech support and occasionally, our film crew, and for sharing your wonderful kids with us. We are so proud of them and can’t wait for you to see them shine. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our first-ever Purim Spiel movie, Emma
